I hated young modern in the beginning.. Nowadays I can't believe how I could possibly hate it even a little, it's such a wonderful album full of happiness and joy! not entirely as good as diorama, but not far from it!
Silverchair is an awesome band all around. criticize the new stuff all you want- "boohoo, where's the grunge? blah blah blah"
For all those who bag on Silverchair for changing their sound over the years, let me as you this: Would you have the same conversation with your friend every day? would you eat the same thing for lunch every day? do you still listen to all the same music that you listened to at 15? No? then don't hate on silverchair for evolving. that's what good artists do!
these days he seems to put a lot more enthusiam into his new stuff live. and i love the feeling behind young modern. even if it isnt their taste, people should give it a chance. music should be a form of free expression, not wrapped around stereotypes and conformity. but to each his own..
you know they ppl who think they are so "cool" and thing that its only "cool" to like the old stuff? basically ppl who knock silverchairs evolution are those types. i really enjoy young modern, cuz its just a fun record. im really looking foward to the new one. im thinking its going to be jazzy for some reason hah
I agree. Music you have the ability to express yourself in so many different styles unlike an ordinary job. It would get boring if you did the same stuff all the time.
awesome. i'm diggin' the groovy new pop rocks. i like the old stuff too. why does everyone make such a big whoop out of the different sound? i don't see how silverchair changing there style is any different than, like, say madonna (example)? i don't know why people can't get over the fact that dan is evolving musically, and i think that says a lot about a musician. he's doing what he enjoys, not what he's "supposed" to be doing. just makes it sound that much better if you ask me! :)
I almost got in a fight at school cause I said I liked silverchair, and this kid called me gay... I had to tell him, "I like the old silverchair not the new weak shit." He agreed with me after that.
damn that's one hell of a story! lol that's funny as hell yeah man when i tell people about silverchair i have to introduce them to everything before young modern! and they say damn i would like to hear them live and i have to say damn.... well he doesn't quite sound the same anymore fucked up huh?
I saw them live here in San Diego, CA and I actually go the opportunity to touch his hand because he was a few inches away from me. They sounded awesome and Daniel's voice is so much more mature and grown up. I personally think they have evolved since their first record. I respect the fact that they keep changing their sound but continue to stay old school.
@erving25 i usually introduce people with 'without you' and 'emotion sickness' first but a few people said instantly that they think they like young modern best already after seeing something from the atgd tour or an acoustic version. i absolutely love young modern and am proud of it. i also love dan's voice now best (you have to consider the fact of how much he's been using it. here isn't 100% but still good. it's always best on tour, of course). i tell everyone about silverchair lol.
@blueeyebeutterfly well young modern is ok. for some reason i can't stand if you keep losing sleep! mind reader, straight lines, the man that knew too much and low are my favorites. but all do honesty Dan plays it too safe i wouldn't say young modern ventures into new territories as much as his side project the dissociatives did. what he did with the dissociative was ground breaking! to me he follows the same trim from his side project after all if you keep losing sleep was made for that album.
@erving25 everything about the dissociatives cd is amazing! and ICBINR. they both ease into the next 'chair record and chronologically make sense, so no it's not as 'crazy' as everyone claims. i think it's all fantastic and can't wait to hear whatever is next!
@blueeyebutter fly as far as the voice goes i have never seen so many people divided over a rock stars voice. it's very apparent that he suffered damage to it i've always suspected vocal nodules. that being why most of the time he can't control his pitch like he used to. but to put the final nail in the coffin if you look @ old chair videos no one criticizes his voice until after the wave aid performance.
@erving25 that's because the wave aid performance was terrible, *in his standards*. i know the smoking and laryngitis, etc didn't help. i get the feeling he doubts his ability nowadays and holds back.. tuna at the YM launch demonstrates this well, because after inhibitions are lost he NAILS that song beautifully. not to mention his vocal style now is completely different, and not everyone likes that. but he tends to slip into his natural and much loved voice during difficult parts.
I agree, and this is a pretty catchy tune. There are a few die hards that claim the new Silverchair is better than the old, but album sales are always a good litmus test for how the world in general feels about a band. Though the new Silverchair sounds from another planet, you gotta love that they are doing it their way.
GO THE CHAIR, ow i have never seen them live only on the internet and dvds so i hate people that have seen them live and bag them. grrr why couldnt it be me.
Worse than Biebier, WTF is doing silverchair, silverchair used to be grunge, now silvercrap is like Bieber.

so why is everybody knocking on silverchair cause they're different now?
senorita21682 2 years ago 4
different is one thing. this album was from another planet. i'm sorry, i don't think anyone still listens to it, or finds it relevant
dionath 2 years ago
it's not because they're fucking different it's because the new album sucks; it doesn't suck because it's different--it sucks because it sucks!
dionath 2 years ago
it actually doesnt. just get the stick out of your ass an open up to new sounds
