@MsMegaSkittles as many as you need. The chain should be as long as the width you want your blanket to be. But for a blanket, you will need a cabled hook.
@photoalley To make a large piece like a blanket or afghan, you need to use a flexible afghan hook. It is a hook with a cable on it to accommodate a large number of stitches. Another option is to make panels then stitch them together.
Thank you so much! I always wanted to crochet. My failures turned me off from trying again, until now. How do you end a square so the thread doesn't unravel also how do I sew squares together with a different color thread? Do you have videos for those newbie problems? Thank you again for this vid
Hi Beth I love your tutorials you are great and everything is in slow motion that makes it so much easier to learn for us beginners. Do you have a tutorial in the Tunisian stitch for knitting? Im new to knitting and I am very eager to learn ....Thanks Lisa in Virginia
Perfect for making a scarf! I am going to make my mum a scarf using this Method! I already started two baby blankets with Bethlintx1 granny square tutorial. Great!!!
Questions: 1) Do you have to use a crochet hook that large? 2) What thickness of wool is best to use? We call it Wool and Aran in the UK, Aran is about the same as 10ply yarn I think! Love the videos x
@squeakymc Two answers! 1) no. If you use a smaller hook, use finer yarn. 2) for DK yarn use a 6.5 mm hook. Use a hook two sizes larger than recommended on the yarn label. Tunisian crochet easily curls. The curl is lessened by using a bigger hook than usual. Blocking the piece helps too.
@judycat123 In the last stitch insert the hook under the vertical bar and the loop behind it. Then when you pass back, draw though one loop, (or chain 1) then *draw thru 2 loops repeat from *across.
beth, i love the video! but at 0:10 you said that its also known as the tunisian knit stitch. i think the knit stitch and the simple stitch are 2 different stitches.
that means your great @ crochet

MsMegaSkittles 4 weeks ago
@MsMegaSkittles Yes. this stitch does curl. You will have to block it when you are finished.

sure this is a dumb question, but how can you make a nice size blanket if you have to have all stitches on the hook?

Can I use any type of yarn?
TOOCHOCLATE50 4 months ago
@TOOCHOCLATE50 yes. But to see the stitches, it is best to use a smooth yarn.

I meant the first row is a bump.
JJECKLE13 4 months ago
I've noticed when we start the stitch there's a bump then it's flat. When we end the stitch how do we make it look like the beginning?
JJECKLE13 4 months ago
@JJECKLE13 I'm not sure I understand. There are separate videos for the final row or bind-off row.
