Urlacher would certainly not be expecting someone to execute a simple drop toe hold or some other trick to put him down, he would be thinking about throwing haymakers, going for a KO. most people simply don't have the knowledge to adapt to a completely different fighting style than expected, let alone doing it in 30 seconds or less.

There's no amount of size that can make up the force conveyed by proper body mechanics, no to mention simple physics and the strength training of football players means this guy wouldn't have a third of the punch Bas is used to taking for round after round. @cyberhmoob very true, but there's a major difference between a world class athlete who trains with Jay Glazer using some MMA techniques to translate to the football field or any other sport and a world class MMA fighter who trains for world class combat.
It's the same as if Bas did ran through some football drills and tried blocking Brian in a game situation. OH and the reason Brian is good at his job is because his D-line does a good job of keeping the O-line off him.

@cyberhmoob yes and Bas spent a big chunk of his life street fighting and bar fighting in Holland. Brian goes around the same weight as Bas at 240. Also if Brian used tackling technique it wouldn't be smart considering it leaves the neck exsposed for a choke. if he goes face to chest there's a broken nose and a smother choke aswell. I love football but it doesn't translate at all to fighting technique. specially against a world class fighter.

@cyberhmoob Bas Rutten started out as a Street Fighting Brawler. He is used to fighting dirty, and in places with hazards such as hard walls. And he has taken out larger and tougher guys than Urlacher, I love Urlacher, but Bas Rutten would destroy Urlacher and then Urlacher would be cut from the Bears for breaking contract by getting into a fight that could hinder his career.

@cyberhmoob When you are an internationally renown MMA fighter, you have the right to underestimate people (when it comes to fighting).
Size doesn't really matter. Most defensive lineman would probably get dropped in one hit from Bas, simply because they have so much weight going in that direction after they get their head knocked. The dude creates 3x the amount of force needed to cause a concussion with a straight right.

@coolman1831 Anything can happen between strong big guys who can hit is what I was simply saying. There are freak KO's and it's pretty common amongst big strong athletes in any sport. Bas is a tough guy and I don't want to cut him down beyond recognition but we all know it that he's still an old guy now and at his age he is far past his prime. I am sure many people much younger with todays MMA skills and strength of youth can take him down.

Bas would know how to handle someone who is physically bigger than him, take him down, get him on his back and pound away. Urlacher would certainly not be expecting someone to execute a simple drop toe hold or some other trick to put him down, he would be thinking about throwing haymakers, going for a KO. most people simply don't have the knowledge to adapt to a completely different fighting style than expected, let alone doing it in 30 seconds or less.

There's no amount of size that can make up the force conveyed by proper body mechanics, no to mention simple physics and the strength training of football players means this guy wouldn't have a third of the punch Bas is used to taking for round after round. Most pro NFL players vs. a fighter like Bas Rutten would be hurtly badly and instantly.

However, that does not completely erase that fact that Urlacher has size, reach, fitness, & flat out youth on his side. Saying experience means nothing would be idiotic & I'm not saying that. I'm saying that upsets do exist. I'm saying that IN MY OPINION Bas would not put Urlacher on his ass in "less than a minute" as so many people seem to think.

He could have been & yes, that would only add to the disadvantage. But any fighter knows that factors like size, reach, fitness, etc DO make an impact no matter how big or small the impact may be.
