Ahh, the wonderful shortcuts that Obsidian and Bethesda took to make the engine in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I believe you could also pickpocket someone like that, and plant a grenade, blowing them up while nowhere near the one you planted it in.

this seems to happen with goo and ash piles as seen as they don't seem to disappear but when the entity that is the ash pile or goo pile re spawns the goo or ash pile is still linked to there ash pile it is actually amazing for putting grenade in pockets I have 3 goo piles linked to the super mutant s near rivet city so to kill them all I do is duck and put a grenade in each goo pile then wait for the explosions to end then loot the goo piles
