I think she did the best by having as you guys commented something for her but I feel confused.Looking to the south in the film meant looking to the past? I don't know if to feel sad they certainly have issues.They were dysfunctional but for me he is hurting even her woman. when she says fine...alex looking back at 3:08 was a "see i got something real and u don't " or I am even unsatisfated.

The actress who plays Sara is absolutely gorgeous. Any man less attractive than Alex would not have be acceptable or believable in that role. But I do understand why he got tired of playing the "hot guy." He's been basically the beautiful male prop in all these romantic movies he did in Sweden. It was never about really challenging him as an actor.
In the end, they seem to both still have something for each other, however too much time and too many experiences have taken place in their lives as a couple and as individuals to prevent them from bringing them back together.

Alexander can really act. He hardly uses any facial expressions, and STILL manage to transmit the exact emotions. That´s an ability of a true and talanted actor.

Oops. Sorry for the double "what's tragic is" comment. I didn't think the first one posted so I took the chance to revise a bit. After reading some articles about the film, I realized that my first comment focused too much on the K and S relationship, rather than on S's situation. Of course I should have thought of this in the first place since the film is titled "About Sara." Duh! ;p
Given that the film was drawn from real-life predicaments of modern day women, I think what's tragic here is not that K still loves S so deeply but that K's love still has the power to hurt S so deeply. By leaving K, she avoided becoming Exhibit A -- the miserable "little meatball" who attains a home and the child by reducing her sense of self -- only to be made (with help from K) into Exhibit B -- the woman who achieved self-actualization and is now alone and longing on the back porch.
talk about awkward! can't believe how he flaunts his pregnant wife in front of her. hopefully she will become stronger and move past him to someone that is actually good for her . she said she was dating someone from work so at least it is obvious he is going to support her work. he acted so much like a pouting kid in this movie that didn't get his way. he should of been happy that he had a pretty girlfriend that wanted to have some independence and he had his soccer career.
AS is a beautiful man, no doubt. I love the longer boyish hair he had in the beginning and even better how he looked in this clip. Reminds me of Eric in True Blood. His character is controlling and demeaning...my little meatball comment as an example. Has a pregnant wife and is still coming on to the ex. Classy.
I agree that the way that he speaks, looks and even swallows is mesmerizing and a testament to his acting ability. I hope he has a long career ahead of him.
@Azismaj unfortunately, we (Europeans) don't have the same budget as the americans. The sad thing is a lot of people in Hollywood are from Europe, and they go in the US because there're big opportunities to be appreciate over there (& money to make movies, obviously).
I love Swedish movies but everyone of them that I have ever seen usually features the female character. I do love this movie but could not help but cry for both characters they seem so sad.
Sad movie from what I can tell from the clips. They just weren't right for each other. That doesn't make it any less painful when they break apart. Some people are toxic and they need to be cut out of your life. Sara needed to let him and her mother go to be happy.

Actually, the movie is about Sara (well duh), and this is just a little part of it. It focuses on a couple of her relationships, this being one of the first, aswell as her struggle with her mom, and basically her growing up. This it not were it ends, it ends years later, and AS is nowhere near the picture if I remember correclty. It's quite depressing, but worth a go if you can find one with subs :)

This part always makes me feel like crying... it clearly shows that they still love each other. The way he looks at her, it still hurts him it seems and her too.
"You two reminiscing?" So he knowingly brought his current girlfriend/wife to his ex's house showing, and the new one knows it- what, are there no other realtors in all of that town in Sweden!?! That's really terrible. He's hurting both of them with the same action.

I think they couldn't be together because they weren't saying each other the whole truth, she couldn't tell him bout her mom, he didn't tell her bout the porns and how he feels about her job. They were more absorbed by hiding their little secrets to see that the partner is seeking for attention. And they meet for us -viewers- to realise they still love each other but now it's too complicated to come back and it's too late to come clean. It's what I think and, sadly, it's close to the reality
What's tragic about this scene is not that Kalle and Salle aren't together or didn't work things out. What's tragic is that it reenacts how Kalle showed his love for Sara all along - within a context that hurts her. Loving someone involves letting go; it doesn't include belittling a partner's source of of self-esteem outside the relationship or trying to induce regret or jealousy by flaunting one's own wealth or sexual potency.
I felt so bad for his wife - when she came out to the porch and could tell she interrupted something. And that look he gives her right before he goes back into the house.

