Very slowly build up the intensity of your vocals and let your body get used to it.

As the person below me said. Use the diaphragm for a controlled firm pressure of air. The vibration is still in the throat though

@TheFMAEnvy i know, so true! lil' tip, drink A LOT of water, some people have been known to lose thier voice by getting it wrong while practicing, it can really damage your vocal chords so water can help to soothe it so they dont fail on you

@1232avengedsevenfold Yeah it tis.Your throat vibrates when you talk, that's how the sound is created, so it's definatly going to when you growl.

@ArRaNSqUiReS Actually, if you SING correctly, you shouldn't feel it in your throat. Growling should be similar to singing, but, of course, with a different sound. If you sing in an incorrect way, from your throat, it becomes sore and you temporarily lose your range. I reckon it is the same with growling. I'll try to learn it, and if I find anything useful, I'll report it.

Of course, sorry for bashing here if I am just talking nonsense.

@Lekiwi33 I can't really growl (though I'm trying to force someone else to learn), but I do do melodic singing. And I'd say NO, DEFINITELY NOT. If your vocal chords are in ANY WAY suffering from illness, do NOT put any strain on them. That includes shouting, melodic singing AND death growls.
