Unions! The system is broken! Unions=sanctioned extortion. We cannot trust big businesses to provide a safe work environment and fair pay, so the union comes in to negotiate a contract BUT have your civil rights violated at work and the union is no where. AFA did not provide legal counsel to protect my rights after I was violated by a pilot & NW even though a court decision would have protected ALL flight attendants in the U.S. Something is terribly wrong! Pay dues to keep your job--that's it!
Delta FAs have spoken. AFA back off! Unions reward inefficiency, protect the incompetent and destroy industry. Anyone who has flown UAL or NW knows how bad unions are
Even if the NMB changes the voting rules, theres a majority of Delta and NWA employees who dislike the unions. The IAM and AFA will be in for a real shock when voting does take place.
I've done the reasearch and not just listened to the afa whisperers. I know what the "concept" is, but the reality is quite different.
Get the LM-2 report at the Dept of Labor site and you'll see the truth. Or visit fainformationdotcom to see some of the crazy salaries NWA AFA people collected last year.
The $57.60 in daily per diem is also well documented and higher than afa's negotiated for ANY airline it "represents".
Anyone who was flying with Delta on 9-11 knows how great they were to all of us. Prior to Delta, I worked for an airline that had AFA and there is no comparision. NO UNION for me! I'll take Delta treating us like individuals instead of AFA that takes your money and you become just a number to them! LOVE MY DELTA!!!!!
I'm not sure what 9-11 has to do with collective bargaining -- I would expect nothing less from any airline during such a tragic event. We -- the flight attendants of Delta -- will collectively make up Delta-AFA and negotiate with management, just like our pilot colleagues. I love my job and look forward to securing a world-class contract, rightfully deserved.
Realizing our No Way Pals and the JoseNoFriendofMine crowd are now, the shrinking minority at NWA I rest somewhat easier at night. Education has been key in breaking the back of ignorance, and fear.
Ironically the very same people who attempted to thwart our unions effort to distribute our lump sum payments are very people who are trying to help management derail our union vote.
The good news is over 96% of NWA flight attendants are supporting a union contract. Our pilots have a contact and our ramp staff will have a contract.
Why would any of us wish to be left naked on the field? To not have a contact would leave us vulnerable to the whims and good Ideas and the best intentions of our new / old management team.
Do you trust Richard Anderson? Is he looking out for our collective best interests? Look at Delta retirement benefits (offset anyone), health insurance (UHC is not equivalent to the universally accepted BCBS) and work rules (crew rest in any available seat - that could mean a middle seat by the bathroom between two passengers). Please think... the old "take care of our people" is no more. Executive corporate greed has arrived at Delta. Protect yourself. I am pro union AND pro Delta.
Things got better, DL FAs got a 3% raise (total of 10% in raises in 2.5 yrs), NWA FAs were mad they only got 1% well it was outlined in there concessionary contract, why should they get more, they negotiated that, they accepted cuts now they are locked into it. This is a joke, I would be surprised if 60% of NWA FA's even voted for the AFA at the combined DL
A Intl President who has not been a FA for at least 6+ months (req'd according to bylaws) American Eagle fought over 5 years for a sub par contract. The contract is not a guarantee the bankruptcy courts proved that when they terminated almost all of those peoples contracts at UAL, US Air, NWA, ect. Side letter agreements, concessionary agreements where are the guarantees?
Boredboy80, you really should get your facts straight. The bankruptcy judges didn't void all those contracts. Many of them were re-bargained concessionary contracts. Although they were not what everyone would have hoped for, they were re-bargained to be sure that we got the best we could while giving up enough to help rebuild our companies. Get your FACTS Straight before shooting off your mouth.
Bill McGlashen is a hypocrite there was no double in his salary. He is former America West they are still working under horrid work rules and pay. They are still battling to get a merged contract with US Air 4+ yrs later. He does not fly anymore, he is the Assistant to the International President of AFA so his pay and benefits are from them. The AFA MUST win at Delta or they will go out of business. Tens of millions wasted on 2 failed votes, raising dues when everyone was taking cuts.
do yourself a favor and educate yourself on how AFA officers are paid. You will find that most, especially on the MEC/LEC level are only paid for trips lost and most also fly a schedule on top of doing union work on YOUR behalf.
prounionafa: Name-calling - the last refuge of those who lack an intelligent argument to support their position. If this is the kind of behavior I can expect from the AFA people, you have given me even more reason to vote no. Like Barney Frank said to that ignorant protester at his meeting: "Talking to you would be like talking to a table."
That's exactly why I only wrote the one word "idiot" to you- because you obviously are that "table" and anything more would be a waste. p.s. wonder if this person says the same brainless thoughts to the pilots.
Wow! Is there anyone in this video who ISN'T on the AFA payroll? In the interest of transparency, they should flash the person's AFA position and salary on the screen. But that would be too honest.
Of course they want to keep their cushy jobs, but none of them mentions a single AFA accomplishment in the last 20 years.
Meanwhile, they're all collecting their padded salaries, PLUS $57.60 a day in per diem even when they sit at home. What AFA airline contract is that good? Huh, AFA?
It's great to see & hear the support from fellow FAs across the country. All of us working together allows us to have a voice on matters that concern our profession on Capitol Hill & the FAA. It will allow us to finally have a legal voice at the 'new' Delta regarding pay, work rules & benefits. The 'threat' of a union isn't enough anymore in our industry. This merger creates the largest FA group in the world. It's time for Delta & NWA FAs to unite for a secure future via representation!
It's interesting to hear many different flight attendants from different airlines express how important it is to work collectively. It's also compelling to see that most airlines are unionized. Why is Delta the only one not unionized? Perhaps being different doesn't translate into being special...it means being unprotected.

the union at NW wasn't the problem is was bad management! Inefficiency comes from poor management decisions and/or working with bad information.

Why do the pilots have a contract at Delta and not the f/a's? Seems to me that would be cause for concern?

I for one am uncomfortable with that fact which is why I will be voting for a union contract.
To those of you in the shrinking minority, do what you like as I have no desire to convert you or convince you of anything.
Having a union is just something this industry needs to govern the corporate raiders of this insane industry and keeps our workgroup safe from abuse.
