Oh good lord all of you fucked up people who get on these vids and bitch that bob should have done this or that can go fuck themselves!! He was there not for political gain but to entertain the troops! the man was a great person!
I was right there watching that show. Some of the crew ate in one of the mess halls near the Frontier Chapel on the main drag on the army base. I was one of the Chaplains in the 124th Transportation Command and my office was in the Frontier Chapel.Bob had a great show with Joey Hetherington, Barbara MacNair and Rachel Welch. I was about ten feet away from her when she arrived in a jeep. She was absolutely gorgeous. I was stationed there 1967-1968 .
If Bob Hope had a real concern for the troops then he would have been petitioning president-elect Nixon to work with LBJ to negotiate a ceasefire and send the troops home..... These US troops were given an impossible job and they never should have been sent in to intervene in a failed French colonial war.
God Bless all you fellow Vet's, they tarred you as crazy in the 1970's and now they are trying to paint us as extremist's today. We'll get through it all and be a band of brothers. Thanks Mr Hope and God bless you in heaven and God bless all the people associated with the USO for staying tough with the military when your countrymen would think otherwise.
My dear brother Gordon Jack Marsh served in Cam Rahn Bay. He once told me the story of rigging up a boat and sailing around...only to find that the tide had carried them to the enemy side and he had to sneak back to the base. Thank you everyone who went to Viet Nam it's late to say it but Thank You.
I think it was 69 and 70 because I remember being in high school and mailing him boxes of cookies. Then he was on the USS Nimitz. He used to be on deck when all the airplanes landed and waved them in. The last ship he was on in 78 was the Eisenhower. Then he retired. He now lives in the woods in Tennessee. He is a great brother.
I missed his show in '71 while out in the boonies awaiting Christrmas goodies via the Huey-borne Donut Dollies... get to see him NOW - after all these years... Thanks a MILLION for a very Merry Christmas!

Damn, dotsymae, what bad luck. I was at Can Rahn in 70-71 as an M.P., what year did he serve? Glad he made it back to friendly lines alright.
