Pity there's no fully orchestrated version of this song, that would be great (like the other two orchestrated versions of the overworld theme and extinction theme, which is called there "sorrow")
Played this song in the background while doing a presentation on the origin of life in school. Wish I could've presented my horned tuna with the dorsal fin of a shark as well.
Imagine what a fish should feel when night comes his way in the depths of the ocean. He would prefer to be fished and to be sold in a can. They feel depressed and we don't care but about how they taste.
Well, it could be translated a few different ways ("4億5千万年への旅立ち" is the track name from the synth arranged album); either "450 Million-Year Journey" or "Journey of Year 450 Million". As far as I know, there wasn't an official OST for the actual music from the game, so I can't verify it's the only title for the song, but I know it's at least the title Sugiyama picked for the arrangement. Either way, it's still "the theme of snacking on jellyfish" to me ;p.
My favorite part of the game.

As silly as this sounds, this song kept popping up in my head when I played the first stage in Spore, where you play as a cell creature.
I think this music would've made that level even more epic :)

Beautiful. I wouldn't mind this playing the entire game.
Having absolutely no bass in it, except for the intro, makes it that much more enchanting.
I wish the dinosaur phase music was a bit less 'funky', though it kinda fits with the campy-ness of that phase.

This song is so lonely, haunting, and desolate...much like the ocean back then must have been like for early life.
Love the harp arpeggios.

Always liked this theme; great atmosphere and a great way to start off the game.
The track title from the soundtrack is "The 450 Million Year Journey (Chapter 1 Field)" by Koichi Sugiyama (aka the Dragon Quest guy).
ChobinHood 3 years ago
I thought it was called "Birthplace of all Life", at least that's what it says for me for when I got it from a direct rip from the game.
But it is Koichi Sugiyama who did all of the game's music :)

Love this game.
Kinda went downhill at the mammal stage, but that's probably because of my frustration with the yeti family.
