Why does the V6 engine sound better than the V8's? Or am I wrong? And what's up with all the discrimination on V6? Girl's car, my mom drives it, gay car, wtf? Does that suppose to make you tough? Have some respect, it's a car and is a good car, period. Just because there is a V8 and we have all this kids bashing the V6, what if there was no V8? Oh V6 whoaa badass whoaa fuck you all typical mentality people.
i'll admit my opinion on the v6 has changed with the 2011 v6, ford has really made it alot better but seeing a nice 5.0 cruisin down the freeway is what its all about
I have mad respect for what kind of power/torque/fuel efficiency these new age V6's are making...but a Mustang/Camaro/Challenger with a V6 just isn't a Mustang/Camaro/Challenger to me...if i bought the V6 variant, i'd feel a little embarassed every time a V8 of the same car pulled up next to me.
@TheRogueSS Having a 2011 v6 stang, that has never once happened to me. Never have I felt embarrassed about being behind the wheel of a 305 horsepower, 280 lb-ft mustang. When v8's or v6's come around in any make, ford, chevy, dodge, I turn my head and admire them. I admire them because I have respect for them. Once you honestly respect these cars, or even get a shot behind the wheel of a 300 horsepower car you won't have that problem of feeling embarrassed. Oh yeah, and my mustang is a mustang
@lolpranksta Because in this economy a v6 is a better idea. V8 is better yes, but for around 20 grand you can get a fast economical mustang that looks great. Ford: Winning!
What a turnabout. Now it's the V8 that makes less sense here. This car's good for 0-60 in 5.1, yet delivers great fuel economy and impressive handling/braking performance....and all at a very competitive price!
@KillaPillaP Yeah, it sucks because of all the import taxes and such. I have seen v6 ones here in the states that people have supercharged and twin turbocharged, disgustingly awesome. Nasty v6 car:)
@notecages25 what the hell is the point of supercharging or twin turbocharging a v6? After you buy the kit, maybe beef up the internals, and tune it to hell so its reliable is it any cheaper than a mustang gt? I'd reckon it could even get worse gas mileage and while Im sure many could build it up correctly I'd bet my next paycheck that it will not be as reliable as a 5.0L with the factory warranty. A loaded v6 costs more than the base v8. but if you've got the money and time to burn I guess..
@josh053 The GT also has an extra 100 horsepower to make up for the insignificant weight difference. Dont get me wrong this is a fine automobile and I was thinking about getting one as a DD instead of the civic si. But it is not better than the GT.
Haha what are the odds, I live ON that road, I'll tell you though, it was a pain in the ass going to school every morning, but seeing the view definitely made it worth it. There are loads of sport cars and bikers going up and down all day. :D
Also even in the ZR1 corvette and other high compression ratio cars high octane fuel isnt a requirement but recommended. Reason this is possible intodays cars is due to the KNOCK SENSOR. Any time a engine produce knock for one reason or another the engine retards the timen making is possible to run lower octane fuels. Now you dont get peak performance but you do get a kick ass ride with over 30 mpg potential. Now what isnt being done is advance Knock sensor programing to allow for more fuel.
If you are a die hard hot rod magazine reader through out the years there is always some guy claiming to get 30 mpg from a big block blown engine driver. See there is a conspiracy running through out the auto industry which also includes custom performance cars. In every thing that is done in engines compression ratios is never taken into account. Someone has gone out of there way to say you cant build 13 to one compression ratios daily drivers yet every sport bike runs 13 to one compression.
Ok the Corvette gets over 26 mpg and making 500 hp and won 8 24 hrs of lemans with push rods. Also GM is the only company in the world to build two exact motors with one being in over head cam and one being push rod. Note not only is push rods more efficent and make more hp but also get better mpg. Someone at ford is Spear heading the over head cam production and is no based in facts kinda like politicains and police officers.(Lets drive past the crack house and go write traffic tickets)
As much as I hate to say this... This car is the end of V8 muscle cars. 305 hp 31mpg 5.1 to 60 and a 13.7@102 stock WOW!! There is already a procharger kit 472 rwhp @ 8psi on stock exhaust and internals. Within 5 years a GT will be this in Eco Boost form and twin turbo'd. And it doesnt sound like a Z they sound like Chewbaca. Listen to one with muffler delete you can hear some mustang in there.
I read somewhere that these guys are gonna be in the car show with Adam corolla? Is it true can someone clear this up because I want to watch it but if these are in it I will.
im 17 good looking and best of all white and i get this car tomorrow i cant wait i wonder what color i should gwt cant wait to pull up in school with thia bad boy
So this is the situation: I am at the red light in 2011 V6 Mustang and a GT pulls up; there is a fifty percent chance that it is either a 2010 305 hp GT or a 2011 410 hp GT; should I race it?

