Thanks so much, one less chowderhead to worry about.
(...) I do definitely agree with your points as well - religion does hurt people and does prevent a lot of scientific advancements, and I believe that the religious ACTIONS should be stopped. There's a difference between the mere belief and the actions.
I'm not so sure christians would ever be able to spot the differences and just back down with their forceful ways, so perhaps the best thing is to just fight religion as a package, after all.
Perhaps I'm just weak when it comes to having opinions, but I agree with both of your points. I do think that the mere belief in a God or a God-like entity is entirely up to the individual person, and that making people think differently is wrong. I agree with you a lot, you're amazing, but aren't you doing the same thing as Christians; aren't you trying to convert them to your belief (or lack of belief)? What's inside someone's head should be their business, in my opinion (...)
Yes, 'what people believe' does hurt people. The belief, or rather, commandment, that thou shalt produce, consume and accumulate in order to remain part of the chosen tribe, hurts multitudes of people. The unemployed and the sick, for one. And the elderly. See what I did there? I didn't even have to mention 'religion'.
I agree. Religion can be a nuisance. Take for example the Western State Religion of the 21st century: ultra-capitalism combined with hyper-individualism. We don't need traditional religion (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism et al) to destroy western civilization. The current religion is well on its way to do that. Oh mighty buck, hallowed be thy name...
You said "We are going to fight for our rights." Natural rights do not exist. Power is what rules the world. If you have power to live the life you desire to live, you can live it, and if you do not have power to live the life you desire to live, you will not be able to live it. Rights have nothing to do with this. There are Social Construct Rights, but POWER has to enforce these. Life is Will to Power.
Really? You think religion is responsible for homophobia? Not that homophobia is the result of a natural human disposition to persecute people that don't fit into the norm? You really think that racism is going to disappear the second that religion disappears? Or that handicapped people won't be discriminated against? You really think that it is only religion that keeps sexism alive and well? That people won't find another way to justify forcing their moral sentiment on others?
@Everstruggling Do you think religion HELPS...? Do you think religion gives people the room to LOSE these ugly traits? Or does it reinforce it, backed by threats of eternal damnation?
Do you REALLY think religion ISN'T a major problem in these areas? Really? 8raised eyebrow*
@BionicDance I believe religion is a social construct that is being used to justify despicable behaviour. A personal belief in god is not religion. All religious people believe in the supernatural; not all people who believe in the supernatural have a religion. When a persona says, "What is wrong with me believing in god?" and you say, "Because religion is a dangerous menace" you haven't addressed their point because they don't believe in a religion, they believe in a god.
@Everstruggling The word 'religious' does not simply mean 'on behalf of a religion'. It's also interchangeable with 'stupidly dogmatic', the only difference being the positive or negative interpretation. Why not try and defend the belief besides saying "Well, it's none of your business what I do!"? Everything you so casually shrug off starts with belief in the supernatural, because, with it, you can justify doing anything. It's just another way to shift blame away from oneself.
@deathbydullcubicle "Everything you so casually shrug off..." I've been calling religious abuses "atrocities". "... starts with belief in the supernatural." You keep saying the same thing. If you have evidence that the atrocities (sorry to use so casual a term) committed in the name of religion are the direct result of religious belief, or that such atrocities would cease if religion ceased, please enlighten me.
@Everstruggling You call them atrocities, yet you find having a potentially harmful and dogmatic religion to be nonetheless defensible. How about the witch hunts? What of the needless mass mutilation of human genitalia? The biggest atrocity that would cease is the forsaking learning for the sake of convenience. Believing in a god does not encourage people to seek answers to the complex/unknown, but, rather, to be complacent. Again, I liken religious belief to dogma, in general.
@deathbydullcubicle You know the part in the video where "this girl" says, "I believe in god, okay?" And Kate says, "No it's kind of not okay..." You might notice that all I have been saying is that it is okay to believe in god. Please point out to me where I have defended any of the things you claim I have defended. Seriously, one post where I said, "potentially harmful dogmatic religion is defensible", or any closely related phrase. Go ahead, I'll wait.
@Everstruggling Said? No, you didn't. Implied? I thought you understood what implications were, but, to your credit, you slyly fooled me, once again. Your refusal to look at the bigger picture is why you're able to support ignorance and wait for answers to come to you, when you could almost as easily do your own research. I wonder why you even need me to convince you, when you could just look around your own neighbourhood and bask in the collective stupidity/disingenuousness.
