  • And what can I do if don't go to the gym, will I yet the same results ?

  • @PIROMANIACO12300

I'd seriously recommend joining a gym. All of the top bodybuilders train at a gym. Getting yourself a gym membership is one of the best investments you can make in your overall health and fitness.

  • How many sets do u do of this?

  • @Guru4Evaa

3-4 sets will be plenty. This is a very intense way of doing calve raises.

  • Was that your entire calf workout or do you do that burnout routine a couple more times?

  • @Holyarms

I've got a good calve video that you should watch, just search for: "The Best Calve Exercises For Building Big Muscular Calves"

  • Awesome COWS!!!!

  • Stretching claves on the way down could cause injury

  • @boxingisart

Any form of weight training or exercise could cause injury. But you can minimize the risk by warming up properly and lifting within your means.

  • Somebody always say to me how do you get big calves I only say I was born like this some guys don't need to workout

  • Tell me please you are kidding! I

  • I've never tried it that way but I hope it helps my skinny calves.

  • totally wrong what he is doing

  • @leon6266

I'll tell you what, you post up a video of your calves and I'll post a video of my calves... Then we can let the viewers decide who's right and who's wrong :-)

  • @leemhayward is there an exercise to specifically work ur inner calfs

  • @Shift4chizzle

You can experiment with different foot positions, wider stance, toes in, toes out, etc. and see if you can fee your inner calves working more. But for me I just focus on taking a medium width stance, toes straight, and strive to build the entire calve bigger. I don't even try to isolate the inner or outer heads.

  • @leemhayward i do everything like i do the straight ones until i cant do anymore which is usually around 100-200 reps, and then i wait like 20 seconds then i put my toes together and do it then i wait 20 seconds then put my heals together. i can tell the strength of my muscles is good but i am genetically unlucky cos they never grow lol

  • I want those calves.....

  • You should have had your calves showing... That's what I was waiting for. >:x

  • how many sets do you do like this?

  • @dokterkarel

I like to perform 1-2 lighter warm up sets and then 3 heavier working sets done in this fashion.

  • hey I have really skinny calves probably 1/3 or yours. I was wondering how can I make them grow? If i do this would they grow wider and longer? or what do you recommend?

  • @caB4RS

I recommend you follow the type of training I explained in this video to build up your calves...

  • @leemhayward this is going to be a little painful. I have Flat feet

  • Does anyone know of any "exaggerated" calf exercies that can be done at home

  • Hey thanks for the tips!

I love training calves although my calves suck haha! So I just have a question, my gym doesn't have the seated calf raise machine. So would I still get good results from doing donkey calf press, or standing calf raise like this?

  • @Fruddle123

    Do standing calve raises instead.

  • SONG NAME PLEASE AT THE BGGINING..AWESOME TRACK

  • why are your calves that small? arent you a bodybuilder or something?

  • nice lifting shoes

  • He looks like buff Steve-O

  • Holy crap. My calves feel like they're on fire from doing this :)

  • @attwood93 start stretching as many times a week as you can, its gonna lessen cramps by a million times i promise. stretch before during and after your workout, plus its great for your muscle, more room for more blood but stretching too far and too much, is horrible for you. just like the training, use technique

  • TAP 6 REALLY FAST LOL

  • Thanks Lee, I do my farmers walk for my grip strength, but I add in the raised calve because I only carry about 40 pounds anyway. I realy wanted to hear from you about how to build your inner and outer calves muscles. Is there a diference or are leg raises the most wildy used exercise ? Thank you for responding so quickly Lee. I am following your facbook pic's with your NEW Camaro. What a beast of a car... just like it's owner. Talk to you soon Lee... Herc. PS/ I ment 40 punds on each arm...

  • Afternoon Lee, I have been working my outer calves muscles by standing and placeing my heels touching and toes flared out ( like a piguine ). For my inner calves muscles I reverse it, my toes touch and my heels flare out ( like pigone toed ). again standing. I also do farmers walk while raising up on my toes as I walk. I also do one arm dumbell raises for both side. I have been complimented on my calves, but what do you think on my clave exercises... Talk to You Soon... Herc.

  • @hercrivera

Personally I don't try to combine moves very much (i.e. farmers walk with a calve raise, etc.). I think you'd probably be better off just focusing on one thing at a time.

