  • show this to the people that say percherons cant run. i used to say that until i got my percheron. he's faster then the qh i used to ride<3

  • Beautiful horse, although that was a canter, but he is just amazing

  • That was so not a gallop

  • @herh14 for a percheron it is

  • love the horse, HATE his tail, sorry XD im a big tail person hahah, but he is gorgeouss

  • Omg that's s cool! I really want a draft horse, I just love everything about them :)

    Btw your horse is gorgeous!

  • wht the hell did you do to the tail??????????

  • That looka amazing! I would love to ride that horse :)) And that's a canter I think, I can see tha dagonal pairs on legs going and the 3 beats. But nice riding!

  • I do this with my Percheron sometimes ^^ He's 21, but acts 5 haha... I only rode ponies before him, but big horses are amazing!

  • Yeah it's kinda scary when you are a 5'4" 120lbs girl on a 2 1/2 ton 19 hand Belgian. I was told he would only grow to be about 16 hands. But I love him soo much and he is really good. But I wonder what happens if one day he decideds he's had enough.

  • damn, ive never ridden a draft but having that much power under u wud be a bunch of fun!! getting on and off wud be a bitch tho

  • I LOVE draft horses. My Percheron has bad arthritis, however. I can only do walk/trot and a light canter.

I'm dying to get a Shire or a Freisian. :)

  • I have a quarter horse/ percheron cross. A gentle giant he is. Had him 18 years now, and he is 31. they are magnificent animals!

  • great vidio but its a little long winded at the begining : )

  • Oh I think it adds suspense! LOL

  • Sorry I missed getting your opinion on saddles for drafts (???)I ended up getting advice on saddles from someone else w/videos on here training a Percheron. They had Wintec Wide A/P (easychange gullets & CAIR panels) but said it sits like a postage stamp on him (lol) so they changed to Wintec Isabell (deeper, grippy seat is more secure, and longer flaps)..I'll prolly go w/the Isabell, too-just hope the panels are set wider apart to best fit wide-backed horses. You never did mention what you use?

  • Hi! I do use a Wintec Endurance wide (the white metal insert) on him. Super comfortable and grippy. I think any saddle on a big draft will look like a postage stamp! :o) I have thought about the Isabell as well. Working with someone who know more than I about a dressage saddle fit right now, so it will be interesting to see what she has to say. Let me know what you get.

  • Aw when he gallops past its just amazing to see his size, and the size of his huge strides!

He looks very beautiful. Its amazing how much power they have. My horse is quite narrow but faily tall, I imagine it would be a completely different experience galloping a draft!

  • Hi! Thanks, he's a good horse. I've had him since a babe, and his training has been slow but sure. Just now he is getting so he canters right out of a trot. It can be a little intimidating galloping 6 feet up in the air! I've ridden with a girl who had a hand TB, but he dwarfed that skinny horse! He may be big, but he really is agile when he wants to be. He is so wide, so it is hard to get a good grip around him. Good saddle and full seat breeches help a lot!

  • How old is he?

lol, yes! you'd need all the grip you can get to stay on! I rode one of my friends horses, who was over 17 hands, and just that difference felt really wide! when i dismounted I felt like my leg muscles had been stretched

  • Hi Again, He will be 9 June 1. If I haven't ridden him for awhile, I am really sore the next day. I'f like to try him western, but I did that once and when I got off, my shirt got stuck on the horn, I was pinned up against him and good thing he didn't run away because I was in a pickle. My husband rode him once and said it was like riding an oil tanker truck. Haha, but so true! Good for the inner thighs though...:o)

  • I've heard that saddle cushions help too.

  • I've heard that saddle cushions help too.

  • Sorry. Youtube screwed up the placement of my reply and doubled it. I meant that the saddle seat cushions can help with gripping. Or at least that's what I've heard.

  • Beautifull just beautifull. I too have a Percheron stalion and a mare and in a few months a baby. They are gracefull annimals. Mare doesn't like to run either but the stalion is a different story. He loves to run and when u r sitting on 18.1 hh horse at full gallop it is the best feeling in the world.

  • Hi Thanks! I love him to bits. He's a doll. Full of himself sometimes, but as he matures,he'll be 9 this June, really love his features. Hope to have more video soon. I have a haffie mare I'd like to breed with a clyde/hackney cross-wouldn't that be snappy!

  • Nice lookin' boy. I'd like your opinion on saddles. I got a 2-yr-old Perch. gelding standing at 18hh already...and getting wider now. I've heard treeless is the way to go, but not sure (never had one myself as of yet)...what do you use, what msmts. if not treeless? I'm open to any/all advice here!! thanks.

  • nice horse I work with Draft crosses and my personal Paint right now. I hope to get a pure bred Draft in a few years after retiring my paint. When you get going on drafts it feels like they could rock you right out of your seat. But it is really fun to be up that high going really fast.

  • Hi! Thanks for the comment, yes when he gets going (it's getting him to get going sometimes is the problem) it is exhilerating! The power, the sound, the ground shaking...one ton animal moves and shakes! The purebred is nice, but the crosses really look sharp too, and are more flexible in their uses. He can move, but I do think I am limited with his use. I'm just having fun, so that is all that is important to me.

  • I love how much ground they cover so effortlessly. Claudia in Chattanooga (percheron rider). He's so relaxed.

  • Hi Claudia! Yes, he does cover a lot of ground...getting him to cover it when I want to is the challenge! The big horses are fun to ride, he is so different from the haflinger. Thanks for your comment! Do you ride English or Western?
