Does anybody knows which is the music that plays in the very first episode, when Ash and Pikachu become friends, and Ash holds Pikachu in his arms and Pikachu licks him? It's my favorite, and I can't seem to find it!
A week ago, after having not heard this song for months, I suddenly started thinking about this tune in class. I knew it was a Pokemon song, but I couldn't figure out which one or find it anywhere. Finally I've found it!

And I still do, despite my misfortune, Pokemon is like a long time friend to me, that I can never forget. It taught me things, that some people these days lack to show today. I just want to say thank you Pokemon, and the wonderful people who helped create it.
@scampynoXD All of the Pokemon anime soundtrack is composed by Shinji Mayazaki. However , the non-japanese versions have replaced some of his music by music made by 4kids or Pokemon Company USA.
(A example of this is Episode 19, where Misty convinces the Tentacruel not to destroy a city. In the japanse version "Tears after the cloudy weather" is playing, but in the english version they replaced it with a song made by 4kids' sound department)
My childhood best friend forgot about this.. or, he moved on. I may have lost him to the currents of time, but I'm still here, the same as ever. And I will never forget this show. <3
Brock: The best place for this Stantler is back with its herd. It really wants its mother... and I guess that's a feeling anybody can understand.
Misty: I think you CAN sense what's in a Pokemon's heart, Brock. Cause you've got a pretty good one yourself.
I think that was one of the sweetest things Misty ever said to anybody... and that's probably why "The Little Big Horn" was one of my favorite episodes. <3 <3 <3
@kirby401 That's way too limiting. Rather, let's give a moment to all the pokemon who were lost to movings from homes, or just plain losing the cartridges. We all know that has happened to us.
@GCdotTK The complaints of Togepi went to far for them, so they put Piplup in to replace... This is even worse. Can't they see they liked togepi for it's cute, unEGGspecting, and care-free nature and not the fact it said it's cute little "togitrroi!" every 5-10 minutes?
I look back at the old episodes and see Ash mouthing to Misty to shut up about Caterpie and Ash laughing at Misty after Brock gets Vulpix and Ash losing Togepi and making a bad pun out of it AND JAMES' MAGIC BOOT OF EVOLUTION!
@13gamerbullet Piplup didn't break anything though. It was always annoying, proud and didn't really change anything about itself or its trainer except becoming more grating overtime due to how fucking annoying it was. Togepi on the other hand turned fiery Misty into a much more calm motherly Misty by Johto, and most people liked Misty because she would shit on and fight with Ash all the time.
@13gamerbullet Piplup wasn't meant to be a Togepi replacement. It's not a baby Pokemon. It just displays a lot of traits that are common for its species, at least that's what the Pokedex tells us.
It bares more similarities with Pikachu, as both were initially disobedient til very similar situations happened between them and their trainers and have shown great disdain for evolving.
@GCdotTK Also, guns doesn't make anything mature. It's not like they'd ever matter to us as they would be censored regardless. Developing storylines with actual character progression and following rules of time, growth and realism is what this show needs. Pikachu resets every region. Ash becomes a blubbering idiot about mechanics he learned in the past and forever will remain 10. Old characters are forgotten about.
Too bad the anime is a marketing ploy. If only it was more like the manga.
@GCdotTK Rose-colored glasses my friend. I like to play along with the whole GARY MOTHERFUCKING OAK thing as well, but he was kind of a shitty rival. We hardly seen him at all and all he did was make snide remarks about Ash and have extremely rare 1v1 battles with him til their eventual bullshit league match. There was much more moral conflict with Paul due to their philosophies. Gary/Ash was just childish.
I find it hard to watch DP dubbed, but keeping up with the show, it's definitely matured.
@vaiyt Why? Because he steals and has daddy issues? The physical similarities and attitude between the two fit in nicely with the GSC remakes in fourth gen.