  • holy crap lee!! your calves are freaking huge!! X(

i am a "have not" genetically big calfe person and my calves are very stubborn :/

and the thing is that i dont just work out for fun and want to have an even porportioned body. i want to be a professional bodybuilder so i reeeeaaaally need to build my calves and they are definetally too small compared to the rest of my body. my upper legs are getting there since i didnt work out my legs when i first started to work out but my calves arnt :/

  • Hey Lee how many reps/sets/exercises should I do for them?

  • @gh4pwner

I'd strive to do 4-5 sets of calve raises like this. 5-10 full reps and finish off with 10-20 mini pumping reps.

  • Hi Lee, two questions ....

    1. are seated calf raises crucial for building claves becuase my gym doesnt have one ?

    2. sometimes when training calves i get some sort of cramp feeling in the sole of my foot at the top of the contraction, could this be due to placing of my foot ?

    Thanks.

  • @Attwood93 dont know if this helps but i use a leg press machine and put the seat to the furthest away setting. then put your feet on the bottom of the plate. i think its a fairly similar movement.

  • @samblunt93 i do standing calf raise and leg press raise 2-3 times a week and they wont grow cos i get the cramp feeling before my calves begin to fatigue :/

  • atg squats also work them, but nothing like slow up to the top reps with lots of sets and little rest in calf machines

  • Thank you so much Mr. Hayward. Much respect.

  • ON HOLIDAY!

  • your calves from the size and shape of the head of my penis

  • Green day Holiday at 4:30 lol

  • Is there a difference between sitting and standing calf raises?

  • @mandaromi

Seated tends to work more of the outer head of the calve. Standing works more of the overall calve and generally allows for heavier weights to be lifted.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the vid. My sport through early years was swimming, which while giving me great upper body strength means I have bloody scrawny legs! Hopefully I can try to turn that around...

  • Hey lee, how many times a week should i work on my calves??

  • @BOSS20s

If they are a stubborn muscle group you can work them 2-3 times per week.

  • How long will i have to do this until my calves get bigger?

  • @gabrielle33511

It's going to vary for everyone. But generally with regular training you should see strength gains on a weekly basis and that should in turn allow you to see actual physical changes on a monthly basis.

  • Steve-O on roids!!!

  • Great Video! :) I have 1 question, how many sets would you complete of these, if in your actual work out at the end counted as 1 set ?

  • @emura009

I'd do 3 sets like this after warming up the calves with lighter weights.

  • would wall sits help to get big calves?

  • hey Lee, is it a good idea to hit my calves first when am fresh on days where i train bodyparts like chest, arms or shoulders that dont require any lower body involvement?

  • @Alive4Metal

You can, especially if you want to do extra calve work to speed up growth.

  • I wear six inch heels when duin calf raises lol

  • I've doing the last month or so and i've added a couple inches. thanks for the vid

  • Do your claves grow by getting stronger in your major lifts like squats, deadlifting, and bench?

  • @davedud7

Not to a great degree, you need direct calve work to build big calves.

  • @leemhayward okay thanks Lee

  • great vid bro, thank you lee

  • Unique exercises that i don't see in the gym... I'ma incorporate this to my calf workout.

The unique exercises i have in my arsenal are. Decline triceps pulldown's and Isometric hold calf raises, followed by a burn out half range of motion calf raises.

    Thank you.

  • nice baby cows lee

  • can someone please tell me whats the damn secret to have big and strong calves? i work out everyday and my arms, chest, back, and legs are great, but my calves are still skinny. :(

  • How do I get thinner calves?

I have big calves from genetics like this guy but they're too big for my taste.

  • @TheHaloChief117 really you cant its hard to lose muscle fast and you use calves for almost everything just stop training them if you workout imo

  • @TheHaloChief117 hahaha make them look normal by building the rest of your body, i dont tknow howd you make them smaller

  • Do you recommend this technique also for Standing Calf Raises ???

  • Isn't the seated one mostly for M. Soleus?

  • Very true about the shoes, the chucks are nice for this type of workout because you can make those arch motions, when with normal running shoes you coudn't.

Looks like a good workout. ima do

  • how many sets of this do you recommend in a session?

  • how many sets of this do you recommend in a session?

  • i've never seen bigger calves. Oh wait chuck norris calves make this guys calves look like chicken legs.

  • haaha you shave your legs!

  • what does holding the wieght at the bottom part of the lift do?

  • @sportalien27 increases negative resistance, which aids tremendously in muscle building

  • It should be noted that seated calves hit the soleus primarily, and that the ideal calf routine includes these as well as calf work with full knee extension (like standing calf raises). Full RoM does help immensely though.