@deathbydullcubicle Slyly fooled you? In other words: I remained consistent throughout my posts. I made no such implication. But perhaps I am mistaken, please show me where I implied that I was okay with "a potentially harmful and dogmatic religion". I have argued, and I am still arguing, that the evils justified in the name of religion are not the direct result of a belief in the supernatural or god. You have not even attempted to do so. Instead you have only pointed to the evils.
@Everstruggling I was hinting that the mere belief in a higher being/creator is an exercise of ignorance, and thus leaves the window of opportunity open to a decline into those various evils. It's an admittedly slow, though nonetheless veritable process. The likelihood is that theistic religions, in general, started with some conception of god (or gods) and then branched out into each their own various doctrines, not the other way around. There is no slippery slope; we've already reached it.
@deathbydullcubicle "You could just look around your own neighbourhood and bask in the collective stupidity/disingenuousness (of men)." "Theistic religions, in general, started with some conception (by men)." "You find having a potentially harmful (man) to be nonetheless defensible. "By (allowing a sex to exist) that oppresses people openly and notoriously, you are shrugging off the oppressors implicitly." "(Men are) is not neutral if (a man) advocates doing harm to people." See the problem?
@Everstruggling 'Everything you so casually shrug off starts with belief in the supernatural...' I meant to say dogmatic belief, in general. Additionally, if you're trying to account for the belief in a god that has an entirely passive role after supposedly 'designing' the universe, then it's wishful thinking until evidence says otherwise. Also, if you can, please don't muddle the issue down to, "Well, god can be whatever we want it to be!" because that's just... never mind.
@BionicDance Personally, I don't. You see, if religion never existed, not only would homphobia still exist, but people would look for reinforce it with other types of threats.
If they just believe, and they are legitimately just believing in their heads, by themselves, and support science, don't try to pass laws, and don't try to get special favors, then why the hell would you care?
Seriously, its only more likely to radicalize them because they'll feel attacked. If they're really a lay-theist, then cool. Remain that way or naturally find your way to atheism. Don't stoke a dying fire.
@cuttingedgecomix I'm 20, and I am very aware of religious oppression and I am against that, anyone with common sense could see that from my video, stop assuming things about me because I'm not exactly like you, this is annopreasion from your community. I wasn't pushing god in my video, and I wasn't talking about hating atheists you all get offended so easily and love to jump to judge me lol. Not that I reaaaalllly care that much
Dear sweet, Bionic, why do you bother with the young, naive and ignorantly brainwashed? Yer just as old as I am and this girl is what? 18? She has NO clue the oppression that religion has and continues to wrought on this world. Belief in faith will ALWAYS be about the ignorance of believing in a fake sounding story or deity with a total lack of evidence. Once someone says "I believe(in this nonsense)" then they've committed treason against themselves and betrayed logic and they're hopeless
I know what u mean, kiddo! I too am sick & tired of the same status quo of the gradual progress of science moving like a 3-toed sloth trying to walk 1 block to its desired destination! Keep up the fight! Liked!
I don't think it was a wise choice to dive on some young lady and pummeling her into the ground when she was basically saying "why can't everyone just get along?" even from her religious background.
The argument doesn't lie with these people. The argument lies with the people in power.
On the other hand, "If I believe someone's on the road to eternal torture, and she said no, it's OK, there is no Hades, I'd try to stop them and take them to my minister."
Like the comment I made this morning about persuading, not forcing, people to switch to compact fluorescent lightbulbs. All we can really do is persuade.
The point is irrelevant; you're replying to people in ways that won't actually get your reply to them; they will not be informed that you made it and your reply will not be attached to the post you're replying to. Use the 'Reply' button instead of posting an entirely new comment.
This is a really good one! One of your best! I'm with you on every point! (I hadn't heard the words "chowder head" in YEARS! I still like it ....and it fits!)
@TheGeckoNinja I don't think I'm popular. I. Just laughed at how funnynit was to go to sleep with 3 views and wake up with an entire world mad at me for being neutral and wishing for peace :) I am such a menace to society you know!
Unfortunately the "private" god doesn't actually work because the conviction to know the will of an allmighty being tends to be acompanied by an impulse to impose it on others. If it doesn't than all you are saying is that you want an imaginary friend to justify your decisions. Sry faceless, but you didn't think that through
This is quite a stimulating video and I'm currently uploading a video response. It's a bit long but sums up pretty much my entire perspective on the matter.