@mferguson1281 negative sir, apparently you have never been to a track a day in your life to know that factory track numbers are hardly ever whats consistently ran by most people.
Only thing Ford should do now is ditch the lame over head cam designes and go back to the push rod engines so you can make 35 mpg instead of lame 31 mpg . Over head cams have higher parastic drag than push rod engines due to six foot long timen chaines. This is proven by GM Research and published. Note they are the only company to have actually built two exact motors one in over head cam and one in push rod form. Push rods engines make more hp and are more balanced motors with less parastic drag
As the price of gas goes HIGHER THE FASTER CARS WILL BECOME FACT. What saves on gas is also what makes killer HORSE POWER. Problem with High efficent High MPG engines is we drive more and drive HARDER. Wait till the electric cars come out and just waite till the HOT ROD community starts to crack electric motors open. It will get really bad ass then. Average street car in the futur will be a 12 sec car. I got a new book called NARC PROGRAM that talks about this subject.
@Thelongmanable Fact, High power and gas mileage comes at a price. You haven't taken into account really any outside variables in this. The state of the economy or if new laws and regulations are passed. Those could seriously drop off power ratings to make things possible or affordable. Also, about your future comment... they said by this time we would have flying cars. Also, by street car do you mean sedan or sports car? most people have problems controlling the 12 sec cars now.. lord help us
I personally have noticed the sport bikes have been running 13 to one compression ratios all day long for last 10 years and note I run 87 octane with zip zero knock. More I build high compression engines I wonder if knock is a myth or that new ECM technology regulates knock alot better. Car technology hasnt increase rember we use to have 11 to 1 compression ratios back in the sixtys with the L88 corvette that did 11s in 1/4 all day long. Note best Bugattie, Lambo and Corvette today does high 11s
Take any for 3.8 liter engine ever made jack it to 10.5 to 1 compression ratio and you will get the same or better 31 mpg. Reason for this over head cams proven by GM with the first ZR1 that over head cams have higher parasitic drag than standerd in block motor cams. Now think they are running twin cams so your odds will be that you will make about 35 mph from a old school 3.8 if you jack the compression ratio to 10:5 to one compression ratio. Face you will make more hp due to less parasiticdrag
They can say all the crap that want about the Variable Cam timen but that didnt raise the MPG because its what they call a Physical Impossiblity. What they did was take a dorky engine at 8:0 to 1 compression ration and jack it to a 10.5 to one compression ratio. See last thing you want is more air and fuel into the engine that eats up fuel. What you want is MORE POWER FROM YOUR AIR FUEL RATIO AND you do that by Increasing Compression ratio nothing more nothing less.
Only thing ford did was raise the compression ratio up on the car nothing more nothing less. Gas is pushing 4 dollars a gallon people and note cars are getting faster not slower why is this? Simple there is only TWO ways to increase MPG a decrease the Air fuel ratio which does this makes more hp and the other was is to Increase compression ratio which get this Increases hp. HP or High performance engines are BI PRODUCT OF A EFFICENT ENGINE.
sounds good for he v6. But nothing can sound better than my 2010 gt500 :). Also yea i have been hearing about the trans problem. I have no idea why ford though china was a good place to make the trans.
@errenthovsep my sister has the 2011 v6 and i dont how many miles it has on it but i know for a fact that it has more then 1000, not one single trans problem, i know a lot of people who have this car, no tans issues to report, and this trans is no way from china, thats mostl likely GM or Crystler
@lchivy It' a blast, but a real enthusiast would take it to a track like willow springs, give us skidpad numbers, braking numbers, lap times, comparisons against other cars, etc.
Instead this guy does a burnout and reads us the info from the pamphlet Ford gave him driving around 'twisty canyon roads'.
@peopleperson36 To be honest dude, having a sports car really isn't recommended to be your first. I don't know much about cars but I'm just saying what I feel; up to you though.
technology is a bitch, my 93 formula(LT1 I/E CHIP 160 STAT 3.73's) beat my son's friends(i'm 54) 2011 V6 by a car length(dig and roll)i mean not bad for an 18 yr old LT1
but V6's today are running what alot of older V8's were. time for the old man to hook up that 125 shot lol !
I heard this car was limited to 112mph or something like that. I know we arent usually going to go that fast but that is a pathetic number. Especially when the Camaro V6 is limited to 155mph.
