  • Hughes is probably the guy with the largest (potential - achievement) spread.

What an incredible talent he was, I loved to watch him bat, and hated to see him get out. He ended up having to face the `fearsome foursome' as captain, when he broke down in tears, I had trouble holding it together too.

  • Terry Alderman deserved man of the match just for making TEN!!

  • Shame on you Rob, those tags are just WOEFULLY inadequate. "Cricket". Not a single mention of gayhinds or FLOPDULKAR. I am disappoint.

  • @CoolStoryBrosauce GAYHIND MADARCHOD FLOPDULKAR

  • WTF!? How is 1:12 not a no-ball?!?

  • Rob, how do you manage to get old innings in India, Pakistan etc? You are amazingly resourceful.

  • @irigvg man i work my ass off, i tell you. Lifelong hunting.

  • you needed courage to play cricket in those days unlike today .... but anyhow stiffshit

  • notice there are no ropes 10 metres in from the boundary would have been 200* on today's grounds!

  • There have been 100s of innings like that! Nothing special! I would like to see more 4th innings successful run chases in Wisden Top 10, but at the moment only Lara's 153* is in the list. Batting in 4th innings is far more difficult than batting in 1st innings.

  • @PersonOfBook Yeah right, name the unbeaten 100's innings that were scored on day one against the most fearsome bowling attack of all time on a horrible wicket.....

  • @robelinda2 lol. Rob I heard that in this innings kim got hit on the body a lot of times. Is that true ?

  • @snacks975 yes, he got hit an amazing number of times. pitch was a nightmare, up and down from ball one. Even the WI batsmen had zero idea.

  • @PersonOfBook I remember this innings. It was played on the old terrible MCG pitch. One ball would fly off the pitch at your head, the next ball would pitch in the same spot and go thru at ankle height. Hughes innings was one of great courage. He got hit many times in this innings (not shown here) against the best bowling attack the cricket world has seen at the height of their dominance

  • @PersonOfBook You shouldnt be allowed to post on anything related to cricket. Anyone who calls this innings "nothing special" clearly has no idea what he's talking about.

An unbeaten 100 against 4 of the greatest fast bowlers ever, on a horrendous pitch, when none of his teammates crossed 21? Yeah, thats nothing special -_-

  • Those were the fuckin' days...

  • Unbelieveable. I'd come to think all footage of this knock was gone! That innings was an incredible feat by a genuinely gutsy sportsman

  • Reminder to all of what a great batsmen he was.

  • could you do an extended version of this vid with a bit of the pepper he received?

  • Great video man.. do you have Holding's 11 wickets in this match? Also anything from the series against the pakis the same year?

    cheers

  • Oh, that was great. Hughes was so awkwardly graceful somehow.

  • Amazing, I've been waiting sp long to see this. Thanks so much!

  • What we don't see in this video is the absolute battering Hughes recieved from the WI bowlers. That is one of the reasons why people who saw it regard it as one of the greatest innings in history, by anyone. He got hit so many times, I personally wondered if he would want to play ever again. It was an unbelievable innings.

  • @wkmitchell Agree, I cant obviously upload the whole innings, but I should make a more longer detailed highlights video showing the full innings. Highlights videos tend to only show batsmen putting away bad balls, rather than how they handled the really good balls, which is a shame.

  • @robelinda2 Hi,

I hope you didn't think that I was inferring that you should upload the whole innings. It was just an observation I guess. It would be great mind you, but I hope you didn't take me the wrong way :)

    Cheers!

  • @wkmitchell Oh no youre good, dont worry! I didnt take it the wrong way. I was just ranting!

  • @robelinda2 exactly, ball to ball is always the best- so when you have time please do upload some more balls (if you can). that season was great like you said

  • @wkmitchell aaaah that is very interesting. That is one reason I think ball to ball is always best. many times itis the editors bias that comes through in compiling the highlights, Yeah that makes it an even greater innings considering that Hughes was no Viv as far as talent and still to stick it out that way is great. thx for the info. by the way who bothered him the most ? which bowler i mean

  • @wkmitchell

KIM HUGHES was a great player, unfortunately politics by ACB curtailed his career.A true sportsman

  • Sir can you post the whole test highlights. thx you are the best

  • @ROBELINDA2 ,this is your favorite Boxing Day 100,right?

  • @robelinda2

Ian Chappell rates this as probably the best innings he has watched. Obviously above highlights won't show the class of this innings. Would like to request a longer version of this innings on your other channel. Please do consider.

  • I remember listening to the radio commentary of this innings; what an absolutely fantastic trip down memory lane. Hughes was somewhat of a tragic hero, incredible talent foiled by absurdly bad luck. I don't think there are too many batsmen who could have scored an innings like this against Holding, Roberts, Croft & Garner.

  • Your side 8/3 and coming in to face an attack comprising of only Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Joel Garner and Colin Croft. What was the definition of pressure, again?

  • @Imrankniazi and malcolm marshall. they were playing a quintet of pace in this match! ridiculous.

  • @majinvegeta2007 Marshal didn't play in this Test.

  • That's Tony Jones, he is only at most in his mid 40s, was this done in 1980 when he was 15 or at a latter date?

  • @border205 This video came out in 1999. It was part of a classic test series release by Ch 9. Was great when they used to release classic matches every year on video.

  • Thanks for uploading this. In my view this is in the top 10 greatest Test centuries by Australian batsmen.
