ozzys voice sounded best on sabbath bloody sabbath ! i bet he couldnt do another performance on that song. btw the band tuned lower to help tony Iommi out. He couldnt tune standard and if he did hed use very very very light guage strings.

I am not a huge Ozzy "Solo Era" fan, but I do love Sabbath, and I think this was the best Ozzy's voice ever was.

When Tony started tuning down to D they changed the key to War pigs and Paranoid from E to D (Live at last, Rainbow 73) WHY? They killed the character of the songs. I can't listen to this and I LOVE Black Sabbath.

They started tuning lower to help Ozzy's voice. The songs are easier to sing when they lower the key a couple of notes.

I actually like it tuned lower, myself, but everyone is different.

Fairplay shytown but songs have their own key - it's as simple as that - if you do a song in the wrong key then it's not the same song - different keys have their own character - F for example, B is another great rock key - and lately for some strange reason F# (I don't like Guns N Roses but Paradise city literally couldn't be any other key)

I do realise Ozzy had a problem but to be honest all 70s rock singers had a big range and Zep, Purple, Free, Faces, Nazareth etc never changed the key.

F# is a great key for rock, ex: Lights out by UFO. Straight throught the heart by Dio. Theres a whole bunch of them. I play in F# alot, its fun to solo over.

You're right - there's a lot of movement to be had in f#. B is great also - same sort of movement plus you've got a string to go down to. It can be B major or B minor (Pink Floyd's 'Money' is in this key and is great to solo to)

@marklar74 - c'mon - I know the key of F sharp when I hear it - I've got perfect pitch. I know the characters of every key and this is NOT G. Play along with it and find out. I've just watched the video and I can see the confusion though - they've tuned down a semitone and Slash is playing an open G shape at the beginning.