Come to think of it my moms 4 cyl RAV4 has a higher top speed. Dont ask me how i know that lol.....
@supercarkid Get a tuner and you can turn the govenor off and the speed limiter will be disabled. Then you can race to 160mph till your hearts content.
I'm thinking about buying the Roush-Dub model. All black, limited edition, leather interior, they even added hooks for a baby seat in the back. At 31 MPG and $26,000 sticker, it's the same price as a Prius. I've looked at everything, and this is far and away the best value. The interior is awesome, comfortable, and the Roush package is pretty nasty.
I won't completely blow his cover, but the road he's driving on is off Las Virgenes road or Kanan Dume road which run between Calabasas and Agoura through the Santa Monica mountains out to the beach. Open area and great to drive, but dangerous if you're not a great driver... and this guy obviously is.
It is a very good choice. A lot of power, but very good fuel economy. From KY to Tampa, FL, I just got 30.3 mpg at interstate speeds (70-80). Just note that the insurance may be a little higher. If you opt for the manual transmission, the performance pack is nice. But the auto is very nice, fast, economical, and responsive. I don't think you would be disappointed one bit.
I love those Duratec motors. I've got the Duratec30 in my Mazda and love the sound of the engine and the exhaust. Running e-coutouts for the highway and am piecing together a turbo kit to bring me up to about 300-350whp depending on boost.
I'd recommend the D37 in this car in a heartbeat. Way more power than you expect at this level.
i generally hate muscle cars.. they are rubbish to drive and they kill you at the pumps. BUT OMFG I LOVE THIS Car i regret buying my 2010 GTI now. THAT CAR IS AMAZING
matt dosent look like a serios guy more like a bloke form across the street that smokes dope every day,not mentioning a great presenter ,but he is a greate oresenter!!! i like hes style and honesty
I would love to have the engine and transmission or even that of the 5.0 in my 1994 V6 Mustang. I'd get better miles per gallon with either engine. Technology has come a long way and it makes me jealous :)
@Blazntrez No not really. I know I won;t make 26 mpg when I drive the V8, but I will probably make around 20-22 at least. These aren't the same V8's as a couple of years ago
@adiosk8erxxx no prob ......and i went to dealership and the guy told me its actually a package called RAPID SPEC 202A comes with- Unique bright Pony grille
- Front lower fascia-mounted fog lamps
- 18-inch polished aluminum wheels with Tri-bar Pony center cap
@mtwigs9 Very true. That's always the dead give away on the road for me. however I saw a video the other day with an 11 v6 with true gt fog lights. not those little ones. I think those should stay on the gt personally. Its a great distinction when a stang's coming your way
What packages does this car have on it? The reason I ask is i like the shifter a lot better than the traditional one, is it an option you can add to the car by itself?
@Henzzman By better, he means that it won't break down as soon as the warranty ends. German luxury cars were once reliable, but are now built so poorly, that people only buy them b/c the warranty saves them from expensive repairs.
@marshknute Well,i must admit,i havent tested the new ones but yeah, the old Audi's are extremely reliable, because i drive one,a 1989 Audi V8 Quattro.Though not all brands are made poorly,I dont know any other brands, but i know that vw and audi are built very well, even nowadays.
That car has MORE HORSEPOWER THAN THE ORIGINAL 65 289 THAT PEOPLE NUT THEIR PANTS OVER!!! I've done some pretty epic burnouts in that one and now I can't even begin to call the V6 a girls car. BOW DOWN *FORD*
So, a lot of people obviously don't care much for the standard 2.73 rear axle, or the automatic transmission, calling it sluggish. That may not be so.
At MustangForums, AmericanMuscle tested a totally stock 2011 Automatic V6 with the standard 2.73 gears, using all stock tires, etc. Even using 87 octane. "On 87 octane, the car went a best of 14.271 @ 100.10 MPH!"
With a Bama custom tune, "we were able to get her down the track in 13.73 seconds @ 104.04 MPH!"
9 dislikes from people who bought the 2010 V6, and didn't wait for the 2011. :D
Seriously, I just bought a 2011 Ford Mustang V6 Premium today, and I am shocked at how fast and great-sounding it is. This is truly the best of both worlds. Muscle cars and good fuel economy have never been compatible, until Ford brought us this. Excellent review about an excellent vehicle.
@akoyisangpinoy01 When testing, I've gotten up to 34mpg on a 1-hour drive at 55-60 mph. Otherwise, I have only been checking overall MPGs so-far. Since I bought it about four months ago, the average overall has been 27.2mpgs. About half of my driving is 55-60 mph highway driving. The other half of my driving is in-city. As for how I drive, I always do fast accelerations, fast passing, etc. I don't baby it. It only seems to run better and better as it breaks in more. At about 6k miles right now.

