Most dont realize how freakin loud these four guys were in concert. I used to luv watchin all but the faithful cringe at their volume! It was their awesome sound that so impressed most of the rockers at Reading festival. I had turned up that day in an old ditched Slade shirt and it certainly amused quite a few in the arena pre show with OLD FART jibes and banter etc., but afterwards I had offers to sell it for a considerable amount. I kept it. No pop here. Live Slade were a different ball game

@MrMeddled ~ With regard to the footaage..it is from Lochem, but I have created the video using a zillion edits from footage that survives that is NOT Dizzy mama...I felt that Dizzy mama needed a video to be made for it, and used clean Lochem Audio to overdub the footage...clear now? :)

@MrMeddled OK mate here goes...Slade In England was/is the name of the first web site based in England that started in July 97, up until that time there was just some micky mouse sites covering Slade that had no mention of that fact that the band were Holder/Lea/Powell and Hill. The site is oofline at present, but as an entity 'Slade In Englad' strives to bring quality footage of the band for people like yourself to learn that they were a shit hot combo and not some novelty band.

My question to you..... have you heard anything of the "Rare and Unseen" DVD that was due to come out last year??? That might have some more interesting live stuff.

For being able to give this kind of live performances that are unparallelled by any other (rock) band and producing a huge number of real tunes in so many styles and genres, it just does not compute with me that they are treated more or less like a footnote in pop history these days. @petethehawk Yes Pete, I could hardly believe this when I heard this the first time. E-P-I-C. Almost every other "great" rockband is dwarfed by this kind of stuff. This is, hands down, the best live performance of any pop or rockband I have ever seen and heard on youtube. I love Madness live, but this does not even come close. @carlphone Cheers Carl, Slade really were an amazing live band, but they never seemed to promote themselves in the media as a great live act.

Why they were overlooked for "live aid" has always baffled me.

That was the kind of stage that would have launched them into "super stardom" and shown the world that they really were the GREATEST live band "ever".

The response to the opening number was still quite cold and this continued through When Im dancing and Wheels aint coming down and even My baby left me but as Nod commanded the audience between numbers you could feel things begin to change dramatically as they tore into Take me bak ome and I swear To this day Slade began to grow both in sound and cockiness and I just stood there in awe looking over my shoulder as the crowd began to swell and the pushing for the front began to reach fever pitch.

They took quite a long time to get started and the crowd began to get even more restless and as they began the intro to Dizzy Mama the cans began to pelt the stage and a lot falling short onto the audience at the front. Nod came right up to the front of the stage and leered at the crowd sticking his guitar out into our faces as the intro ended and they tore into their set.

Contary to what you may be aware Slade did not start too well at Reading 80, and I was bloody frightened for them and myself particularly as I had squeezed my way close to the stage and as they arrived on stage they were greeted to a considerable amount of booing and the can throwing was a bit rough especially that back then people were lobbing around rather large two pint cans. I really did fear for them as there were a helluva lot of large ugly hells angel types at Reading in those days.

I was fortunate enough to be at reading 80 to see Krokus etc being an avid headbanger and got a real surprise when Ozzy pulled out and was replaced at the last moment with the band that started it all for me as a kid. I was worried how they would be accepted by such a metal audience at the time but had no need to fear they did blow everyone else away particularly due to their stunning sound system. Slade were so loud and they tore that crowd apart. Even whispering bob was whooping thru the PA
