"No" is a great word when you say it at the right time. "No" is a great word to say when facing a government centric health care system instead of a patient centric health care system. @notenuftoys Every bill passed by congress has had some form of bribery, political favors, or regulations in it. As for tax increases, frankly, this bill only raised taxes on the rich because they were already paying less than the rest of us. Even after the tax hikes proposed, it's not quite even yet. I don't care how rich you are, we ALL need to pay the same % tax. Republicans have been giving rich people the tax-cut reach-around for too long. It hurt national income and hurts the middle class.

"No" is the exact word that must be used against this current debacle of a health care proposal from the United State Senate. Hell, even Howard Dean is saying "no" to it at this point.
You're an idiot they are saying "no" because they want more like the Medicare buy-in or the public option in it. You don't actually think they agree with Republicans? They dislike this bill, yes, but not healthcare reform.
I never said they didn't want liberalized, socialized health care reform. I was merely making the point that it's an odd world where Dean agrees with the Republicans, if only in spirit. The details are an entirely different matter; Dean wants the bill as hardcore socialized as can be. I'm quite aware of that. Hold your tongue before you go assuming the idiocy of someone again, please. You only do yourself a disservice.
but during 8 years of bush's spending, including shoving billions down the two black holes of iraq and afghanistan and all the repukes could say was yes
Lol, no offense, but this bill which is crafted almost entirely of Democrat proposals is (a) absent a public option and (b) forces 40 million new customers to purchase health insurance from private companies. Who's the party of Insurance Companies of America again?
@njcarlos1 Absent of a public option because the GOP had it removed (refused to vote for it unless it was removed, only to not vote for it anyway). All the great ideas were removed by the republicans because they wanted the bill to fail (and admitted it). We had a well-planned, bipartisan bill with a public option over a year ago when it started. All the shortcomings of this bill were from republicans gutting it. They refused to do their jobs, yet still got paid with our tax money. It's sad.
@archon099 And yet you're completely wrong, because the HCR Bill got 0 GOP votes... so GOP support, or lack thereof, was immaterial. Why would they gut it and vote no? Or more importantly, why would the Dems allow the Reps to gut it if they were going to vote no? The HCR Bill is 100% Democrat, 0% Republican. What's funny is Democrats couldn't even get their own party to vote along party lines. Amazing you have yet to realize these facts... for over a month now? It's sad.
Because they wanted it to fail and be started over from scratch, so they tried to make it so no one would vote for the bill, not even dems. It backfired though. Instead we passed a limping bill.
"why would the Dems allow the Reps to gut it if they were going to vote no?"
They didn't know they were gonna vote "no" because the dems were being way too altruistic, expecting the GOP to actually cooperate. Dems were kinda pushovers.
@archon099 They did know, so that makes NO sense. Even if the Dems *WERE* being pushovers, they new very well before the votes were cast that 0 Reps were going to vote. They knew it, this is fact. Therefore, since they knew, they should have introduced the ORIGINAL bill that they "wanted" and voted along party lines. This is a very simple concept... you can not blame Republicans for Democratic incompetency, it just doesn't work. The bill is the work of the Dems, point blank period.
@njcarlos1 Because the ORIGINAL bill was already off the tables! Do you not understand how legislation works? They start out with a proposal. That proposal goes through changes based on what the legislators want. They kept making changes constantly to try to win any sort of approval, only to be told no anyway. Ultimately they had a more definite bill now than they had before, albeit not as good of a bill. The original was just a proposition. It needed more elaboration and fine-tuning.
@njcarlos1 You need to learn about legislative process, njcarlos1. Once a proposal has been tossed out, or dramatically altered, bringing the original back is not only slow (slower than the year it took to get THIS bill) but also very difficult to do. The GOP said that bill was the fricken devil regardless of what was done to it, so we had to go with the one that had the most elaboration on what it did. The original PROPOSAL was about twice as large and wasn't fine-tuned.
@njcarlos1 You can't get mad at the Democrats for passing a bill that the GOP deliberately REFUSED to improve, and at every turn TRIED to sabotage. Most of the things said about the bill by the GOP were complete lies designed to make people hate it. It was all political spite. It was an agenda. It was republicans WANTING this bill to fail because they felt if it failed, Obama would fail. The bill we got isn't even bad. It's just not as amazing as it could have been without the GOP's tantrum.
@njcarlos1 : That is incorrect. Republicans promised the Democrats votes if certain things were considered. The Democrats made those considerations and amended the bill. However in final passage Republicans still said "No" and then they made accusations that simply do not exist.
Here's my problem with all of this "No" business. The GOP said "No" to THEIR OWN BILL. The Democrats introduced a Republican bill with a Democratic sponsor, just to show how irrational the Republicans are.
@nongo Yeah, plus the few ideas they had in the original proposal (like the so-called "death panels", yes, that was added by a Repub.) they decided to remove to make the bill less desirable. No wonder their ideas were turned down. Once the GOP realized it would be better for their party strategy to make the bill/Obama fail than to make our nation succeed, they jumped right into the insurance companies' pockets with an overzealous "NO!"
Realize Neosporane has no nutrients in it. It simply kills germs & bacteria so that good cells can grow. That's all we need to do here. Kill this bad legislation & the free market will take care of the situation. No is a good word when it comes to bad law. If this shit is so good, why don't the states do it. Well some have & they are broke for it, have bad doctors & still aren't treating everybody. If it's so good, why won't they read it & let us know what it says.
@MrHelldogger "why won't they read it & let us know what it says."
Because all legislation is public record that you can find through research on your own. You can find it yourself like the rest of us. Laziness is no excuse for ignorance.
As for how "bad" the legislation is, the fact that you don't know what it says shows how well you would know. You only say it's bad because you were told it was bad, but if you read it, it's not. It's just missing some of the good parts of the 2008 proposal.
"Can any other state come close to the wacky duo of Coburn and Inhofe?"
Kansas is close with Roberts and Brownback, but still not as bad as Coburn and Inhofe. Even the Southern states are better. Here's why: the Southern states (Deep South) have their rednecks, but they also have a more genteel class of people. Members of this latter class become politicians, professionals, etc. Okies, OTOH, are quite proud of their ignorance and stupidity and elect same to federal office.
Wow, what happen to saying no with the patriot act? What happen to No when going into Iraq illegally? What happen to no when we gave Telecoms retroactive immunity to spy on Americans? What happen to no when you removed the financial market regulations? What happen to no when you allowed the media to consolidate into major monopoly's?What happen to no when you bailed out the failing corporations? What happened to no when you locked up state medical marijuana patients? Now you find No, jackass.
@bigc028282 I'm a democrat and even I feel for you on that one. :-/ I wish the patriot act was tossed to hell and we got some real regulations on our economy again to keep recession 2.0 from coming. We did a clone Bush bailout (with a few more rules on it, but still Bush-styled). He extended the Patriot Act. Frankly, I think we should focus on some civil rights and economic issues right now.
@Veohblows: the only time the GOPer's said "No" during the Boosh Years was when the large corporations asked "is that amount of money sufficient to buy your vote?"
@jonr7007 the problem with people like Coburn is he's from Oklahoma which is populated with about the largest collection of idiots in the US outside of the deep south. He'll have to be caught toe-tapping in the men's room before he'll be voted out.
Sure, just let 40,000 die every year w/o insurance. Although the bill is a worthless piece of crap since the industry successfully removed all the effective parts. They are the party of no, and my reply to them is NO!
WWJD: He would not spend 635 Billion on Military and bitch about spending 100 Billion on health care. But somehow the Tali-Christians like Colburn have lost their way.