Over head cams have higher parastic drag than push rod engines due to six foot long timen chaines. This is proven by GM Research and published. Note they are the only company to have actually built two exact motors one in over head cam and one in push rod form. Push rods engines make more hp and are more balanced motors with less parastic drag
Thelongmanable 7 months ago
@Thelongmanable So where is GM's 35mpg pushrod v8? ..... OHC motors are more efficient.
funsizetiki 6 months ago
As the price of gas goes HIGHER THE FASTER CARS WILL BECOME FACT. What saves on gas is also what makes killer HORSE POWER. Problem with High efficent High MPG engines is we drive more and drive HARDER. Wait till the electric cars come out and just waite till the HOT ROD community starts to crack electric motors open. It will get really bad ass then. Average street car in the futur will be a 12 sec car. I got a new book called NARC PROGRAM that talks about this subject.
Thelongmanable 8 months ago
@Thelongmanable Fact, High power and gas mileage comes at a price. You haven't taken into account really any outside variables in this. The state of the economy or if new laws and regulations are passed. Those could seriously drop off power ratings to make things possible or affordable. Also, about your future comment... they said by this time we would have flying cars. Also, by street car do you mean sedan or sports car? most people have problems controlling the 12 sec cars now.. lord help us
Texarmageddon 7 months ago
I personally have noticed the sport bikes have been running 13 to one compression ratios all day long for last 10 years and note I run 87 octane with zip zero knock. More I build high compression engines I wonder if knock is a myth or that new ECM technology regulates knock alot better. Car technology hasnt increase rember we use to have 11 to 1 compression ratios back in the sixtys with the L88 corvette that did 11s in 1/4 all day long. Note best Bugattie, Lambo and Corvette today does high 11s
Thelongmanable 8 months ago
Take any for 3.8 liter engine ever made jack it to 10.5 to 1 compression ratio and you will get the same or better 31 mpg. Reason for this over head cams proven by GM with the first ZR1 that over head cams have higher parasitic drag than standerd in block motor cams. Now think they are running twin cams so your odds will be that you will make about 35 mph from a old school 3.8 if you jack the compression ratio to 10:5 to one compression ratio. Face you will make more hp due to less parasiticdrag
Thelongmanable 8 months ago
They can say all the crap that want about the Variable Cam timen but that didnt raise the MPG because its what they call a Physical Impossiblity. What they did was take a dorky engine at 8:0 to 1 compression ration and jack it to a 10.5 to one compression ratio. See last thing you want is more air and fuel into the engine that eats up fuel. What you want is MORE POWER FROM YOUR AIR FUEL RATIO AND you do that by Increasing Compression ratio nothing more nothing less.
Thelongmanable 8 months ago
Only thing ford did was raise the compression ratio up on the car nothing more nothing less. Gas is pushing 4 dollars a gallon people and note cars are getting faster not slower why is this? Simple there is only TWO ways to increase MPG a decrease the Air fuel ratio which does this makes more hp and the other was is to Increase compression ratio which get this Increases hp. HP or High performance engines are BI PRODUCT OF A EFFICENT ENGINE.

