@Tiny1bme I seriously doubt that ohkeepahblog was trying to mess with history or discredit Curtis Mayfield in any way shape or form. The members of Phish were influenced by LOTS of music from the 70's, they are certainly old enough, and it wouldn't be a stretch to say that Curtis is in that group. Phish has dedicated whole sets of their shows to bands from the 70's (Pink Floyd, Talking Heads to name a few). I see this funk as Phish paying homage to Curtis and the music in that decade.
Wrong music. They were dancing to Curtis Mayfield which sounds a lot better than this. Thanks for ruining the soul train line by changing the original music. That's an ugly tune you added. Why not leave the legendary soul train line and its music along. Go mess with the Osmonds videos they couldn't dance anyway.
after watching this I realize that all black people are really really skinny......or is it that Soul train does not allow non-skinny people on their show????
I love the fact you can take a song played by a band in 2010 (Phish), put to a video that was made in the 1970's (Soul Train), made famous by a movie in 1968 (2001: A Space Odyssey), was written by a guy in 1896 (Richard Strauss) which was inspired by a German philosopher (Friedrich Nietzsche) and some how it all works together beautifully. If you can't see the awesome in that then I feel sorry for you.
@SirSlimPickens wow that is cool i didnt know that... I remember learning about nietzsche in phil 201 but didn't realize all the influences he generated.... the world is truly small everything is interconnected in some way
@SirSlimPickens slim is right, it's called co-opting, for the polite. in twenty years people will believe this stuff is real. another example of wanting to be something that your not. in the end all people see is soul train dancers, who in fact influenced phish.
let's try it for real ... live, but we know how that would turn out. next time use woodstock footage.
@intelectualcatracho There were many people who were non black on the show! it was predominately black because back than there were no shows that had any black people in them. American Bandstand was WHITE! there were no black shows until soul train came around.
@intelectualcatracho Would it occur to you to ask the same question whenever you see a show with only white people (of which there are many)? Just a thought.
This is crap, no explaining can make it good. They weren't even dancing to this crap. Why don't you find some dancers who actually danced to this crap and leave the original along. That's what's wrong with the world, someone is always f'ing up something original because they have nothing original pitiful.
@Tiny1bme maybe thats why you don't get IT! You are too worried about preserving the "original". Music in the first place is a few original people and the millions who copy them. Phish is very original and fresh. They improvise like no other band in the world. You are just mad because Phish out sells Lil' Wayne, Jay-Z and Beyonce combined in concert tickets.
Put the original music back, no one wants to hear what you have playing. They were dancing the might Curtis Mayfield. This track you have playing is ugly. Stop messing up the orginal stuff with crap.
@Tiny1bme : Curits Mayfield is great, but this here is real old school funk, and i like it much more than million times heart curtis mayfield. This is early 70's funk and Curtis has his inspiration from that music, so if you call it crap and ugly you are stupid.
@hazakua seriously.. what boggles my mind is how someone cant get down with a groove regardless. im just thankful that there is a band out there getitng down like this today.. i mean, there is SO much garbage out there (miley beiber) how can this be criticized? oh well, at least the people dancing were ahead of their time..reminds me of the old schoolers in my band..just stubborn to their generation.
@Tiny1bme actually millions of people want to hear this music.. try not ot be too closed minded to get it.. and what is even better, is that many MUSICIANS on the level of curtis mayfield have played with and adored the band you are calling "ugly". i challange you to go see them rather then criticize something you dont know. the only question would be can you handle it? you would be floored. game over
@Tiny1bme Many could argue that the original was crap.To an older generation much of the music of the 60's and 70's wasn't exactly to their liking,or what they were used to big band, swing, or blues.Phish takes a little bit of everything and makes great music out of it. it may not be your cup of tea but as far as I know they sell out 50,000 person arenas and have held their own festivals that rival the population of Woodstock like John Lennon always said" let it be" Of course its not 4 every1
