Adam, did you ever try to play blues on a chromatic ? First and third position. Single notes with tongue blocking to get a really deep tone, octaves and other chords. If you want a new challenge, or start a new series of videos, this might be it for 2010.
Always enjoy your knowledge and dedication. Are you sure that George Harmonica Smith plays 1st position on a chrom? Cause Mark Hummel plays a B flat chrom on the song on the cd you'v got. (You know there is 6 different chrom keys.) Looking forward to see you in Holland in september. Cheers Bart
funny stuff, adam. NEXT CUT! i might have to get this cd just to hear the complete songs. NEXT CUT! it's a drag when the harp isnt at the beginning for you to key it. NEXT CUT!
heres a tip for everyone! download the bendometer program have it on the right of your screen and any gussow tube-vid on the left and you can see every note he plays even when he goes off on one.its great for the blue third lesson,by the way adam hits every bend perfectly the bendometer proves it. his singing is in tune as well although i wouldnt buy it!!
adam...you are MADMAN...lol...loved the whole 10 minutes tho...i find myself humming the key in my head while shuffling for the right key day in and day out. it sure helps having a good ear. keep them posts-a-comin brother!
adam some people seem to pick up an instrument and nail it very quickly, others battle for months and get nowhere fast, some say you need an ear for music and a natural talent.whats your view,is it just hard work and practice? or are some people more able than others?
It's hard to generalize. Harp was easier for me right off the bat than it is for many, but it took long years of practice, a few key lessons from my teacher, and many MANY gigs to become a pro. I think that most people, if they're willing to put in the time, can become decent blues harp players, good enough to work in a band.
If I may throw in on this, I once knew a guy who I used to teach and he really couldn't play for toffee, I mean really really bad, but he liked to do it and I was happy to share.
I met him two years later. He was with his friends and announced me as some genius harp teacher and told me his playing was all down to me! He then asked me to jam with him. I had to walk offstage, he was that good!
Hey, yougster, a bit off the subject, but have you ever noticed. I listen frequently to Nat Riddles tape I got from you and lately while also listening to Jerry "boogie" Mccain, I could swear they could be kissin cousin harp players. There style, their sound.
That was fun!

The "Get to the harp part, dammit!" bit was too funny.
Made coke classic spurt from my nose...
(surprisingly painful, but not as bad as orange juice)