Here's my problem with all of this "No" business. The GOP said "No" to THEIR OWN BILL. The Democrats introduced a Republican bill with a Democratic sponsor, just to show how irrational the Republicans are.
CSpanAddict1982 1 year ago
@njcarlos1 "The HCR Bill is 100% Democrat, 0% Republican."
Again, GOP didn't want it to pass, so all No's, even if the bill was good they would have voted no.
"What's funny is Democrats couldn't even get their own party to vote along party lines."
Because it was a limping husk of what it should have been by voting time.
"Amazing you have yet to realize these facts... for over a month now?"
I'd been keeping up with the bill since day one and loved the original we had back when it started.

No is a Wonderful Word, yes it is.
Just say no. keep on forking your money into my pension account.
I like wery mutch thank you.
my pension fund owns shares of Blue Cross Blue Shield. it is not much but it pays for a few bottles of red wine each year.
Not bad when you are as I am, retired.
If them Americans better like to spend their money on my red wine than hospitals, who am I to complain. :-))

Democrats said no to Republican's TWO ideas for healthcare reform. They didn't seem to think "NO" was a wonderful word then.
nongo 2 years ago

MrHelldogger 2 years ago
@MrHelldogger "why won't they read it & let us know what it says."
Because all legislation is public record that you can find through research on your own. You can find it yourself like the rest of us. Laziness is no excuse for ignorance.
As for how "bad" the legislation is, the fact that you don't know what it says shows how well you would know. You only say it's bad because you were told it was bad, but if you read it, it's not. It's just missing some of the good parts of the 2008 proposal.

Oklahoma is #1!
Their football team may be mediocre this year, but they're number one on the goofiest, most pathetically wingnutty pair of senators list.
Can any other state come close to the wacky duo of Coburn and Inhofe?

I wish the side in power now, would say no to all the those agenda's the last pulled. BUT no, they run with them all, and create some more.

Quite a shame...it's the same state that gave us Woody Guthrie. And Wayne Coyne.
But this guy. And fucking Inhofe. Jesus.

The Senate is such an outmoded failure factory.
