(PLEASE DON'T GET MAD, MY OPINION) Alright let me say this... I honestly don't even like any of new Pearl Jam's songs because the music just isn't good like it was. (with the exception of a few). Ten, Vs., and Vitalogy were their best albums hands down. (And I don't only mean the hits). You know Pearl Jam is my favorite band, and I would love to be able to say that I love all of their songs, (I even bought the new albums and tried to like 'em) but I can't like it no matter how many times I hear
@Rfprimm man is just so useless to say that I completetely agree with your point of view, is just time passing by, and if you look -as Hunter S Thompson said- with the right pair of eyes the wave just have rolled down, and the 90´s our 90´s are as dead as they can, so let´s enjoy this piece on the museum of a dead generation, even we can laugh at it.
@eyal1272: It's the cover to the Alive single. Not sure exactly what it means, always pictured it as being maybe Eddie screaming towards the sky "I'm still alive"... even though it wasnt meant as a good thing in the song... I always thought it'd go better with Jeremy though.

@Nomad6763 I know, they have some really good unknowns. I really suggest buying their Lost Dogs album, you'll find this version on there but personally I like the more raw version of this. I really suggest checking out a song they did on their Lost Dog Album called "Alone." That was another B-side to a Ten cd-single release and the remastered version really kicks ass.
@LeafFan4Life86 great advice man :) "Alone" its freakin amazing!!! I'd also go to the song "Hold On" :) it is also a Ten outtake, even though Lost Dogs says its from Vs.
@xxcorey23xx: They evolved. They're still great, but they are more modern. If you gave their new material an honest listen, you'll know it's on par with stuff like this.
@Tigerpuffer yeah, I'd have to agree. The stuff Pearl Jam puts out is top notch in my book!!! I love a band that changes to suit what is best for itself, and PJ did just that. Gotta love Riot Act and Backspacer :)
@Tigerpuffer hell yes Avocado!!! Severed Hand and Army Reserve are my all time favorites on that album :) oh and Inside Job...well, the whole album is spectacular!!!
@MrWookie91: My favorites on ST are Severed Hand, Gone, Worldwide Suicide, Life Wasted, Comatose and Big Wave. It's a great album... as is Backspacer... I dont understand all the hate they get.
@6690698 Not that I don't agree with you because I felt the same way, but Vedder said something to the effect of he did not want to put "Angel" on a later album because people had to pay to join the 10 club way back in order to get it, so if the band just released it on a later album that the people who got it as a 10 club single may feel ripped off.
Love this song , but don't like this version. I have the version from the "alive" Cd single very different from the "Lost Dogs" cd.That cd was a bit of a disappointment for me. I was hoping some of the songs were the original recordings, and not rerecording . But THE best opening lyrics ever!!
The fact that you goons have favourite albums shows you're not real fans... I love each and every album by Pearl Jam for different reasons, because they are all different and incomparable, so stop debating it and be amazed by every song they release.
The fact that you make a distinction between "real" and "not real" fans based on people having an album preference is ridiculous. I love all their work, but I do have my preferences. Being able to objectively criticise your favourite bands is one of the marks of a fan.
@venusasaboy1991 So if someone doesn't do that they're not a fan? And you just called making distinctions between real and non-real fans ridiculous... Nice work, moron. I love all Pearl Jam albums for reasons I explained in my comment. If people don't like a particular album by them then no, they're not real fans, as every album is well done, they're just fans of a certain type of Pearl Jam.
Are you saying you like all PJ material equally? Most people have preferences, shaped by all sorts of things. I love all PJ's albums but there are some that really stand out and it's natural to have favourites, and indeed to be critical of where the band goes astray (like good bands do themselves) is the mark of a good fan. To like everything they put out equally no matter what doesn't make you a real fan, it makes you a fanboy. Don't even think of trying to say I'm not a real fan
And by fanboy I mean dangerously obsessive, as in get a life obsessive. I don't believe for one minute you truly like everything equally and don't have favourites, most of us 'real' PJ fans have favourite, like the band do themselves... and naturally those favourites are different from each other because we're all different people.