Why does every car editor, reviewer, whatever get in the car and do burnouts? Does that make you an 'enthusiast'? Sigh.
svt11111 9 months ago
@svt11111 Cause it's a blast haha
lchivy 8 months ago
@lchivy It' a blast, but a real enthusiast would take it to a track like willow springs, give us skidpad numbers, braking numbers, lap times, comparisons against other cars, etc.
Instead this guy does a burnout and reads us the info from the pamphlet Ford gave him driving around 'twisty canyon roads'.

I heard this car was limited to 112mph or something like that. I know we arent usually going to go that fast but that is a pathetic number. Especially when the Camaro V6 is limited to 155mph.
Come to think of it my moms 4 cyl RAV4 has a higher top speed. Dont ask me how i know that lol.....
supercarkid 10 months ago
@supercarkid Get a tuner and you can turn the govenor off and the speed limiter will be disabled. Then you can race to 160mph till your hearts content.

I'm thinking about buying the Roush-Dub model. All black, limited edition, leather interior, they even added hooks for a baby seat in the back. At 31 MPG and $26,000 sticker, it's the same price as a Prius. I've looked at everything, and this is far and away the best value. The interior is awesome, comfortable, and the Roush package is pretty nasty.
bhbecca 10 months ago
I won't completely blow his cover, but the road he's driving on is off Las Virgenes road or Kanan Dume road which run between Calabasas and Agoura through the Santa Monica mountains out to the beach. Open area and great to drive, but dangerous if you're not a great driver... and this guy obviously is.
bhbecca 10 months ago

Electronic steering assistance similar to Audi but little better? Thats a nice joke, after all its probably copied from Audi or made by.
Henzzman 1 year ago
@Henzzman By better, he means that it won't break down as soon as the warranty ends. German luxury cars were once reliable, but are now built so poorly, that people only buy them b/c the warranty saves them from expensive repairs.
marshknute 1 year ago
@marshknute Well,i must admit,i havent tested the new ones but yeah, the old Audi's are extremely reliable, because i drive one,a 1989 Audi V8 Quattro.Though not all brands are made poorly,I dont know any other brands, but i know that vw and audi are built very well, even nowadays.

brownfield 1 year ago
So, a lot of people obviously don't care much for the standard 2.73 rear axle, or the automatic transmission, calling it sluggish. That may not be so.
At MustangForums, AmericanMuscle tested a totally stock 2011 Automatic V6 with the standard 2.73 gears, using all stock tires, etc. Even using 87 octane. "On 87 octane, the car went a best of 14.271 @ 100.10 MPH!"
With a Bama custom tune, "we were able to get her down the track in 13.73 seconds @ 104.04 MPH!"
The automatic is pretty capable.

Seriously, I just bought a 2011 Ford Mustang V6 Premium today, and I am shocked at how fast and great-sounding it is. This is truly the best of both worlds. Muscle cars and good fuel economy have never been compatible, until Ford brought us this. Excellent review about an excellent vehicle.

about how much mpg do u get? and what kinda driving do u do?
akoyisangpinoy01 11 months ago
@akoyisangpinoy01 When testing, I've gotten up to 34mpg on a 1-hour drive at 55-60 mph. Otherwise, I have only been checking overall MPGs so-far. Since I bought it about four months ago, the average overall has been 27.2mpgs. About half of my driving is 55-60 mph highway driving. The other half of my driving is in-city. As for how I drive, I always do fast accelerations, fast passing, etc. I don't baby it. It only seems to run better and better as it breaks in more. At about 6k miles right now.