We need to let them rule over us with their abuses and pretend they do not exist just like they believe god does exist. One sided shit, let us mentally rape you... it is our religious freedom?
@BionicDance What you discussed were NOT my ideas. That is ALL what you missed lol. Anyway. I'm sleepy. I'm gonna go to sleep and plan my next vicous attack on society
Hello, @whyDoweMakeithard. It seems that your target is not only non-believers, but believers who want to "save" people who may have no interest in that kind of saving. If it were all about making persuasive arguments, that would be satisfactory. What is not satisfactory is going beyond arguments and into force. It's like: instead of ordering everyone to use CFL bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs, make the case for CFLs, and let us decide for ourselves.
@shackupyourstruly But the thing is sometimes when you do that people couldn't give a crap... when it comes to global warming like the example you're giving... if it were up to most people they wouldn't give a crap....Too many people don't even think it's happening. With the lightbulbs thing, if the government or authorities didn't start pushing the issue, then nothing will happen...I don't think u should necessarily do the same with religion, because each issue demands different thinking.
@BionicDance My video was about me and my opinion. I was thinking about me. You turned me into something different and toooooo many people agree with that. I've been receiving messages congratulating me and referring to you as a "twat" all night, which in don't agree with and I'd never call you that because I have a heart, god, I am such a menace to society!
@whyDoweMakeithard I didn't turn YOU into anything; I was discussing the ideas you were discussing, not YOU as a person. That's a large part of what you didn't understand.
@willquestion Don't let it hit you on the way out, kiddo. If you can't have a rational, reasonable discussion without engaging in vitriol and personal attacks, I don't WANT you here. *rolls eyes*
@BionicDance You now have no evidence for your argument as I, my mother, his father, his wife and many others like us have had no negative impact on this planet, no more then you have. You're arguments are tired and closed minded and are now going in circles
@whyDoweMakeithard It's pretty clear you haven't even understood my arguments. At all. Given your response video, you seem to think this is all about YOU. It's not. You haven't been understanding my position in the least, and I despair of explaining it to you at this point.
...find exactly what they are looking for. But his expertise with physics, math, and of course electrical engineering is SO affected by his deism right? Oh wait, they always get the job done, and help the researchers do there research in a timely manner.
@BionicDance You're gone too far in this video. I'm an atheist and I don't approve of you getting into my wife's business about her belief in god. It's not affecting anyone negatively, she doesn't even bring it up...but from what you're saying, if you found out she believes in god you would hound her for simply exercising her freedom of thought. Calm the hell down. Fight religion when it suppresses people's rights or negatively affects science, otherwise stop being so bossy.
@BionicDance So my wife who believes in evolution, the big bang, and not in souls...she simply is a deist...that's negatively effects science? How's that?
@willquestion By believing in something supernatural without evidence, you are engaging in irrational, unscientific thought which colors your interactions with the world, however subtly.
@BionicDance She's an agnostic theist. She leans toward there being a god but knows she could be wrong. She also believes we should let evidence lead us where it leads us, no matter whether toward there being a god or not. But from what you're saying, you can't even have that. You would get all up in her business for privately thinking there could be a god.
@BionicDance Well I'll pass this onto my wife and also my deist father who's in charge of the electrical engineering shop at Chemistry and Physics department at the University of Kentucky. I'll let him know too that his lean toward there might being a god is having problems with him making sure all the physicists do there research and further our scientific understanding. You see the shop he's in charge of makes equipment for research done when the researches can't (Continued)
@BionicDance Scoring points? You're prejudice and being a bully. Who the fuck am I trying to score points with huh? The only person I know who would ever even see this would probably be on your side. So quite dodging really responding this. How is my father's (an electrical engineer) and my wife (degree in math and wants to do research) beliefs who are deists, don't talk about religion, and believe sciencific evidence should lead where it leads are affecting others negatively?
@willquestion So you bring up scientists who ALSO happen to believe in mystical fairytale nonsense. Do you REALLY not see the problem, here? The contradiction? Do you REALLY think that belief in mystical mumbo-jumbo that has no basis in reality will cause ZERO harm, even if it's subtle? Nonsense beliefs can spread to others who'd go further with them. It all has a cascading effect, whether it's immediately visible or not.
And, YES, you're trying to score points; first two sentences show THAT.
@BionicDance Wow, I thought you were so cool until all this crap. You are actually ignorant on this. My father was the person who actually took me to see documentaries as child about space, had be go to Space Camp, pushed me to take more science and math than needed for my degree, and taught me tons of facts from quantum mechanics to geology. He only showed any thought of god only when I told him I'm an atheist.