I don't think she's stupid. Whoever controls the money controls YOU. It's easy to say she's stupid because you're infatuated with AS, but a woman with a brain knows that she should always have something-however little-for herself, regardless of how great the man is now. People change. He could become a jerk in 3 months. The fact that he was freaked out by her little independence says something bad about him. They both have issues.

Women and men are equal and should maintain a healthy degree of independence; however, it seems most women have forgotten that their desire to be taken care of - to have a man who loves them, protects them, and provides for them is NOT a weakness. I'd really like to know what happened b/w 8 and 9; does she leave him the day after their wedding? She has an awful time of things: her mother, her past. Why can't she have a &^$#! job? Of course, he's beautiful, even when he's being so baaaaadddd...

There is a cut in the movie at this point and we jump forward a few years. Sara is a succsessful estate agent, she lives with her colleague boyfriend and tries to live a happy life.
There´s nothing else mentioned about the divorce or something regarding Kalle until she meets him for the last time (clip 9).

I think that he is a man full of complexes - despite the fact that he is good looking and a successful football player with a lot of money.
Obviously he didn´t wanted Sara to work not only for "macho" reasons but because of having the feeling to be able to care for her. And he wanted to be loved by her for that. He wanted to be her hero, her knight on the white horse.
But due to the problems with her mother she wasn´t able to accept such knighthood. In my opinion she is looking for someone to be her father and on the other hand she doesn´t trust any man to fill the position - even her father couldn´t be there for her and left her with her depressive mother.
So there are two people with massive personal problems who are not able to get in real contact with each other. Instead of forming a unit they are two loneley planets circling around another.

BTW, he is an amazing actor. The things he can do with his eyes and the simple gesture of swallowing..
Lastly, he settled. And she did not face her issues before she ruined both of them.

I think they couldn't be together because they weren't saying each other the whole truth, she couldn't tell him bout her mom, he didn't tell her bout the porns and how he feels about her job. They were more absorbed by hiding their little secrets to see that the partner is seeking for attention. And they meet for us -viewers- to realise they still love each other but now it's too complicated to come back and it's too late to come clean. It's what I think and, sadly, it's close to the reality

What's tragic about this scene is not that Kalle and Salle aren't together or didn't work things out. What's tragic is that it reenacts how Kalle showed his love for Sara all along - within a context that hurts her. Loving someone involves letting go; it doesn't include belittling a partner's source of of self-esteem outside the relationship or trying to induce regret or jealousy by flaunting one's own wealth or sexual potency.

I don't think she's stupid. Whoever controls the money controls YOU. It's easy to say she's stupid because you're infatuated with AS, but a woman with a brain knows that she should always have something-however little-for herself, regardless of how great the man is now. People change. He could become a jerk in 3 months. The fact that he was freaked out by her little independence says something bad about him. They both have issues.

Women and men are equal and should maintain a healthy degree of independence; however, it seems most women have forgotten that their desire to be taken care of - to have a man who loves them, protects them, and provides for them is NOT a weakness. And those who do view it as a weakness are screwing it up for the women who actually appreciate it.

Obviously she leaves him the morning after the wedding.
There is a cut in the movie at this point and we jump forward a few years. Sara is a succsessful estate agent, she lives with her colleague boyfriend and tries to live a happy life.
There´s nothing else mentioned about the divorce or something regarding Kalle until she meets him for the last time (clip 9).

I think that he is a man full of complexes - despite the fact that he is good looking and a successful football player with a lot of money.
Obviously he didn´t wanted Sara to work not only for "macho" reasons but because of having the feeling to be able to care for her. And he wanted to be loved by her for that. He wanted to be her hero, her knight on the white horse.

But due to the problems with her mother she wasn´t able to accept such knighthood. In my opinion she is looking for someone to be her father and on the other hand she doesn´t trust any man to fill the position - even her father couldn´t be there for her and left her with her depressive mother.
So there are two people with massive personal problems who are not able to get in real contact with each other. Instead of forming a unit they are two loneley planets circling around another.
