  • Prophet 5

  • genius stuff!!!

  • agreed!

  • Wow! Amazing audio quality! Thank you for this! YMO is simply amazing.

  • THIS. IS. DA BOMB!!!! I would SO dance to this in a heartbeat. That said, I'd also like to play the keyboards on this. The runs are so infectious, I'd play them ALL DAY.

  • @Tripnick I would hope you wouldn't dance like the girl in the video at least lol.

  • it's good to see some asians put their piano lessons to good use!

  • Man i wish i can see that live!!!Ive seen kraftwerk live in SF back in the day,BADAZZZZ!!!!!Cool video but quit with the slowmo of the girl jumpn around!!!!Jeesh we wanna see the composers work their magic, esp towards the end of song, should have stayed zoomed on the keyboards to watch those display some skillzzz!!!!Drummer killed it too,i used to(try) play the beat out with my #2 pencils in class, while listening to my walkman! :-)

  • @09FLHT

That girl jumpin around is Akiko Yano who is a very well respected artist in her own right

  • damn just look at all that synth-gear

  • OMG !!!

I would like all synths on this scene !

    Oberheim, Prophet...etc

    An analog dream !

  • @docfraktal don't forget Jupiter 8 (I got one but don't use it but no won't sell it), but the Prophet that was THE analogue synth of the 80's while the DX7 was the digital. Thank god for both.

  • OMG !!!

I would like all synths on this scene !

    と言われていたのに、演奏自体は殆ど人間がやっている所が逆に凄い^^;

  • Love this!!!!... extra BPM version with bouncy Akiko having a great time, more so than Soul Train 80 performance!. Great to find posting of this classic after having worn the grooves from my vinyl several moons ago...... great stuff, made in Japan.

  • totally great analogic-synth-pop-music

  • Big drum set, over 20!

Anyhow, this is timeless, like s Beatles.

  • i'm sure i've seen the yellow 12" vinyl on eBay for like 99p . . .

would look great on my wall ;)

  • If only I'd never thrown away my yellow vinyl version of this album... Argh! Amazing stuff to this day.

  • wow!!!

  • I *HEART* Ryuichi Sakamoto, he's a genius. YMO are Japan's answer to Kraftwerk.

  • Annnnd star-wipe and we're out!

  • Hahahaha....

  • i was 12 when this came out. i played this song so much the vinyl on the album was worn out.

  • @jamiirali1 Same here, jamiirali, except I was 10. I had the promotional yellow LP version and played it so much it was ruined. Wish I'd taken care of it and kept it!

  • @cgramer i wonder if you can get this in a ringtone?

  • Comment removed

  • currently on ebay their rare album "reconstructions", search under seller colinschool

  • I recognize the regular band members, but who's the girl bouncing around at the keyboards?

  • akiko yano, she was ryuichi sakamoto's wife

  • well, its his ex wife.

    they are divorced already unfortunitely...

  • hence was, moron. try reading before replying.

  • TUUNE!

  • JAPAN ROCKS!!!!!!!

  • haha! i came here looking for richie jacksons firecracker 19 stair.

  • i sure hope youre a troll you stupid fuck

  • it's japanese, not chinese...why the f... do you look at it, if you hate it? and all u homophobic assholes always using "gay" as the ultimate negative term can kiss my butt...

  • i don't need to listen to metal and crap like that...again, what the f... do want here? go worship venom or something!

  • loved this since it first dropped. classic. timeless. fun and cool.

  • amazing

  • priceless tune classic in my box safe n sound

  • also it would be one of many times JL has stolen a song, just ask any mariah or usher fan, usher was in a lawsuit at one stage , but i don't know what happen there.

  • Jennifer Lopez stole the sample for her song I´M REAL!!!

  • Nah, she sampled (or more likley re-recored so she only had to pay composer's royalties) YMO's version of this track, which let's not forget is a cover version anyway. It's doubtfull that YMO made (or were entitled to) any money from Jennifer Lopez's song.

  • acctually mariah was gonna use this sample for "loverboy", but as M was no longer with sony, head of sony tommy m. wanted to break her career down, so got JL to use it in her song "i'm real" and released it 1 month b4 mariah was set to, M ended up changing the song using Cameos "candy", but if you listen to the remix of loverboy when da brat is rapping it goes bak into the firecracker sample & da brat raps "hate on me as much as u want 2, u cant do what the f*ck i do ... basically an F U to JL.

  • Don't think that's the case. The opening track you're referring to is from a Rick James song, "Mary Jane," not this YMO tune.

  • Not sure if you're addressing me, AriesTRam, so sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick.

This band's version of this track (it was originaly by Martin Denny) was used as the backing for Jeniffer Lopez's "I'm Real" single.

That said they did do two seperate single releases here in the UK. The second, a hip hop style re-mix (featuring Jah Rule if I remember rightly), didn't feature the YMO orchestra sample. Maybe you mean that version?

  • Billy: I believe you are correct, the Jah Rule version is the one I'm thinking of. "Firecracker" and "Mary Jane" by Rick James sound a bit similar, though.

  • the first version is rick james...mary jane girls to be precise...but the album version it's ymo - for sure, i got it on 12"!

  • You may be right, but the Rick James song is definitely, "Mary Jane." The Mary Jane Girls were the backup singers who performed with James and had a couple of really big hits, most notably "In My House," and "All Night Long."

  • are you sure? i compared them, as i own them both (i like rick james a lot...)..i didn't find any connection, and i'm very used to dig for samples...maybe i don't get it...

  • isnt this computer games?

  • Yes, it's Computer games... lovely!

  • yes this music stars it computer games sounds =)

  • no this song is not computer game this song is called firecracker

  • "a.k.a. "Computer Games" in U.S."

    Fact-checking is easy.

  • Use to dance to this in Shelter (NYC) back in late 80's ... hot tune

  • I'm from Sweden and this is the only music group I know from Japan. I love this song and her who dances at the keyboard. And I'm very happy to find videoclips here. Thank you, I solute you!

    Hugs Svenne

  • No guys, really i love 70's and 80's but today music is great, too.BUT you have to find this music:when you're just watching MTV you'll see a lot of crap. For example, new album of JMJ is best of the best from Jarre,TEO and TEA

  • I am really getting hooked on this group. Great style and originality. I read about them at the wiki some, but was sort of disappointed Akiko Ya no was not mentioned. I feel she contributed to the group too, judging by the videos here at YouTube. Are they back together now, as YMO?

  • I love it!

  • one of the best poppin-songs... i love to dance on it :D

  • bring back the 80's.

    todays music sucks

  • Totally agreed

  • Totally agree too!!

  • AMEN . . todays "music" leaves me dry.

  • 80's music rocked!

Most of todays music just leaves me cold.

  • Excellent video and music. Think this tune is on the Afrika Bambaataa Death Mix Album...Great to see it here.

  • Saw YMO at NYC Palladium in 1980 . Fab concert . This song was originally done by Martin Denny in the 50's .

  • This number "Firecracker" is very rare a lot of Y.M.O's video. Thank you so much!

  • So many 'Rave' tune artists have sampled this track! Sweetness! thanks for the post

  • i just found out that j.lo sampled this song in her hit "i'm real". i like this original better than the remake.

  • KA~GI YA~!!

    Nice Firecracker!

  • Their drummer always impress me.

  • same

  • Fantastic! always loved this group since I first heard them in high school. they were so ahead of their time, and this is timeless and still incredibly fun and fresh. long live YMO! I would pay to see them today. Maybe a double bill with Kraftwerk? domo arigato. Peace.
