Is it impossible to watch a video on youtube now without fanboys having a catfight on overy comment mindlessly believing that their opinion is the only valid one, well shut the hell up some of us want to watch our favourite clips comedy or otherwise without people spewing out their often racist views whether they be fair or unfair. So shut up and just watch the clips. Thanks just had to get that off my chest, ricky gervais, stephen merchant and all the office cast and crew you are geniuses.
First you said he didn't dislike the american version, now you are saying he did? can you make up your mind before you post please. I'm pretty sure I made my comment, over 8 months ago, before this whole thumbs up business on youtube started, previously there was no thumbs up, so it has nothing to do with 47 people agreeing with him, and if your the kind of person who only feels their opinion is validated when others agree with them I feel sorry for you. I never said he doesnt have the right.
Gervais got the idea for this show from the movie Spinal Tap which is an American movie made by Christopher Guest and all his comedy inspirations are American. So to the Brits that think this is so much funnier than the American version just remember where it came from. You'd figure there would be one thing that England does better... I guess not. Keep hating on the US while copying everything we do. How dare Brits do anything but bow to the US. Your lives would be so dull without us.
@bigsleep32 How can you say Brits copy everything you do when you have took a british show, not even changed the name and recycled it as something worse?
@stuv1- Add to your list - Michael Scott gets away with murder- including sleeping with his boss, making the big sale, etc. That never happens in real life- David Brent is more real- he never gets his way, it seems.....
I just watched Ricky on Conan O'brien here in the U.S. and that guy is fuckin amazing... trust me British people we will steal this brilliant man from you with no apologies ..... I will purchase the u.k. office only because of this man...
I think the things wrong with the US version of the office:
The equivalent of Tim is too conventionally good looking.
The equivalent of Gareth is too caricatured.
The idea of the documentary has dispersed. The cinematography hardly represents a documentary now and because of the lack of realism it was hardly there in the first place.
The only good thing is steve carrel. But his version of the dance is shit.
@stuv1 Dude your not meant to compare the two, they are seperate programs with separate styles. Next you'll be comparing Harry Potter the film with the books. The American office is stylistically different, its meant to be more sitcom rather then fly on the wall. The british office was always about cringe humour and awkwardness. I watch both and love both, IT IS POSSIBLE to have the opinion that both are good. Just because you like one doesnt menat you have to hate the other.
@Haseebv I agree. I like the U.S. version a little bit more cause that's the type of humor I know best but I still found this really funny. So ya just cause you like one doesn't mean you should hate the other. I think it's just that we have different senses of humor but there's no call for hate or rudeness.
-IT IS POSSIBLE to have the opinion that one is better than the other
- he wasn't just trashing the American version, he was making a thoughtful critique of it based on his observation and opinion, which is a more productive use of the comment section than begrudging someone their right to voice their opinion in the first place.
-just look at all the ignorant jingoist comments from our stupid countrymen "defending emuricahs honor" over a tv show.
@DISSODANTS dude didnt you see his comment ''The only good thing is steve carrel'' implying that the rest of the american show isnt good, indicating that he didnt like it. just use common sense and logic and you'll find the answer. By saying the only good thing is steve carrel he is implying that the american show isnt any good. And his critique was wrong anyway, the american show is meant to be a sitcom style programme, the documentary aspect is not a big highlighted thing like in the UK show
so by your hyper deductive reasoning I'm to believe that you're telling me that I have no "common sense and logic". give me a break, the guy doesn't like the American version and explained why I happen to agree with him; it only stands to reason you would compare the two: It's the same show done 2 different ways. the only reason you felt the need to defend the show was because 47 people opted to agree with him. YOUR logic is that he doesn't have the right to compare the shows, which is a joke.

@DISSODANTS I said he shouldn't compare to two directly, its not intelligent, and it makes him look thick. To say this jim is better looking then tim is pretty irrelevant, I love the UK series, but I don't think people HAVE to pick the US or the UK, you can like both. You can like one more then the other, but to completely trash one version is pathetic. Also theres no way you can compare the two because one lasted for 12 episodes, the other is on season 7, like 20 episodes a season after season1
@DISSODANTS well done for agreeing with him, but i dont think his reasons are justifiable or even remotely true, they seem a bit petty, and very very biased.
wow you managed to turn a simple disagreement over the merits of a TV series into a character asasination. his opinion or even the existance thereof is "not intelligent...makes him look thick..petty" I see nothing in his comments that attempts to begrudge anyone else's their opinion, however that's the entire nature of your argument and since you make it personal; the tone of your post is pretentious and haughty and your are completely unaware of how ironic the point you are TRYING to make is
@stuv1 your such a eurocentric dork. British comedy and American comedy are completely different styles. And also, why is it that the American version of the Office is going on its 7th season when this one experienced what? 3 at most? Not taking anything away from Ricky Gervais, the guys a genius. But let comedy be comedy and have a good time instead of critiquing everything.
@floggingmollyfan4 The Office UK ran for two seasons and a christmas special and was intelligantly stopped by Gervais before it descended from greatness and started to become worse than it ever was previously. The Office US is in it's seventh season as US TV executives commission things that get viewers and The Office US gets viewers. Gervais isn't part fot he content of this show so doesn't mind it going on as he just gets money, so its left for it to go on for ages before it withers and dies.
@stuv1 intelligently*. I find it funny how you say how smart the British version is yet fail to even use proper grammar. But I will agree, once Steve Carrell leaves I'll probably stop watching it.
@floggingmollyfan4 LOL YEAH THAT IS FUNNY. Although...I did say the British version is intelligent and not ME, as i have nothing to do with the creation or devising of either show. If i did, your observation would be all the more hilarious.