@DeanGoulding Dude, I never said that. Chill yourself. I said ONE of the marks. There are many marks of fans, including liking all their albums equally (such as yourself). Actually read my comment - I never said if someone doesn't make a preference, they're not a fan. All I was saying was that preferring one album to another makes me no less of a fan than you and that trying to make out you're a bigger fan than other people is childish. Seriously though, chill out, Youtube hostility = v. lame
You haven't exactly contributed anything particularly intelligent in the comments section yourself. I see no problem in debating which album is best - it's relevant to the upload and it's something most people can contribute to without too much hostility. There's nothing moronic about the subject either, so long as it doesn't turn into a petty slagging match.
@TheGargantuanSock I'm sorry, I wasn't aware anyone was talking to you, so I do believe you're starting your own little "petty slagging match", Mr. Moral Arbiter. Stop.
@TheGargantuanSock Do you think you own YouTube or something? I was saying that all Pearl Jam albums are great; is that not contributing? You don't think I can listen to Wash on the CD's I have or on my iPod? If you're going to upload a video, don't start having a power trip like you own the content.
I have no qualms with you saying you like all their albums. Calling people morons and saying they aren't real fans because they have a favourite album on the other hand is arrogant, rude and wrong. I don't appreciate trolling on YouTube, neither do the vast majority of its users - I'm in a position where I can block trolls from commenting, so why shouldn't I? You tried to start an argument, you couldnt back it up with any substance... healthy debate is appreciated, trolling isn't.
Geesh, Ten was a better sounding record when I was 18, thankfully my musical taste along with Pearl Jams' songwriting have matured since then. For those of you who think Ten is the greatest, go listen to Creed, they keep trying to re-release Ten with every release they do. I love ten, but to say that was the pinnacle is very shortsighted. If they kept trying to sound like that, they would have broken up many years ago or be stuck playing state fairs.
LOL at the uploader saying Self Titled was better than Ten. The songwriting, lyrics, riffs, groove, vocals.. everything about Ten > Self Titled. Eaaaasily.
I stand by what I said. Ten is a great album, but Pearl Jam have released several that have been better: Vs and the self-titled being two of them. Lyrically especially, Vedder has improved greatly over the years while McCready's guitar work has improved dramatically and both show on the self-titled.
@TheGargantuanSock I'm sorry but you CANNOT say with a straight face Eddie sounds better on the self titled than he does on Ten. COME ON MAN... to each their own.. =S
I cannot, so I won't. What I will say though is that he still sounds fantastic and makes up for any loss in his voice due to age with his masterful songwriting and the way he pours his heart and soul into his music. As for the rest of the band, there's no doubting that they've only gotten tighter and more impressive over the years. Pearl Jam as a band have only gotten better since Ten.
@TheGargantuanSock Faaaair enough. Though Eddie's decline vocal wise can also be attributed to the awful smoking and drinking habit's he's developed, not just age. Chris Cornell has recently started to sound fantastic again after a vocal drop-off back around '06. I have faith Eddie can improve.
@Badfish228 I agree. But, you cannot say that he sounds better on one album than the other. His voice changes on every album. "Ten" wasn't even their heaviest. Watch PJ20. You'll get it.
why are these songs sounding different than the b sides in the cds?(first the harmonica in footsteps and now this one)i feel im missing out on sumthin here
This version is from lost dogs. Ed re recorded the vocals on alot of the ten era tracks. All the intrumentals are from 91 or whatever year but his vocals are from like 2002 or so.
grunge is a made up name for the few bands that came out of one city...all of them have completly different music.....but think all you dumb fuck..think of the big four "grunge" bands...SG, PJ, Nirvana, and AIC....do any of them sound alike? its a media given name so quit calling it grunge you sheep
ten and all the bonus tracks are just simply amazing. Words cannot describe. Thats why its my most favorite album -ever, and im pretty sure it will stay that way for a llllloooooooonnnnngggg time
@danielchristant "Grunge" is really just a variant/slang for "alternative" which is a variant of Rock & Roll. "Grunge" is less of a genre than a geographic label that doesn't really do a good job of defining the bands in it as a whole.