It was because the guy was frickin' cruel. He mocked Jasmine's concern about Ampharos' health and said she should leave it to die. He belittled just about everyone he met. When defeated, he blamed it all on his Pokémon. He was a bastard like nobody in the games before or since. And he was sinister to the point his first battle pose looks like a Hitler salute.
@vaiyt He is canonically Giovanni's son in the games, which is why he always displays such disdain for TR throughout the initial story. You only see this through an event though, so I can understand why it doesn't concern you/you don't know.
The anime itself is watered down everything. It's nice to see an animated portrayal, but that's about it. So, no, it's not going to have oh so edgy jerkasses like Silver running amok, but Paul wasn't that bad.
The men and women who got together to create Pokemon have no idea what they did. They didnt just create a game or a television series. They created childhood memories; memories no one will ever forget. We learned things from Pokemon. We learned about friendship, perseverance, and bravery. It taught us that everyone can make a difference. Thank you Pokemon. :)
@MrAfroPanda lol I keep seeing comments like this. but pretty much. I look at the new pokemon and it's so animu and gay. theres no emotion. or anything to it.
@rnevex In the new series they have less Team Rocket, and it kinda sucks... hardcore. I mean, c'mon, we all know that in old Pokemon they actually used good music, taught lessons, and had actual, true, original, the greatest of them all, Pokemon. I say up to the end of the Hoenn region is when it started going downhill. Then after Sinnoh, it seems like they reset Ash's journey in Unova, which is kind of upsetting. Stupid new Pokemon anime style :(
@iJaredCookiez Team Rocket annoyed the hell out of me always showing up in every episode, going for ash's pikachu... but then watching the new episodes, I see team rocket and get sad that they are actually acting like real Team Rocket members...
At least meowth still is kind of himself in a way at some points....

If I ever went out to war/my boyfriend or husband did and one of us were deemed dead but it wasn't true and me or he returned home, I'd want this to play when we would be reunited.

@GCdotTK Tell me about it. There was this one period when cartoon network was showing the old pokemon series and i was like "Wow, these are sooo much better than the new ones." Everything about the first pokemon series was better. The characters, plot, and overall episodes were better. Even the movie was better. The new pokemon movies, i fall asleep during them. The first series will always hold a beautiful place in my heart.
I miss the times when Ash would get either burnt to the crisp by Charizard or electrocuted by Pikachu to the point that his Pokedex never runs out of batteries. But I wonder, out of all the times this happened to Ash, how did he not blast off like Team Rocket does when they experience a full blast?
@GCdotTK Do you realize that ever since those episodes went away, Pokemon finally stopped recieving lawsuits, changing appearances and titles, and banning episodes, and that Nintendo has created more Pokemon ideas than ever because they had none of the distractions they used to?

I can't find the courage to tell myself that pokemon is changing..... I cling to the original show like a frightened child clings to their parents. I..... try...... I really do, but it's just hard. I can't tell myself that one day I'll have to grow up....... I'll try to grow up, I'll try really hard, but I won't be able to let go of pokemon. This will always be a part of me.....

@fatstick1147 There's nothing wrong with the "newer" episodes. People are just being nostalgic and getting mad because it's not the same show they saw in 1998. So that means it sucks or something.
As someone who's seen a good chunk of episodes from every saga, the low point of the show is easily the Johto saga. Horribly boring fillers, where Ash and co. get no character development whatsoever, the bastardization of Misty's character (thanks, Togepi!), and the whole GS ball fiasco. Terrible.
@Caniki Actually, I disagree with that. I personally think the 'low point' of the show was the Orange Islands. I can't help but think THAT WHOLE STORY-ARC was nothing but a filler while they were deciding what to do with the Johto region. Johto was probably my second-favorite region (a close second to Kanto!), because while there were some annoying filler episodes, there were also episodes that did a good job with Brock's character development. See "Little Big Horn", for example.
@Caniki I disagree. Johto was awesome! I enjoyed all 3 seasons of Johto! :3 Even the filler episodes that most people find boring, are FUN for me to watch. <3
@Caniki I bet you visit serebii's anime forums. The only thing people do there is defend DP saga, which is awful and can't be compared to any other season.

@Caniki They need to get back Veronica Taylor, Eric Stuart, and Rachel Lillis. The show is not the same without them. And they need to hire David Rolfe again. HE WAS THE BEST FOR THE THEME SONGS!! Seasons 4-8. Also, if they could get Jason Paige again, that would be awesome. Or Billy Crawford.
@RockinThoseKeys4Life Rachel Lillis did come back. She voiced Maylene in DP66. But Jessie is still being voiced by Michele Knotz, so even if Eric Stuart (which he wouldn't since he doesn't live in New York anymore) or Veronica Taylor came back, they wouldn't get their characters back.