@willquestion I'M the one who is ignorant? YOU'RE the one ignoring the point. YOU'RE the one not actually listening and just engaging in outrage. I'm done listening to you; if you cannot be reasonable, if all you can do is attack, there is really no point in this conversation. Maybe when you take the, "GAAAAHHHH, OUTRAAAAAGE!!!" down a few hundred notches we might actually be able to have a conversation. *rolls eyes*
@BionicDance I need to take it down a notch before saying anything? Do you think you're the only person who has the right to be angry and express yourself? If it isn't affecting my rational thought then what's the point? Hitchens got angry and said what he wanted, but kept it clear. You're saying that I'm not listening to you because you don't like what I'm saying. Don't you see other atheist agreeing with me on here. You're out a limb here.
@willquestion If you want a response, yes, you DO need to take it down several notches. Because right now you're trying to pick a fight instead of have a discussion. You're not listening because you're too busy trying to flip out rather than understand, trying to win instead of have a dialogue.
@BionicDance The guy would school you on science and the scientific method, but you can't handle him being agnostic but leaning a bit to the right where gives more hope in there being a god. You really think that's you're fucking business. He's not even affected in any way by religion crap. He's for gay marriage, for stem cell research, etc etc. But no, that doesn't matter.
@willquestion "GAAAAHHHH! OUTRAAAAAGE!" *rolls eyes* You're trying to make this personal, you're not listening to the overall message. You're a fool who isn't worth talking to.
soo, how is this girl believing in god comparable to jumping off a bridge? telling people god doesnt exist, is doing the same thing as trying to convert people to one certain religion. you dont know god doesnt exist. Religion has come a long way over the years, its progress. your also talking about how crappy people are to other people over what they believe, well, your doing the that to her.
You know, when I first started learning about atheism and what it means to be an atheist through channels like this, and a few others I particularly like, I had the same questions about why there was so much fighting between religious people and non-religious people. I've only really just begun to assert my own beliefs (or lack there of, I guess?) So it's nice to watch another video like this, even nicer than knowing there are still non-aggressive theists out there XD!
Here comes the part where you show that getting rid of religion per se will e.g. cure a whole bunch of social ills or be the end of simple-minded people who are completely ignorant of major scientific issues like the Bayesian-frequentist controversy or Hempel paradox (e.g. you).
Hey, BD, you might just be the next anti-theist to take over from Hitch. Most of us are prepared to accept people holding religious beliefs if those beliefs are held personally with no attempts made to foist those beliefs onto general society. But, you are rightly suspicious of people claiming simply a personal and not a societal belief. As Hitch said, "religion poisons everything", so we DO need those who will debate with the "nice" theists, as you do so competently. Cheers.
I agree with the girl in the video. Your beliefs shouldn't matter to other people. HOWEVER, that only works if people keep their beliefs to themselves and don't let them interfere with reality. Unfortunately that is completely against human nature and will never happen.
There are several documented cases in which 19thC Native American shamans (medicine men) convinced groups of warriors that they were bulletproof due to some mumbo-jumbo he'd said to the Great Spirit on their behalf, or a vision he'd had, or the special designs he had them paint on their ponies' flanks, or whatever. When many of them were predictably mowed down anyway, that shaman lost favor and was usually run out of the tribe. What can't that happen to preachers in our culture today?
So debating about an issue is not ok? I mean do we not have the right to express are non belief. It seems that only in religion is it not ok to ''fight about it''. Would you say that about someone's economic beliefs?
@BionicDance My point was that she seems to be saying that disagreeing is ok as long as you don't voice that disagreement because now your being mean.
If religious beliefs were truly harmless and people simply held them and did not engage in behaviors that have negative impacts on those it shouldn't, there would be no struggles over it. The problem is that there are too many who take actions based on those beliefs that are needlessly harmful to others so we have a conflict. If you have a belief and hold it harmless to others but see others who believe in the same and do, perhaps you should be outraged about that too, along with the victims.
@Tunnelfish2 This is true, however the Catholic church is not the only example of religion, and there are many things the Catholic church does, which are politically beneficial -such as the promotion of fetal rights. So the coin really does have two sides.
@JohananRaatz Well there are those who regard the "fetal rights" as anti-women's control over their own bodies so they wouldn't likely call it a political benefit. The pope's disapproval of condom use in the face of the soaring aids epidemic in Africa doesn't seem to show much compassion for suffering either. I strongly disagree with religion in any form interfering in our political process, especially since these groups enjoy tax-exempt status.
