Oh boy! This brings back memories :) Reminds me of big bulky TV sets with those 2 channel Hi-Fi's and oh yes, the VHS :) hahahah grew up watching this....I used to call my Commodore 64 "Priscilla: :D lol! Thanks for the upload AngusMacDal :) Cheers!
My mother recorded this for me the night it aired, then recorded over it a few years later. Then, last year, a friend of hers finds a seller online who put it on DVD. Great quality, commercials removed, and the intro with michael iesner also removed. 3 hours running time. Great movie that disney should have released, even if it was supposed to become a series.
@lordmerlin10 "mindless scifi television" the series you refer to are preteen sci fi tv shows and do not even make a blip compared to the TV original sci series such as TWLIGHT ZONE, OUTER LIMITS, STAR TREK (org series)--if those series had the kind of money the ones you mentioned they would still be running on TV! Face it; after STAR TREK the original---writers went for the 'cheap' and campy---today they do not even use professional sci fi authors but a stable of studio writers---
@rangeclerk maybe those shows were better but stargate had 3 series with the main show lasting ten seasons with over 5 million worldwide..star voyager never came close..Smallville might have been a mediocre series but it still lasted ten seasons with over 5 million viewers worldwide..in the end its not quality...its quantity
@SlimTwisted They don't show it detached but didn't they go down to that planet and had a thunderdome type battle? I would have thought they would have taken that little shuttle.
The theme music for "Earth Star Voyager" is absolutely fantastic! Lalo Schifirin, who composed this music, is known worldwide as a master composer. If Disney had just put a little more effort into the show (more racial diversity, better special effects) I could have seen "Earth Star Voyager" becoming a series on Disney.
I wish Disney would try again to remake this show better. Fix the mistakes. i wonder how the show would have gone if it went for 2 or 3 season. Proabably across between Battlestar Galactica (old) and Voyager
LOL I have been trying to think of the name to this mini-series FOR YEARS! I remember watching the first part thinking it was one movie and than being shocked to see TO BE CONTINUED at the end of the show. I was around 7 or 8, wow this is awesome to see it again! Thanks for posting!
To all who are interested: my brother and I started the "Earth Star Voyager is better than Star Trek and Star Wars put together" fan club on facebook. Please feel free to join.
yeah it dosent look that way to me pal, and yeah this show was probobly awesome to kids and tweens, but i say Lost in Space could run circles around this show, Trek and Wars included
@Akirajay38 :The first season of Lost in Space was very good! It had a great start with the promise of lots of intrigue and drama. This was all heightened when it was filmed in black and white. But when they went color,CBS decided to go the monster/alien of the week and to portray Dr. Smith as a fussy mischief maker, rather than the evil mastermind that he was originally. It could've been better than it was if CBS hadn't treated it as kid stuff.

oh - awesome - thank you! - i taped this off the tv when it showed - i think i still have it somewhere in my pile of VHS's - great - this and Flight of the Navigator, which was another great Disney tv special
Great fun to see this again. I remember watching the whole thing back in the day. I wanted more, but never saw this (or any more of it) again. If it were on DVD, I'd buy it.
This show was AWESOME. I remember my mom having to preview it before we watched it because it was "intense" for us as little kids...haha...and us sneaking with the babysitter and watching it while we recorded it! Oh man...memories. Why can't we get a copy?!
@lordmerlin10 Because the mini-series didn't pull in the numbers that Disney wanted so that this could be a financially feasable series. This was but one of a butt-load of pilots that came out in the mid to late eighties that failed to get off the ground. Disney had hoped to not only have a weekly series made of this show but add some real science content in it so that it would be a little more than mindless scifi television.
I have this on Video too. It was filmed here in Vancouver on the expo site. Some is still standing today and some is now the home of the 2010 Games olympic village. I saw them film some of this and still to this day think it would have made a geat Series
Yo this movie was cool for it's era. It was an 80's new Sci-Fi experience just didnt do all that well. I mean it's Disney they could only get so open back then.......Take it for what it was back then. THEY SHIZNIT!!!
Wow, I forgot just how cheezy the opening for this movie was. God, that music is horrible. I remember when this came out Disney had high hopes this might become a series but alas, they found other projects to invest in.
Yeah, as much as I thought it was an interesting concept, it didn't have the moxy or the maturity of Babylon 5. That and it owed much to old scifi tropes of the 60's and 70's especially the enviromental scifi themes.
But Disney did had the balls to distribute a show w/ all the qualites Babylon 5 promoted on our TV tubes. Would you like to know what Disney show I'm talking about?
Yes please give us a kiddified Disney future with all the lovely anglo peaches and cream cast members and no racial diversity what so ever. I remember this haveing a little potential to be a decent show but they squandered it with the adults playing kids tropes and overtly Disney like sentimentality.
This is very awesome! I loved this movie! I also had it on VHS. Sadly, I let a friend borrow it and haven't seen it since. =P Brings back memories though. Thanks! ^_^
What I can remember from this series I didn't care for.
The music is an entirely different thing altogether.
What a smash! In the 80's I recorded that one on tape from a VHS recording; it always got my heart started early in the morning on the way to University.
Yikes! Those hairstyles! The cast looks very...Canadian. At any rate, a nice opening theme and some cool effects by Richard Edlund's Boss Film Corp. (RIP!).
Perhaps because it was shot in Canada. They made full use of the Expo86 pavillions that were still standing to give a futuristic representation of Earth buildings and such. The majority of the cast I believe were American though.
Well there is one Canadian cast member here that looks so much different in this than he does now. I'm talking about the character Leland Eugene played by Bruce Harwood. Everyone that is a fan of the X-Files knows Harwood as the Lone Gunman John Byers.
I vaguely remember seeing the first half of this when I was a kid and missing the second half. I kept hoping they'd replay it... but they never did. I'd like to see it now... wonder if it'd hold up.
I still have this movie on the night it was aired......I'm amazed the tape still works

damn, i grew up with this movie!!
i watched the hell out of my copy, taped by my mother for me,
back during it's original airing. my copy is still perfectly playable,
only problem is that it was REC. on my mother's LINEAR STEREO
1987 HITACHI VCR, and as such, the SQ is QUITE rank.
i see from this upload that your copy is as pristine
as one could ever hope to find. i'd like to ask you if you might be willing to part with your copy.
also, can you point me to an MP3 of the opening theme?