  • Lee - good stuff, man.

  • Looks good.

At the same time, almost no gym in my town has a sitting calf raise machine, only the standing ones/leg press. aRGRHG#%@

  • GAH! there's no sound :(

  • I gotta try that. Lee helps yet again!

  • I agree that holding the Calf raise at the top gives you a lot better calf workout. I use a little bit different technique using the Hammer Strength standing shrug machine. I turn around so that I am facing the machine. Then after loading up 300-400 lbs, I lift the weight, perform the first portion of the calf raise standing on my toes, and then hold it at the top and complete a nice slow shrug before setting my feet back down.(5sets of 10 reps). This gives me an unbelievable pump!!

  • How important do you think shoes are in training calves? I often train with running shoes or cross trainers but never flat soled shoes like this...

  • For lifting flat shoes like Chuck Taylors are awesome. You don't want an arch or soft cushion soles like running shoes. Flat soles are best for giving you a solid base for lifting.

  • @leemhayward I prefer bare footed!

  • one thing u all need to know that you all should have the proper machines to exercise. even heyward can't have good calves if he hasn't got some. so it depends on how much good equipments u have IN UR GYM.

  • great techniques!

  • Hey Lee do you bother to work the anterior tibialis by doing reverse calf raises? Just wondering if not balancing the calf, soleus and anterior tibialis out would cause some sort of imbalance.

  • the anterior tibialis separates the inside from the outside, so it will make your calf look bigger.. for me i would say is important to do both. thats my opinion.

  • after I work out my calves one gets super pumped and the other is only slightly pumped and smaller. But they both get sore.

Any advice anyone. should I do just the small calve, or double the work ?????

I am still new to calves

  • "one-leg movement".

first make sure to know which part of your calf is week

so if lower calf - do seated raises

if upper calf - do standing raises

inside of calf - do with toes pointed in (and vice versa for outside calf)

if you feel that one calf is smaller, add two extra sets for the smaller one after every calf exercise.

ex. if you do 4 sets of standing raises, finish them 4 and keep going with 2 extra for the smaller one.

    and hopefully this would work.

  • yes i think that calves are genetics.....cause i got one of the biggest most cut calves in my city (calves like pro body builders) with just running and walking evry day.....may dad has also huge calves he cant pu hes pant easly when it comes to calves i swear lol....sure it has somthing with genetics if you think somthing else plz inform us :)

  • calves are all genetic

  • noooooo....

  • Hey Lee, Great Video, does that whole workout, workout the whole calf muscle group?

  • @trickster The seated variation puts most focus on the soleus and standing on the Gastrocnemius. So you should so both in either order to correctly balance calfs.

  • how can you build bigger calves at home with no machines.. I do calf raises but Im not seeing a lot of results

  • You think this could work but standing using a smith machine, but standing on a hing wood plank or stack of some of those rubber plates? My place has no seates raises.

  • somebody call P.I.T.A !! hes obviously been abusing those calfs!..

  • @vlvtrabbit thats soo gay

  • @alexsmeels Im sorry im NOt gay so Im not a specialist on homosexuality such as yourself, furthermore..what the hell are you doing reading a comment I made 10 months ago...perhaps another gay trait Im unfamilar with?..good luck with all that and please remember to use protection we dont need any more alexmeels running around outside of San francisco...

  • jesus, your calves are bigger then my head.

  • @SUBSCRIEB thats big

  • yeh my gym is shit, and doesnt have that

  • Wow, never thought of doing it 10 seconds each stance, i usually just do that till they burn and i cant do anymore, Thanks Lee!

  • excellent video lee. i like how you showed your real work out. makes for excellent viewing :)

  • Nic e work Lee.

But, do you have any suggestions for the home gym guy trying to do standing calf raises on a block?

  • Same idea, you'll just have to hold a pair of dumbbells (depending on your strength). But when holding the position for 10 seconds like this, balance becomes an issue when doing calf raises the way you want to do them. You can also do seated raises at home. Sit on the edge of a chair or couch with your toes on that same block you're using (or you may need a taller one to get the stretch). Then just put a dumbbell on top of each thigh (hold it in place with your hands) and do the same exercise.

  • nice calf workout, but too bad my gym doesnt have that machine.

  • thanks lee for great calves fraining tips.

  • Huge calves and cool tip.

  • thanks for the tips keep it up

  • those aren't Calves, those are cows....thanks for the tip..