@Tunnelfish2 "regard the "fetal rights" as anti-women's"
Yes, but anti-fetal rights extremists like that are dangerous to fetal children. You'd need to have some kind of political check on them (perhaps religion) to protect fetal rights.
"interfering in our political"
But how can you correct the process when there are democratic failures without things such as religious and corporate influence?
"disapproval of condom"
Well that's why you need religion balanced out as well.
@JohananRaatz Nope I don't agree with your assertions that we need religion for anything, really. We are easily capable of being moral and of governing ourselves in a secular manner. I'm beginning to think you're a poe.
@Tunnelfish2 "We are easily capable of being moral and of governing ourselves in a secular manner."
Some of us can, but what about the kind of people I mentioned? Many neoconservative intellectuals of the Straussian breed, want to promote religion for precisely that reason -even if many of them are atheists themselves.
@AtheistTech im not a teenager haha i know i look young! i am actually 20. i am not going to take what she says to heart, she put a lot of words in my mouth.. and wasnt really combating me then more or less agreeing in some way, i to hate it when people push their beliefs... ive been in poli sci for 4 years now, ive been to the UN, and ive been on debate teams since high school.. i see no challenge here, nor was that my intention! but thank you very much :)

I don't think it was a wise choice to dive on some young lady and pummeling her into the ground when she was basically saying "why can't everyone just get along?" even from her religious background.
The argument doesn't lie with these people. The argument lies with the people in power.

Unfortunately the "private" god doesn't actually work because the conviction to know the will of an allmighty being tends to be acompanied by an impulse to impose it on others. Hello, @whyDoweMakeithard. It seems that your target is not only non-believers, but believers who want to "save" people who may have no interest in that kind of saving. If it were all about making persuasive arguments, that would be satisfactory. What is not satisfactory is going beyond arguments and into force. It's like: instead of ordering everyone to use CFL bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs, make the case for CFLs, and let us decide for ourselves.
shackupyourstruly 2 months ago
@shackupyourstruly But the thing is sometimes when you do that people couldn't give a crap... when it comes to global warming like the example you're giving... if it were up to most people they wouldn't give a crap....Too many people don't even think it's happening. With the lightbulbs thing, if the government or authorities didn't start pushing the issue, then nothing will happen...I don't think u should necessarily do the same with religion, because each issue demands different thinking.

willquestion 2 months ago
@BionicDance You're gone too far in this video. I'm an atheist and I don't approve of you getting into my wife's business about her belief in god. It's not affecting anyone negatively, she doesn't even bring it up...but from what you're saying, if you found out she believes in god you would hound her for simply exercising her freedom of thought. Calm the hell down. Fight religion when it suppresses people's rights or negatively affects science, otherwise stop being so bossy.
willquestion 2 months ago
@willquestion Religion ALWAYS negatively impacts science, kiddo. By its very nature, that's EXACTLY what it does.
BionicDance 2 months ago
@BionicDance So my wife who believes in evolution, the big bang, and not in souls...she simply is a deist...that's negatively effects science? How's that?
willquestion 2 months ago
@willquestion By believing in something supernatural without evidence, you are engaging in irrational, unscientific thought which colors your interactions with the world, however subtly.
BionicDance 2 months ago

You see the shop he's in charge of makes equipment for research done when the researches can't (Continued)
willquestion 2 months ago
@willquestion Yeah, see? Like I said...you're just trying to score points instead of understand. *rolls eyes*
BionicDance 2 months ago
@BionicDance Scoring points? You're prejudice and being a bully. Who the fuck am I trying to score points with huh? The only person I know who would ever even see this would probably be on your side. So quite dodging really responding this. How is my father's (an electrical engineer) and my wife (degree in math and wants to do research) beliefs who are deists, don't talk about religion, and believe sciencific evidence should lead where it leads are affecting others negatively?
willquestion 2 months ago
@willquestion So you bring up scientists who ALSO happen to believe in mystical fairytale nonsense. Do you REALLY not see the problem, here? The contradiction? Do you REALLY think that belief in mystical mumbo-jumbo that has no basis in reality will cause ZERO harm, even if it's subtle? Nonsense beliefs can spread to others who'd go further with them. It all has a cascading effect, whether it's immediately visible or not.
And, YES, you're trying to score points; first two sentences show THAT.
