Is she fucking retarded...the "apparent" Rogers phone clearly said "fido" fido runs on the 1700 gsm band while bell is on a 850/1900 gsm band network, you can't fairly compare phones of two different radio frequencies, with my experiences with Rogers and bell they both rip you off but Rogers is faster...anyway fuck Rogers and bell, wind and kodoo all the way!
@Sukunai uh, no...wind uses it's own towers unless it's outside a homezone, koodo uses telus towers, in manitoba they use mts towers, i live in manitoba.
Well Rogers does have an HSPA+ network that runs at 22mps, up to recently it was only in the major area's, like GTA, GCA, GVA. It looks like they've expanded it to cover almost their entire existing network. How many users on the network does make a different, but so does distance from a tower, obstructions, and interference.
Rogers does have dedicated Voice and Data channels, 850mhz for voice and 1900mhz for Data. Still, from my experience. Bellus seems to be much faster on the data side.
when only Rogers had the iphone, it didn't care about it's expensive plans n people's satisfaction. After Rogers knew iphone was going to be available at Bell, it started to be nice with people to be competitive.
Theologist is a confused and embarrased Rogers PR wannabe. He gets caught up in a bizzarre technical jargen and "forgets" to browse for other clips showing better tests. Like the one called "iPhone goes from Rogers to Bell Mobility." Attention all Rogers VPs and sales reps on this thread, get back to work!
@Theologist For anyone that may have questioned my information and sources previously, please note that Saskatchewan's HSPA network did in fact launch in Q3 of this year.
Manitoba has coverage through Bell only as a result of an agreement they made with Manitoba Telecom to use their HSPA towers. This is also the reason that Telus does not currently provide HSPA coverage in Manitoba, as it struck no such deal with MTS and neither company have any towers set up, though they do own spectrum there
@danielkeogh but you have to pay to run off the rogers towers, now if the phone is not running off those towers it could be slower. telus and bell on the same towers but one will be faster
SOrry to break your bubble people, but Bell (and Telus) just built a $3 billion upgrade, putting 3G network all over Canada. Roger's 3G network is a lot smaller than the one Bell built. The video is showing Bell's 3G network vs Roger's non-3G network though, so that is the reason for speed difference.
@dinomite99 That's not true. I work in Telecom. The problem with Bell/Telus's network is that they didn't build a new network the way you'd imagine. Their tower setup was designed around 50km range towers (CDMA) and were retrofitted with HSDPA towers which have a range of closer to 30km. So what actually happens is that there is less blanket coverage, meaning more dropped calls switching between towers, and also less coverage in higher density areas. Also lack of GSM/Edge/2G coverage.
You are using 3g for Rogers Phone and 3GS for Bell , sooo !!! Dont lie and people , and go work in your position at Bell sweetie , Stupid .... Do you think the people are stupid !!!!??? Rogers , has the most Reliable Network and its confirmed . Sooo ciao ciao
I signed up to Rogers because it said it was "3x the speed" not "3x the speed provided you're standing in Dundas Square at 3am Sundays." Why not truth in advertising: "Rogers, 50% of the speed for 100% cost." Now give me a rebate Rogers and I may forgive you.
My belief is this...Network speeds are quite nebulous depending on a variety of factors. Possibly the girl doing this test is being compensated by Bell (or is an employee), using a rigged Iphone and/or is doing the test in an area known for low Rogers bandwidth. I don't believe this test is definitive.
Bell is NOT faster trust me people bell is fucken brual they have the shittiest network in canada do not i repeat do not go with bell. I have a palm pre on bell the network is so shit and unreliable i get ping time outs all the time when im tethering.
I'm going to post my comparison a 3gs iphone on rogers and a palm pre on bell...
Hey Theologist, put the bottle of whisky down and take your medication. Its just a cell phone. Why don't you try talking your way out of the "iPhone goes from Rogers to Bell Mobility" video posted in "Related Videos?"
I work in this field and misrepresentation bothers me. I haven't looked at other videos on the topic. I came across this one, and commented. I did my part. I proved my point. I'm done.
Here's how you know the Bell is a 3GS, and the Fido one is 3G. The battery % indicator. It was a standard set feature in OS 3.0+ All iPhone 3GS's came with 3.0+ That phone is running a Pre-3.0 OS, and is therefore an iPhone 3G, not a 3GS.
The 3G iPhone ONLY RUNS ON 3.6MBPS HSPA. The 3GS iPhone runs at 7.2MBPS.
@Theologist "here's how you know the Bell is a 3GS, and the Fido one is 3G. The battery % indicator. It was a standard set feature in OS 3.0+ All iPhone 3GS's came with 3.0+ That phone is running a Pre-3.0 OS, and is therefore an iPhone 3G, not a 3GS."
