Very powerful piece. I'm a huge fan of Aston Martin. What this bit says can be applied to a lot of performance cars out there, whether it be a muscle car, street rally car, or supercar as well as others. Indeed I think the biggest threat to gearheads and these passionate cars is our finite resources. If we had a resource that wasn't as scarce or renewable (and realistically use for the average joe) then I think we wouldn't have to worry as much. Of course progress is good too.
This is so different than classic Top Gear, but in many ways it's exactly the same. There's a message beneath the profoundly excellent cinematography, the music. Top Gear could be "just a car show", but then it wouldn't be Top Gear. The V12 Vanquish could be just a car, but then it wouldn't be an Aston Martin. There will always be something that drives humans to do things like this, hard things, for the sake of the challenge. For the sake of excellence. To see if it can be done.
At the very least, it is the end of the American Muscle car era, for now, untill the economy shapes up and GM stops begging for bailouts. But then again I am pretty sure no one reall cares about American "Super Cars" so as long as Europe keeps making them everything will work out guys.
This was the weidrest, most somber, most melincoly [sic], and depressing top gear segment ever. It was almost weird. Clarkson said only a few sentences and there was no power sliding. And I don't think it is true what he was saying. Cars like the Tesla prove that you can have a fast car that doesnt use any gas.
You hit the nail on the head with the first part, this was so fucking different and profound and depressing however you completely misunderstood the Tesla. It is a fucking piece of shit and is unreliable. It is in no way shape or form a "fast" car. Runs out of juice after 50 miles and takes all night to be charged and is barely any more economical and enviornmentally friendly then gasoline powered engines. The Tesla was a joke but this ending really made me sad, God damn Jeremey is actually deep
Just watched this segment again, and once again, it brought a tear to my eye. Deep down, I believe the halo car will survive, in some form, for those who can afford it, but you can't help but wonder...
I'm sure they're there for a cooling reason rather than outright aesthetics. Aston don't go adding on bits just because. If it ruins the car they've no doubt thought of ways around it. Most V12's will have a lot more cooling available than that. It's a cheap and easy way to add some to a standard car.
I know this sounds lame, but this video brought a tear to my eye, especially with the music. Jezza has a point. This is an ending. I sure hope he WRONG!

This was the saddest bit of TopGear I've ever seen. My first impression was that this is the end of TopGear.

I hope that Cgynet rubbish is not going to be the future for Aston.

What's the music backing this clip? Anyone know? Thanks in advance.
This...the end of an era...is such a poignant moment...thinking about it, watching this clip, truly moved me.

The hood louvers are hideous, they have to go.
I wonder if there is a delete option?
This was beautifully done though, very serene.
And as long as there is money in the world and car guys, cars like these will always live on.

Not if people want a car that doesn't overheat.

I felt exactly the same way. It feels like the end of an era, as Jeremy summed up perfectly, but God I hope it's not!

WTF - horrible episode, probably the worst.
He didn't really mention the car - this video is more like just a scenic video.