@fatstick1147 Hoenn is fine. :) The only reason why people dislike Hoenn is because Misty leaves at the end of Master Quest (season 5). Personally, I enjoyed Hoenn, because I like May and Max. ^^
But Sinnoh..that's like a completely different show. Watching the D/P seasons is definitely not the same as the old seasons, trust me. It lacks the feeling of nostalgia, because the characters have new voices. So new voices = no familiarity. D:

Shorter attention spans, a larger female audience, running short on ideas, new writing and production staff, the internet, competition with Bakugan and Yu-Gi-Oh, all of these probably had a role in the decline of the Pokemon Anime.
@cutter14 Yu-Gi-Oh isnt much competition anymore, luckily pokemon was able to at least get through the 2nd Gen before the decline but Yu-Gi-Oh plummeted after the original series ended. Personally I think that the Hoenn episodes were still good and its the 4th Gen episodes that are killing the series. But a lot of other people would disagree with me.
I sold my Pokemon Red and Gold games a week go :) :/ ;(

This is the real Pokemon, guys. The orignal Pokemon, with about 150 Pokemon, with chance of ACTUALLY catching em all.

@rnevex In the new series they have less Team Rocket, and it kinda sucks... hardcore. I mean, c'mon, we all know that in old Pokemon they actually used good music, taught lessons, and had actual, true, original, the greatest of them all, Pokemon. I say up to the end of the Hoenn region is when it started going downhill. Then after Sinnoh, it seems like they reset Ash's journey in Unova, which is kind of upsetting. Stupid new Pokemon anime style :(

Pikachu-At first, electricuting everyone who touched him.

@GCdotTK Tell me about it. There was this one period when cartoon network was showing the old pokemon series and i was like "Wow, these are sooo much better than the new ones." Everything about the first pokemon series was better. The characters, plot, and overall episodes were better. Even the movie was better. The new pokemon movies, i fall asleep during them. The first series will always hold a beautiful place in my heart.

I miss the times when Ash would get either burnt to the crisp by Charizard or electrocuted by Pikachu to the point that his Pokedex never runs out of batteries. But I wonder, out of all the times this happened to Ash, how did he not blast off like Team Rocket does when they experience a full blast?

@fatstick1147 There's nothing wrong with the "newer" episodes. People are just being nostalgic and getting mad because it's not the same show they saw in 1998. So that means it sucks or something.
As someone who's seen a good chunk of episodes from every saga, the low point of the show is easily the Johto saga. Horribly boring fillers, where Ash and co. get no character development whatsoever, the bastardization of Misty's character (thanks, Togepi!), and the whole GS ball fiasco. Terrible.

@Caniki Actually, I disagree with that. I personally think the 'low point' of the show was the Orange Islands. I can't help but think THAT WHOLE STORY-ARC was nothing but a filler while they were deciding what to do with the Johto region. Johto was probably my second-favorite region (a close second to Kanto!), because while there were some annoying filler episodes, there were also episodes that did a good job with Brock's character development. See "Little Big Horn", for example.

As for the theme songs, they're all pretty unremarkable synthesizer fests imo.
The writing staff has always been the same. Since, you know, this show is from Japan.

@Caniki They need to get back Veronica Taylor, Eric Stuart, and Rachel Lillis. The show is not the same without them. And they need to hire David Rolfe again. HE WAS THE BEST FOR THE THEME SONGS!! Seasons 4-8. Also, if they could get Jason Paige again, that would be awesome. Or Billy Crawford.

@RockinThoseKeys4Life Rachel Lillis did come back. She voiced Maylene in DP66. But Jessie is still being voiced by Michele Knotz, so even if Eric Stuart (which he wouldn't since he doesn't live in New York anymore) or Veronica Taylor came back, they wouldn't get their characters back.

@fatstick1147 Hoenn is fine. :) The only reason why people dislike Hoenn is because Misty leaves at the end of Master Quest (season 5). Personally, I enjoyed Hoenn, because I like May and Max. ^^
But Sinnoh..that's like a completely different show. Watching the D/P seasons is definitely not the same as the old seasons, trust me. It lacks the feeling of nostalgia, because the characters have new voices. So new voices = no familiarity. D:

Shorter attention spans, a larger female audience, running short on ideas, new writing and production staff, the internet, competition with Bakugan and Yu-Gi-Oh, all of these probably had a role in the decline of the Pokemon Anime.

@cutter14 Yu-Gi-Oh isnt much competition anymore, luckily pokemon was able to at least get through the 2nd Gen before the decline but Yu-Gi-Oh plummeted after the original series ended. Personally I think that the Hoenn episodes were still good and its the 4th Gen episodes that are killing the series. But a lot of other people would disagree with me.
