Native Americans prefer to be called just that "Native Americans" not Indians. Indians are from India, not America. I myself am Native American, he's only 1/16 Native American.

I don't know if the 1/16 thing is the case or not. However, what I do know is that a lot of people with very little native blood are a whole lot more Indian than some fullbloods. Why is this? Because your ethnicity, your culture, is not an ascribed identity. It is something you are because you live as one, and because you identify as one.

As for the Native American vs. Indian thing, the two are interchangeable and while you may prefer one over the other, that's not the case for all indigenous people. I know many Lakota Sioux men and women who are perfectly happy to call themselves Indian.