LOL. You know the battery % indicator is NOT enabled by default on the 4.0+ firmware. How do I know? I just reflashed my 3GS to iOS 4 and it doesnt have the % indicator on by default and even if it did, maybe she turned it off.
I appreciate that you believe what you say is fact; However, what you're talking about has nothing to do with what I said. iPhones that came pre-installed with the 3.0 OS at the time of this video (ie. all iPhone 3GS devices) had the % indicator showing.
I've owned every iPhone model and currently own an iPad. I have 2 iPhone's at this time. I've done plenty of testing, and I can send you my many screenshots of 6mbps download speeds and 2.8mbps upload speeds on Rogers.
@Zollaganzi No I meant that you need to look at how long it takes the iPhone to open a new tab on the Fido one, due to the slower 400mhz processor on the iPhone 3G. That has nothing to do with network speed. It has to do with the processor. It was just another point backing up my statement of the Fido unit being an iPhone 3G running a 3.6mbps hsdpa chip, whereas the Bell iPhone was a 3GS model with a 7.2mbps chip.
Ok guys, it as been proven, the new HSPA+ Network from Bell is faster than Rogers HSPA+ that by the way covers only a few main cities, Bell Covers 93% of the population. So Bell right now is THE way to go, I sense Rogers will lose a lot of customers because they abuse they're monopole for the international calling.
Wow. Rogers defends the results by saying they deliberately sandbag Fido customers with less coverage?!? Man, that is nuts. I guess since Im a Rogers customer rather than a Fido one Im better off but still. So if Fido is deliberately throttling down speeds by 50%, should Fido customers pay half the price? Not cool guys.
You guys are stupid. Bell is faster because a) the iPhone is on fido, not Rogers. Secondly...bell has maybe 10 users in that area when the testing was done, and Rogers has hundreds if not thousands. Wait till the bell network gets populated and you'll see.
Also, Rogers in Calgary is slower than in Toronto or Vancouver. I hit over 4mbps when travelling there.
iPhone 3gs only had a 7.2mbps hspa chip. Running it on an hspa+ network means nothing.
I did the same test in brampton with my friend's Roger's 3GS head to head with an identical Bell 3GS and got similar results! Both had a fully charged battery, and full reception on 3G. She was floored by the results! The new Bell-us HSPA network ROCKS!!!!!
The 3G isn't getting maxed out here so I'm not sure it matters. It could make a big difference for the picture download though. There's a few other videos on SIM swapping for an iPHone where the HSPA network clocks much faster (done on an iPHone 3GS).
I really don't understand something...since all of you know that Bell network is the new, the most advanced (fiber optic) and largest...then why you didn't switch to Bell till now???
If you expected the exact same service and coverage from a Value Brand, then what would the premium brand have to offer? Why even run it?
Fido is for cheapo's who want something that's good, but doesn't have to be 'the best.' That's the same as Telus's Koodo, and Bell's Solo & Virgin Mobile.
However, Solo/Virgin/Koodo are rebrandings of the same network. Rogers actually bought out Fido which was a different company with its own towers, and still operates it that way.
that's incorrect. Both Bell and Rogers (and Telus) are on the new HSPA+ network, capable of doing up to 21mbps. The difference (from the 2 being compared) seems to be because the Bell 3GS can do 7.2mbps and the Rogers3G can only do 3.6mbps or so. Realistically though, no phone in both their lineups can make use of the 21mbps yet. Only their internet sticks.
Uhmm...actually Rogers launched their HSPA+ Network before Bell and Telus. HSPA+ has a base theoretical rate of 21mbps, and can be expanded up to 48mbps.
The problem, however, is that the equipment must be able to make use of the network. The iPhone 3G has a chip capable of connecting at HSPA speeds of 3.6mbps (this is the 8gb model bell/telus are selling). The iPhone 3GS has a chip capable of connecting at 7.2mbps (current 16gb/32gb models).
Bell has an independent voice and data line for their towers. Rogers has one that carries voice and data, and priority is given to voice. The Telus/Bell network will always beat Rogers. Right from the beginning, Telus/Bell have more coverage than Rogers.
Of course its faster, only 1% of the Bell network is being utilized...run this test one year from now, will a fully populated network..i highly doubt the "identical" networks would yield the same results
Bell will always be faster, because the number of people using their network does not slow them down. However, Rogers speed and network is based on the number of people using it. So Rogers, is well, shit.
The reason is because the new bell network simply isnt under the same stress the rogers network is under. Theres prolly only about 1000 people on bells new network in toronto which=faster speeds.

The reason is because the new bell network simply isnt under the same stress the rogers network is under. Theres prolly only about 1000 people on bells new network in toronto which=faster speeds.
