@goddamnsexybitch It's called drum sound replacement. It's used extensively in a lot of recordings both professional and independent. The live recorded drums are used to trigger samples. This is used because not only is recording live drums extremely costly (especially for an unsigned band's EP) but also to blend with the original signal to give to a desired sound. Plenty of metal and hardcore releases use this technique. I'd advise actually learning a little something about production.

And again, cost is an issue and not many unsigned bands have bags of disposable income so it may be desirable to use triggers rather than a poorly recorded kit. I did mention blending with the original signal. Nothing wrong with using quality samples. But it's all down to personal taste.
