First of all that girl is hot. I can understand why some Chinese ppl seem upset by this commercial bc it plays on a certain stereotypical view that we might have of China, but it's pretty creative none the less. I appreciate it for what it is.

Having worked in China for eight years (leaving last year), I know exactly what you mean, and you're right to say it's nothing like this. However, I think you're missing the point of the advert: it's set during the Cultural Revolution, where everyone was supposed to act, think, talk and LOOK the same, as you can see by their clothes and hairstyles. At the end, we see/hear the slogan, 'Break the mould' [by using VO5 styling mousse]. Instead of looking the same as everyone else

This ad was shot in Buenos Aires...I was one of the extras..it took 3 intensive days to make this 30 seconds ad....it was so fun! the guy is taiwanese and the girl is korean...

This ad was shot in Buenos Aries, to make it look like China or Korea or some country with a vague communist overtone.

It was mean to be non specific, but the teacher had to say something so it was in Chinese.

Sorry to burst your bubble of knowledge, but it is set in China. Three reasons why I know this: a) the written/spoken language we can see/hear is Chinese; b) it is representative of the days of the Cultural Revolution, 1966-76, under Chairman Mao; and c) my girlfriend is Chinese (and China is where we are now), so she knows exactly what this film is about and where it is set.