I actually have the Japanese import "Alive" single that I snagged in '93 and it has the same cover, but it had "Evenflow" rerecorded from the vid, "Alive" from the vid, an alternate "Dirty Frank" than the one on Lost Dogs, and this version of "Wash". It was as good as gold.
Anyone ever hear of Checkpoint Charlie, recorded in Germany in 96? Or know how it might be obtained? It existed at one time, but no one seems to have heard of it
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
my favorite pearl jam song along with indifference. Wish they made more stuff like this. Ten was amazing, vs was brilliant, then it was all downhill. The self titled was terrible in my opinion.
It's one of the best albums they've put out, better than Ten, although not as important.
Grunge died a long time ago, but PJ have always sounded fresh with each new album, never dated - they've evolved into one of the best bands of the last two decades, and I only expect their next album to be another triumph.
well side! even now in 2009 they still live in grunge with the new release of Brother. Nothing of pearl jam even changed in that song. just fucking great!
the demos sounded great but what i heard of it until now wasn't as good as i expected.
And personally i think binaural was their last great record.
The following ones where just not as good. I think they should have spent 1 more year on each, riot act and pearl jam sound in my opinion like they aren't really finished.
But pearl jam was and will always be a live band. They are good on albums, but mindblowing during concerts.
@TheGargantuanSock, I disagree with you. Ten was way better. the self-titled was full of filler with maybe 2 good songs on it. Ten was beastly song after beastly song.
- same opinion - Ten and Vs. - Abbruzzese´s force .... that was what I liked .... then it was all downhill .... borin´, terrible garage sound ... where´s that pure sound of Vs. of Go, Dissident, Daughter . . such a clean studio sound .... and Indifference - you can hear Abbruzzese´s snare buzzin´ ....
@mileswarm i liked abbruzze too, i met him in the hallway before a pearl jam concert in san diego. i dont know why they got rid of him. he was the "ripper" on the drums
@flamencojaymo I agree with you, except their self titled album. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't fantastic. It was a middle thing. Ten was a perfect album and Vs. was fantastic.
I was at a PJ show in Pittsburgh where they brought a lady up on stage that had been following them on tour with an umbrella that had WASH written on the top of it. So they brought her on stage and performed the song..pretty damn cool.
To ralfmoeller87. I agree. Though, to me, I've always pictured this song as a "shooting pool at a dimly lit pool hall" kinda song,.............. at night,..
this is friggin wicked,,,,,,,,,,,ive always had this song but this is the first time im hearing it and im am completly pearljammed right now........WASH MY LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lost Dogs is a of compilation of unreleased songs, you could call it rarities indeed. As the songs have been recorded at very different times, the album is not very homogeneous, but there are still very good songs, like a studio version of yellow ledbetter, this song is on it's own a reason to buy the album
I actually snagged in 1993 an import Alive single from Japan that looks like this one but was $20 and it has an alternate(to whats on Lost Dogs) version of both Wash and Dirty Frank, plus the rerecorded Evenflow and the version of Alive from the videos.
dmaradona10, I've noticed that a lot of the singles that were re-released on the Lost Dogs & Rearviewmirror comps have been altered from their original versions (footsteps, drifting and brother come to mind) and some have been mixed again (alive & blacks reverb has been toned down so they don't sound as dated).
intergalactic-You're right, I think the only alternate recording I like better then the original is the Footsteps remix with the harmonica, it's a nice touch.
I'm actually not a big fan of the remixng they did for Lost Dogs. I love that there's a harmonica part in Footsteps now but I think Eddie has done better parts live than what he did for Lost Dogs. I think that was the only time I've questioned something Pearl Jams done, ever. Haha. That and the African choir for Betterman (I think?) on a Xmas single.
I like that version, but the european Ten cd contained another live version of the song that sounds really fucking good, with the live version of Alive and Dirty Frank as a bonus tracks, anybody remember it??I like that version much more than the Lost Dogs studio version, I´ve got that song´s version in the Ten cd but I cant find it here and in internet!!! it sounds.....such mystical, in the gold years of the band´s live shows... I love that B side and the Pearl Jam´s early years!!!!
I'm wearing that shirt :P

