reasons they can pluck: left alone with no mental stimulation. You try sitting in a small cage all day and night and no one talking to you and see how fast you want to pull your hair out.
Disease, or they could end up with itching
Just does it: like little kids and taking off their clothing, it's a form of control.
Don't worry. I have a cockatiel that plucks. We got her from an animal shelter, and her previous people had not treated her right. And she's plucked since before we got her. But she's a little sweetheart, and we love her. :)
Oh! I dont want to impose. But if you could make a video of "good night" that would be awesome! also getting that information would be great to. (though you dont have to) I would love to teach my bird aswell. He has learned that poking out his head will cause ME to say "peek-a-boo" though he just talks like a normal lovebird does. Great Video (5 star from me!
Thats fun! how did you get him to make the sound? Did you just repeat "peek-a-boo" constantly? I lovebird that loves to chill in my shirt (and sleep there) but that is really neat!
I'm not sure. It's my cousin's bird, I'll have to find out. But he does peek-a-boo with himself when he's alone and trying to fall asleep. He'll do that or "good night". LOL
hey i got a parrot its alomost been about 2 months i have it how do i bring it out? do u need to cut its wings ? cuse we leave the door apen and it just flyes and stayes on the light the whole day. and if we cut its wings iam afaired its gonna get mad or sad
Man you shouldn't have brought a parrot if you know so little about them.
Of course you bring them out, you have to bring them out every day and it's best to let them roam free 'round the house, after two months of ownershp I don't think he needs his wings cut, no doubt it trusts you by now, but get it a leg-ring, it's a bird's equivelent of a microchip.
BTW they need lots of time, company and toys, and need to bathe, and fruit and nuts, many clueless owners feed them leaves and get a sick bird
if i were you i would join a parrot forum where you can learn as much as you can about your bird and in order to clip it's wings i would take it to the vet for that especially if he doesn't let you pick him up yet
My blue crown is pulling feathers out really bad. I feel so bad. Maybe I am not spending enough time with her?! She was so happy 3 years ago when I got her... so sweet. Now she does not like to be held and she bites and pulls feathers out.
Mine does the climbing in and out of my shirt all the time and also is missing a patch of feathers like yours. I had to collar him because he was biting out blood feathers and bleeding, not he has a full tail while he was tailless.
my bird dose that too!

Aw why is he a plucker =(

The original owner before my cousin had him left him alone a lot. And that's what he did to himself. Sad, I know.

My love-bird, Kirby does the same thing.
He calls in my shirt & he comes out through the sleeves, or, through the front & he just sits there.

why is he missing so many feathers on his back... ;[

He plucks them out. She's tried to do something to stop him, but he won't. There's multiple reasons why birds pluck their feathers.

She says "peek a boo" to the bird, and it repeats her. But nowadays, it's a habit for him to play peek a boo even by himself.
