  • My doctor tells me to eat online popcorn and water and I will lose weight and I will be fine. He never told me anything I'd have to deal with. All of these years I thought it was because I was a bad person/lazy/mean/crazy and now that I know the symptoms, I feel jipped. I cant even sleep half the time from insomnia, which I found out can be linked to PCOS. I'm pissed!!

  • I completely disagree, I do not think fear appeal is the way to handle this at all. What needs to happen is doctors need to educate themselves about PCOS. Very few know anything about the condition and are flying blindly. We are smart women, PCOS does not make us stupid. Simply giving us the facts, including the health risks PCOS causes, AND providing us options (instead of lying to us, or popping us full of dangerous and useless medications) is all we need !

  • great glad to see people recognising emotions and way of life as being affected

  • Get tested for gluten intolerance and soy intolerance. Saliva test, very simple and there is a good possibility that you can turn this condition around.

  • I'm 25 and I suffer from:

    Lack of periods

    insomnia

    severe mood swings

    abdominal pain

    lack of ovulation

    weight gain

    thicknd uterin lining

and it looks like type 2 diabetes

i just hope i caught it early enough to prevent cancer. The only thing that finally got me to go to the Doctor was my husband bless his soul and the fact that we couldn't get pregnant.

  • for all the diagnosed very important: i have polycystic ovaries, and i do not know, maybe not every pcos is the same ( call me stupid for saying this ) but - i have absolutely no sympotoms that pcos causes Thank God for that , normal menstruation everything perfect, i have normal ovulation every month, and my doctor told me the cysts just grow and than like "explode" and run from the body with menstruation, my polycysti covaries do nto affect me in any way at all

  • Actually this does make sense, some woman develop more then the number of cysts that they need, they'll ovulate from normal ones, but they can and will produce cysts... now this does not actually mean they have what we think of as PCOS there are two different forms, there's the type of POCS caused by IR and that is the one that tends to look like what we see as PCOS the other isn't an endocrine problem at all, and there fore doesn't have the endocrine symptoms. All woman have some cysts.

  • Then you do not have PCOS, you just have cysts on your ovaries. The way that Gynae's diagnose PCOS is not by just having cysts (because in fact, some people with PCOS, do not even have cysts) but by 2/3 main symptoms for PCOS - Ammenorhea/irregular periods, Hirsutism and and acne, however slight.

  • if you have pcos then please visit w w w.pcosworldwidesupport.c o m

  • no these are not scare tactics, ther is a huge list of things that come along with PCOS its just that diffent ppl get different things from the list-for example i menstruate but have all the other depressing problems that come with PCOS-including insomnia

  • It's true. I just found out last Thursday (31st), I got polycystic ovary syndrome. Having the doctor tell me I may not be able to have kids maybe, tore me apart. =\

  • why does it bother you? We have many children out there just wanting to be adopted that we can give good homes too. So what if we didn't give birth to them, don't they deserve a chance too. I have PCOS and I haven't had a period since I was 15 and am 23 now and I quite frankly don't care about giving birth to a child I would much rather help a child that needs a good home.

  • @lisababy85 You know, some women want to have their own children AS WELL as adopt. You cannot tell a woman with PCOS, who wants nothing MORE than to have HER OWN CHILD, that she is selfish or that it's ok to have PCOS and that you should adopt. You can adopt, go for it, good for you, but my PCOS friends and I cry because we are trying to conceive and it's a hard fact to deal with. It's NOT fun.

  • @ashmarie88 I can understand that. I wasn't saying anyone was selfish. I was saying that there is another way of looking at it.

  • in response to "women live better and longer" i have PCOS for nearly a year and although its been treated my health has gotten worse and its caused infections that have spread throughout my body... it IS serious and dangerous and not something to take lightly... just remember some women get it worse than others. im forever in pain despite healthy living and medication. there are no scare tactics... this is real life. i thought it wasnt serious enough!

  • I can not find ANYTHING here that is even close to a "scare tactic", or "drama" in how it is presenting some basic facts and information about pcos.

Great job on spreading the word about PCOS.

  • To be brutally honest, this is fact-based. I'd be more than happy to attribute the facts to their sources. Based on research, it is now believed that PCOS affects closer to 15%.

Secondly, there's a practice in communication called fear appeal. Why not use a bit of scary info to compel action? If we sugarcoat it, what compels you to seek treatment? Lastly, with so many women with PCOS not realizing they are dealing with it, this gets their attention.

I honor your view, but I disagree.