Eddie is truly the greatest voice in rock and roll to this date
skelagervej423 2 years ago 47
@skelagervej423 rock and roll what are you talking about :P this is Grunge genre dude its true that eddie has a great voice but dude no rock & roll
danielchristant 2 years ago
@danielchristant "Grunge" is really just a variant/slang for "alternative" which is a variant of Rock & Roll. "Grunge" is less of a genre than a geographic label that doesn't really do a good job of defining the bands in it as a whole.
So yeah, Eddie Vedder is a Rock & Roll singer.

dude, grunge is a part of alternative ROCK so stfu, you don't know what your talking about

@skelagervej423 So true! And cheers to that! Wish they could re-capture magic they had back then. Eddie is the only one who still has it.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
my favorite pearl jam song along with indifference. Wish they made more stuff like this. Ten was amazing, vs was brilliant, then it was all downhill. The self titled was terrible in my opinion.
flamencojaymo 2 years ago
"terrible"?
It's one of the best albums they've put out, better than Ten, although not as important.
Grunge died a long time ago, but PJ have always sounded fresh with each new album, never dated - they've evolved into one of the best bands of the last two decades, and I only expect their next album to be another triumph.
TheGargantuanSock 2 years ago 17
well side! even now in 2009 they still live in grunge with the new release of Brother. Nothing of pearl jam even changed in that song. just fucking great!
Keeponskating 2 years ago
don't know about their new record.
the demos sounded great but what i heard of it until now wasn't as good as i expected.
And personally i think binaural was their last great record.
The following ones where just not as good. I think they should have spent 1 more year on each, riot act and pearl jam sound in my opinion like they aren't really finished.
But pearl jam was and will always be a live band. They are good on albums, but mindblowing during concerts.
grungeera 2 years ago
@TheGargantuanSock, I disagree with you. Ten was way better. the self-titled was full of filler with maybe 2 good songs on it. Ten was beastly song after beastly song.

- same opinion - Ten and Vs. - Abbruzzese´s force .... that was what I liked .... then it was all downhill .... borin´, terrible garage sound ... where´s that pure sound of Vs. of Go, Dissident, Daughter . . such a clean studio sound .... and Indifference - you can hear Abbruzzese´s snare buzzin´ ....
mileswarm 1 year ago
@mileswarm i liked abbruzze too, i met him in the hallway before a pearl jam concert in san diego. i dont know why they got rid of him. he was the "ripper" on the drums
bullldogs004 1 year ago
@bullldogs004 I know Dave played from 91 .... he recorded Hard to imagine .... i did an error .... yes, here it is Krusen
mileswarm 1 year ago
@mileswarm Abbruzzese didn´t play on "Ten",the drummer was Dave Krusin....or Krusen,i get confused about it.

@flamencojaymo I agree with you, except their self titled album. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't fantastic. It was a middle thing. Ten was a perfect album and Vs. was fantastic.

obviously PJ are well known world-wide but that would be really cool if you could explain the status in the middle east or at least Syria
thanks bro

I was at a PJ show in Pittsburgh where they brought a lady up on stage that had been following them on tour with an umbrella that had WASH written on the top of it. So they brought her on stage and performed the song..pretty damn cool.

PJ is genius
BenjaminMJ 2 years ago 2
Lost Dogs is a of compilation of unreleased songs, you could call it rarities indeed. As the songs have been recorded at very different times, the album is not very homogeneous, but there are still very good songs, like a studio version of yellow ledbetter, this song is on it's own a reason to buy the album
sexgitarist 2 years ago
I agree. Best band ever. Yellow Ledbetter might be my favorite song of all time!
BlazedRicky 2 years ago
I actually snagged in 1993 an import Alive single from Japan that looks like this one but was $20 and it has an alternate(to whats on Lost Dogs) version of both Wash and Dirty Frank, plus the rerecorded Evenflow and the version of Alive from the videos.
gossardX 3 years ago

DIVA1430 3 years ago
Wow, this sounds like a alternate recording from the one that was on the original b-side.
dmaradona10 3 years ago 5
dmaradona10, I've noticed that a lot of the singles that were re-released on the Lost Dogs & Rearviewmirror comps have been altered from their original versions (footsteps, drifting and brother come to mind) and some have been mixed again (alive & blacks reverb has been toned down so they don't sound as dated).
intergalactichaiku, pearl jam PHD
intergalactichaiku 3 years ago
intergalactic-You're right, I think the only alternate recording I like better then the original is the Footsteps remix with the harmonica, it's a nice touch.
dmaradona10 3 years ago
I'm actually not a big fan of the remixng they did for Lost Dogs. I love that there's a harmonica part in Footsteps now but I think Eddie has done better parts live than what he did for Lost Dogs. I think that was the only time I've questioned something Pearl Jams done, ever. Haha. That and the African choir for Betterman (I think?) on a Xmas single.
intergalactichaiku 3 years ago
I like that version, but the european Ten cd contained another live version of the song that sounds really fucking good, with the live version of Alive and Dirty Frank as a bonus tracks, anybody remember it??I like that version much more than the Lost Dogs studio version, I´ve got that song´s version in the Ten cd but I cant find it here and in internet!!! it sounds.....such mystical, in the gold years of the band´s live shows... I love that B side and the Pearl Jam´s early years!!!!
