I still love to see performance comparisons made by professionals on track. And it's clear that the 09 R1 is the fastest overall, but it always depends on the tracks of course because each track favors different bike settings. But that is track talk....

Yeah, I've heard that the R1 was the least powerful of all 4, although it still managed to be the fastest in corners because of better traction provided by the firing of each piston which never happens simultaneously, unlike in typical flat plane cranks

Sort of the firing is more linear which does help with traction which is fantastic however the articles I read post production all the traction doesn't help if the honda and kawy and zook are all three pulling out of the corner harder than you. They are all pretty damn even...I am a kawy fan (shocking?) but I have to admit honda jumped ahead of the pack this year

Yeah, I think I was wrong to say the Yamaha is the fastest as I've based my opinion in modified racing bikes from the WSBK or BSB. But a really good test would have to include several different tracks with control tires, and also with manufacturer-recommended tires.

Actually, the sound depends of the time sparks happends, you could make a L2 sounds like a Vtwin, and that also modify the torque and power, but honda engines makes horrible noise (for my ears).

I didn't know that. And I've also learned some time ago that what makes the new R1 great is it's greater traction exiting out of corners, which is was supposedly improved by changing the rhythm of the cylinders. That's what I was told :)

Honda is actually my favorite. I actually own the 08 Fireblade and if I could trade it for any bike now I would still get the 09 abs Fireblade, not because of performance but because I think Honda's quality in materials and construction is the best. And, regarding performance, I think that unless one is a professional and only rides at the track, one will have a difficult time to tell the difference in performance between either a Honda, a Yamaha, a Suzuki or a Kawasaki or a Ducati, etc

Whether you value the looks, the quality feel, the service in your area, etc. For me, where I live, there would be no better service than Honda's which has by far the largest presence in assistance here. Also, when I look at a Honda or sit on one I get a very positive feeling about all the bike's parts both in looks and feel to touch, which also happens with BMW or Ducati and few others, but not with Yama, Suzi or Kawa and others

Superstock rules are restrictive. No modifications to Valves, seats, fuel injectors& carbs apart from filters. ECU can mod. Must use stock pistons, cylinders, cranks, rods, gears. Clutch plates can be changed but must be the same number as stock. The sprockets and chain can be changed. Exhaust systems can be changed. The bike can be 14 kg lighter than stock. The headlights, mirrors, blinkers and tailight must be removed. The stock speedo and tacho can be removed. Tyres are control Pirellis.

These kinds of tests have been done many times, and it's shown that cars and bikes are fairly evenly matched when picking the top of the lines for each. Both have specific advantaged over the other, and it's ultimately down to the rider/driver skill levels.