BionicDance 2 months ago
@BionicDance Wow, I thought you were so cool until all this crap. You are actually ignorant on this. My father was the person who actually took me to see documentaries as child about space, had be go to Space Camp, pushed me to take more science and math than needed for my degree, and taught me tons of facts from quantum mechanics to geology. He only showed any thought of god only when I told him I'm an atheist.
willquestion 2 months ago
@willquestion I'M the one who is ignorant? YOU'RE the one ignoring the point. YOU'RE the one not actually listening and just engaging in outrage. I'm done listening to you; if you cannot be reasonable, if all you can do is attack, there is really no point in this conversation. Maybe when you take the, "GAAAAHHHH, OUTRAAAAAGE!!!" down a few hundred notches we might actually be able to have a conversation. *rolls eyes*
BionicDance 2 months ago
@BionicDance I need to take it down a notch before saying anything? Do you think you're the only person who has the right to be angry and express yourself? If it isn't affecting my rational thought then what's the point? Hitchens got angry and said what he wanted, but kept it clear. You're saying that I'm not listening to you because you don't like what I'm saying. Don't you see other atheist agreeing with me on here. You're out a limb here.
willquestion 2 months ago
@willquestion If you want a response, yes, you DO need to take it down several notches. Because right now you're trying to pick a fight instead of have a discussion. You're not listening because you're too busy trying to flip out rather than understand, trying to win instead of have a dialogue.
And I'm not interested.
BionicDance 2 months ago
@BionicDance The guy would school you on science and the scientific method, but you can't handle him being agnostic but leaning a bit to the right where gives more hope in there being a god. You really think that's you're fucking business. He's not even affected in any way by religion crap. He's for gay marriage, for stem cell research, etc etc. But no, that doesn't matter.
willquestion 2 months ago

You know, when I first started learning about atheism and what it means to be an atheist through channels like this, and a few others I particularly like, I had the same questions about why there was so much fighting between religious people and non-religious people. I've only really just begun to assert my own beliefs (or lack there of, I guess?) So it's nice to watch another video like this, even nicer than knowing there are still non-aggressive theists out there XD!
Koriyuchan 2 months ago
Here comes the part where you show that getting rid of religion per se will e.g. cure a whole bunch of social ills or be the end of simple-minded people who are completely ignorant of major scientific issues like the Bayesian-frequentist controversy or Hempel paradox (e.g. you).
odenskrigare 2 months ago
Hey, BD, you might just be the next anti-theist to take over from Hitch. Most of us are prepared to accept people holding religious beliefs if those beliefs are held personally with no attempts made to foist those beliefs onto general society. But, you are rightly suspicious of people claiming simply a personal and not a societal belief. As Hitch said, "religion poisons everything", so we DO need those who will debate with the "nice" theists, as you do so competently. Cheers.

50zcarsman 2 months ago

If religious beliefs were truly harmless and people simply held them and did not engage in behaviors that have negative impacts on those it shouldn't, there would be no struggles over it. The problem is that there are too many who take actions based on those beliefs that are needlessly harmful to others so we have a conflict. If you have a belief and hold it harmless to others but see others who believe in the same and do, perhaps you should be outraged about that too, along with the victims.
Tunnelfish2 2 months ago
@Tunnelfish2 This is true, however the Catholic church is not the only example of religion, and there are many things the Catholic church does, which are politically beneficial -such as the promotion of fetal rights. So the coin really does have two sides.
JohananRaatz 2 months ago
@JohananRaatz Well there are those who regard the "fetal rights" as anti-women's control over their own bodies so they wouldn't likely call it a political benefit. The pope's disapproval of condom use in the face of the soaring aids epidemic in Africa doesn't seem to show much compassion for suffering either. I strongly disagree with religion in any form interfering in our political process, especially since these groups enjoy tax-exempt status.
Tunnelfish2 2 months ago
@Tunnelfish2 "regard the "fetal rights" as anti-women's"
Yes, but anti-fetal rights extremists like that are dangerous to fetal children. You'd need to have some kind of political check on them (perhaps religion) to protect fetal rights.
"interfering in our political"
But how can you correct the process when there are democratic failures without things such as religious and corporate influence?
"disapproval of condom"
Well that's why you need religion balanced out as well.
JohananRaatz 2 months ago
@JohananRaatz Nope I don't agree with your assertions that we need religion for anything, really. We are easily capable of being moral and of governing ourselves in a secular manner. I'm beginning to think you're a poe.
