This is what happens when EC is inspired one given night. His playing climbs to the Stratocasterphere when sparring with another great one on the same stage, like Winwood, Beck or the new apprentices like Doyle Bramhall II, Trucks, Mayer or Bonamassa (not in order of importance). Double good!
Anyone who denies Clapton's abilities should watch this, it's incredible. Excellent example of his perfect sense of timing, phrasing, and almost effortless playing. There are many great players, but Eric puts it together like no one else.
I've been watching and listening to the great man for years and he just keeps getting better and better- how good could he have been if he stayed drug free and drink free right through the 60,s and 70,s. Clapton is untouchable in modern music.
That is one heck of a very large video screen at a concert. They should all be that large, and even larger if they can make them larger. What a great performance. It's amazing, just electrifying-ly so.
I get the chills every time when I listen to this. Never get sick and tired of this particular performance. One of many live greats of Eric's Double Trouble (Otis Rush). Eric's voice, guitar ability, and soul is out of this world. I love his voice, particular favorites, studio: August, Reptile, and Back Home. He is like fine wine as he ages he gets better and better. I love it when a musician can make cover songs their own. Clapton is God!
Saw him in March with Daltry. Perfectly flawless playing all evening. Solos bring me to the edge of chills. Everytime. No other guitarist on earth does that to me.
Clapton is still the man after all these year! Yes, there may be even more "techinical" players in the the world, but in my opinion NO ONE else can play with this kind of feeling and pasion!!! He's the ultimate BLUES MAN!
YES, there is a DVD and Blue Ray version(I highly recommend if you have sourround sound) this will blow your speakers and the version of "Voodo Chile" on the same concert. Trust me after hearing both versions you will have another outlook for Clapton..ENJOY..
Clapton is right handed, the guy who filmed this was behind the screen (lucky guy). I have this on Blue Ray and the TONE is sick - it will pierce your walls. ..you should also check the version of Voodo Child of this tour...OMG...No question Clapton is GOD.
I was shivering through that. I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck and the hairs on my arms standing on end. That is seriously unexplainable. That is FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!
...This was.. even better than when I saw it live. I mean, that was amazing, but this was...other worldly. God, this is why I picked up the guitar and dedicated myself to learning the blues.
Also, I love how you can tell the guy shooting the video plays guitar because of the details he notices. Like the fingerpicking, and the repeated lick during the super solo, lol.
So emotional and intense, the first time I heard this I had to wonder if he had something bothering him, and was taking it out on the guitar!! This is officially one of my three favorite solos from E.C. along with the original "Crossroads" and "Old Love" acoustic from Mtv Unplugged.
I have this on Blue Ray and it is SICK, the tone he gets out of that guitar and Tweed AMPs is Amazing... a must have. Check out Vooodo Chile on the same concert.....
I saw him here in Hollywood Florida on May 2008 and he was just as incredible. Unfortunately I did have a camera to document that evening.Thank you for posting.
ok i can put an end to the righty/lefty thing as i was sitting right next to the guy who was filming this video. clapton is a righty. my friend (the guy who posted this vid) and i were seated somewhat behind the stage at madison square garden. the large screens are duel sided and projected from the front, thus inverting the picture if looked at from behind.
I don't think that it has anything to do with the screen, because when you see him from the side he still plays lefty. you can also see this when all of clepton is in the picture. beside there's no reason why the screen should be reversed
I'm not sure if you're kidding or not but I don't want you to think less of him but he's not playing lefty here. the guy filming is on the backside of the screen so it looks backwards. Clapton is still god though!
simply outstanding!! im through bein blown away by this man, jesus christ couldn do better himself!!theres only one god eric clapton! soory if i sound saccreligous, but i cant think of any words to decribe how good this man is any more!
This is incredible and inspirational! I hope I can still play like that when I'm 63.
Check out at 5:29 when he seems to hit an off-note. I can't tell, but it's as if he loses his grip on the string when he's bending it. You can kind of tell from his reaction, too. But he just goes on and plays the note he was going to hit -- he isn't fazed a bit. I could be wrong, but listen carefully at that point.
This has gone to be one of his best guitar solos of all time (both of them). I thought the version from Just one Night was one of his top 3 guitar solos ever until I heard this version. Incredible. Hope he plays like this when I see him at Hyde Park next month!
I was at this show on 2-28, sitting in almost the exact same spot on the other side of the stage, and the back of the screens are indeed reversed from the front! Argh! But, I've followed Clapton since Cream, and this is the BEST I've seen him play and perhaps the best concert I have ever been at!! I was literally in tears during this song and thank goodness there is such a great video of it from virtually the same perspective I saw it from.
i wasn't there but maybe the screen was slightly transparent so the image could be viewed on both sides? unfortunately this means that one side of the audience got to see the proper image, whilst the other saw what we see here, the reverse. maybe.
