  • Thanks for the video it was a big help!

  • I really appreciate you posting the video. I was able to reload my trimmer with no problems after watching. :) Thanks!

  • Great video and very helpful, thank you!

  • Thanks for posting this. I feel like a total doofus for admitting this, but for years, I've used a single-line trimmer and today I purchased a two-line trimmer, and was really unsure how to replace the line. Thanks again.

  • Thanx that helped :)

  • Great video, very helpful! I almost feel confident to string the trimmer but I'm still having some issues! Perhaps you could help??

My spool has two arrows pointing in different directions. It says "wind cord" in the middle with "RH" on the left and an arrow pointing left and "LH" on the right with an arrow pointing right. It's a two-line so does this mean the right hand line goes anti-clockwise and left hand line goes clockwise? Thanks for the vid! I'll get there in the end! :)

  • AH HA! After cutting my ankles up a bit from flying line, I now know that the 2 lines have to string the SAME DIRECTION!

Thank you! (You saved me a trip to Lowes to ask too.)

  • This is great, but how do you get the trimmer head off of the trimmer itself? Thanks.

  • @zodon2 you should not have to take the head off to replace the line, like shown in the video.

  • Thank you! Exactly what we needed! :)

  • ive never been so frustrated at an inanimate object

  • Um... I was hoping that this would cover mine, its a 2000 echo and the spool has two holes that sit inside the spool that looks almost triangular in shape facing the same way you would wind the line around the spool. I have threaded through one hole about 12 feed of line, folded in half, held spool top with left hand and wound around the spool with my right away from me. I have ruined one spool within 5 years, the other is fine but concerned that I am doing it wrong, thoughts?

  • No, a knot is not necessary to keep the line in place. The spool is designed to hold onto the line.

Keep in mind trimmer line is nylon. As it whizzes around at several thousand RPM's, it is taking quite a beating on the grass ( and other solid objects) it comes in contact with.

  • haha I'm back a year later as my line has broken off, literally, inch by inch, to a mere 20 cm. I'm wondering why it's made to wear out so quickly? Also, when I feed the two lines through the holes, do I need to tie a knot to keep it inside the mechanism? Thanks for your response!

  • Oh, YouTube... is there ANYTHING you can't teach me?

  • i love the ad which popped up at the start of this video: "buy fake grass". goddamn i might just do that, saves me worrying about a stupid line trimmer!!

  • Thank you. You've solved the mystery for me!

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • Hi my dad loved this vid. keep it up!!

  • How come when I string our string trimmer, the nylon points downward?

  • lol i need some help ASAP.. the line broke off my weedcutter.. same as those. im woundering how much that lil line will cost. its my landlords cutter. lol i wanna know how much its gonna cost to fix. he gonna get pissed lol. plzz. reply back. btw. im in canada.. im thinkin walmart..or canaiantire. but im lookin at price? thxx

  • @mynameisdad123

No worries - the trimmer line is made to wear out quickly, and it often breaks off during use.

Replacement line should cost about $10 -$15. Make sure you purchase the right size (diameter).

    Good luck!

  • @mynameisdad123

I got 50 yards of replacement line yesterday, at Home Depot, for $2.99. I've owned my trimmer for 3 years, and this is the first time I've had to replace the line.

  • When you say "two equal length of lines", does that mean two separate lines??

  • @ritarded Yes - it means 2 separate lines. Most trimmers use 2 lines to help balance the head as it turns.

  • @niftymower Thanks a lot!

  • Aha, not quite the same as my strimmer but very useful, thanks.

  • Thank you! Very helpful, and saved me an embarrassing trip to Ace!

  • the important bit, the correct direction to wind was not mentioned. It can vary depending on the direction the trimmer rotates..

now I have to go elsewhere..perhaps a Tuesdat fix cn be applied..otherwise a well presented vid.

    Jp

  • @johnpro2

    Hi John

The direction the line should be wound is indicated by the arrow on the spool.

    Thanks

  • LOL !!! I see my old comments in here.,.. I had to browse youtube again to find out how to change the line again since last year and I was glad to find your video once again...

I guess I will have to save it in my favorites for next year ;)

    Thanks

  • Great video. Very well narrated and demonstrated. From a guy who hates yard work at the best of times, not being able to thread this damn string was nearly enough to toss in the towel. Now, I'm back in business. Thanks.

  • Very nice video.

  • Thanks for your helpful instructions. We had spent ages trying to thread the line on our new trimmer, but you clearly showed us the way to do it and we got it done first try. Thank you!

  • you are extremely clear with your instructions. My lawn and I thank you

  • What do you think about just removing the guard and putting a skill saw blade on the trimmer? You wouldn't have to change it and it should last a good while.

  • Great video! This is the easiest guide I've ever seen. Much appreciated.

  • Thanks muchly for the video! So much easier than trying to make sense of the instructions listed in the manual.

For people outside the United States: .08, .095 and 0.65 inches are: 2.0mm, 2.4mm and 1.7mm respectively (Would be good if you put the metric conversions as annotations in the video)

    Also 15 - 25 feet = 4.5 - 7.6 meters. (e.g. my manual asks for "two pieces of line approximately 2.7 m long.")

  • OH MY GOODNESS!!! I can't believe how simple it was. I feel like a fool! I have been fighting with this thing for 2 days. Arghh! THANKS SO MUCH!

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude! you saved me a trip to the landscape store. You rule!

  • Thanks, Very Helpful

  • well made and very useful, thanks

A++++ video,p.s do u know where i can download manuals for my strimmer?

  • Hi Scotty,

Glad we could be of service. I do not know of a good source to download manuals. Sorry.

  • Thanks! This was very well done and very helpful!

  • Thanks... I was able to change mine because of your video
