It's not that hard to draw that lightning symbol. The game recognizes it just fine. I do it all the time because I think it looks awesome. All you need to do is to draw it straight and fast.

Chuggaa's sort of wrong. You want to use sharp angles, not curves when making a Lightning Bolt. However, as he states, using the Z button is not a good idea, as it does not allow you to turn your brush easily.
