@muh1h1 libimobiledevice is a great thing, however sometimes it's not enough.

For my 4th generation iPod touch, I had to update the library from 1.0.4 to 1.1.1, jailbreak, and change the dbversion from 5 to 4.

Before that, it still shows up as a filesystem and on Banshee and Rhythmbox, but it wouldn't sync. Just saying, even though it supports iPhones out of the box, it doesn't always work.

Will this work on Ubuntu 11.04? Or other debian/GNU based distros? Im using natty right now for day to day use but im always trying new distros out. If I can get it to work in 11.04 I'd be happy though. Oh, and im jailbroken too, but I think safe mode fools most things like this

What about a jailbroken iPod touch 4? It doesn't even recognize that it is even a camera, is anybody else having that problem with the jailbroken iPod touches?

Nahh it doesn't work with ubuntu 10.10...

Tested with live cd and after with the installed ubuntu "out of the box", then a 3rd time again AFTER updating.

The only thing that happens is a connection sound in the ipod, not more.

Maybe this works, but not "out of the box", neither integrated in ubuntu.

Oh yeah, i forgot one thing: unbuntu ALREADY comes with libimobiledevice and fuse, but no, even after reinstalling and installing more packages, doesn't work, i will try to remove them, compile and manually install them...

i put music on ipad from ubuntu but it does not recognize or show the music on ipod. I mean even if you upload it, the music player on ipad does not care if you've done so. You have to connect it to itunes. Is there a solution for this? Can you make the device recognize the music you put in?

Try to upgrade the fimware with the command prompt of you´re linux distribution, but put at the end programerversion abd try to see if you can upgrade with this.

Then, you will become and apple programer beacause you will have the kernel mode oprion form programing, and the test mode, where you can try the BETA programs tha aren´t released.

@noonerofl Oh what I meant is that I can pull music off and play music directly from the iPhone; I haven't tried to sync. I sync my iPhone with iTunes on a Windows machine which is sitting right next to my Linux one.

@ALetification Well at the beginning of the Video, you see how the File Browser pops up and you see some folders, just try to put a Video eg in the Folder Podcasts or so , just try it :;) But you have to convert your video to a mp4 Format for your Iphone

So Just Install in Ubuntu all Codecs(Gstreamer,ffmpeg), then Google "Mobile Media Converter), the first thing is right. Its a Converter, even for Ubuntu. You install it with a Double Klick, just download the ubuntu version :) :)

Can you help me with this? I'm new to ubuntu and I probably didn't install this right. I downloaded the tar.bz2 file from the site, extracted it, and navigated to the folder and typed ./configure. Is this right? When I am in the terminal with my ipod touch plugged in, i type ideviceinfo and text shows up, but when I type ideviceinstall -l, It says ideviceinstaller isn't a command.

when I plug it into my laptop it does not mount

when I browse the computer I see a generic usb device but I can't access it

@sacredpotato I use 3.1.3 on my ipod touch 2g. I think you might have to try opening it in itunes first. also try shutting of auto sync features then try again in linux. Also make sure it is done in Windows and not macintosh. later on. and hope that helps

Did I see some Antestor on your iphone? Unblack metal ftw. I haven't used Ubuntu since 9.04. I have DSL on Virtualbox for school, and I installed OpenSuse so I could try out KDE, but haven't really used it. I've just been using Windows 7 lately since I mainly use my computer for school and games, and while there IS Wine, Linux just can't replace Windows as far as gaming is concerned. Class gets out in three weeks though, leaving me with a lot of time for messing around with Linux again. :)
