  • this 4000 horsepower 4 banger is only a engineering marvel of sorts. Other that that, who would want to see an annoying 5 second noise maker, when they can see a low 4 second Hemi. At least the top fuel hemi sounds good at 8000 horsepower. I can only imagine how horrible the noise is that comes from a 4000 hp 4 cylinder. they are annoying enough listening to ones that go 14 seconds. they pop and bang like crazy trying to make that power.     It's just as loud - but the resonant "can" sound (the word you use to describe a 4cylinder that you stole from your friend, who stole from his friend, who stole from his red neck dad) isn't as spaced out as much like the v8s. It's just as mind blowing loud and you can feel it in the bleachers.

    Be specific with the word hemi too. Did you know Chevy Sprints have hemis? The 1.3L turbo car form the 80s. Look it up.

  • @psychoninja911 I was very "specific". I said low 4 second hemi. You show me any 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder "hemi" that powers a dragster to 4 seconds. Second, I never said the 4 cylinders weren't loud. Unfortunately the little 4 bangers "are" loud, and annoying! They sound like crap! They pop and bang and weeze. That's not cool sounding to me. I'd rather listen to my girlfriend yelling at me than listen to a souped up 4 cylinder.

  • @mine1username Pop and banging... That sounds like a few things. First I'll start with rev limiter. Next could be bad tuning. Back firing all together. Unburned fuel. Also could be this trick where - clutch all the way in turns the car off (keeps turbo spooling) when you release the clutch the car turns on. I know a lot dsm guys that do this and it leaves a lot of unburned fuel that pops when you floor it again.

    The weezing - is a turbo sound. Look up Larry Larson on youtube. Weezy turbo v8.

  • @mine1username And for the hemi comment. Not sure - did you watch this video and notice the cylinder walls here? I'm sure there's one out there where they cut the cylinders out of a solid block of aluminum.

    These 4 cylinders are SAFER as well. This dragster will sound about the same as any. The human ear can only hear 120db. Dragsters produce 194+db of sound accelerating. 120+db at idle. Therefor, at idle your human ears will only pick up distortion after they accelerate.

  • @psychoninja911 I wear ear plugs when I go to the top fuel or funny car races anyway. Besides, the sound is well within the frequency range that humans can pick up. I gaurantee you I can tell the difference. The bottom line is this- This 4 cylinder is one hell of a peace of engineering, no doubt. However it would be extremely annoying to watch this thing going 5 or 6 seconds in the 1/4. It won't draw the excitement that V8 will bring. I have heard some 6 cylinders that I like, I'll admit.

  • @mine1username The sound is not within human's range of hearing. 120db (give or take 10 or less). I fancied car audio for like 6 years competitively. I know about where anyone's hearing stops in dB.

    And you haven't even heard this 4 cylinder run yet. If I'm correct, normal dragsters power their turbos with EXHAUST, which muffles the sound a good deal. This dragster dumps the exhaust and powers the turbo with nitrous. Nitrous powered turbo leaves the exhaust sound to be deafening.

    And I go to the races to see fast cars. I'm a car enthusiast. Not an Engine Cylinder Count loyalist... If this car showed up at the track, my heart would race to see what it could do to engines twice it's size (even though it packs double the technology).

I have the answer for you already. The 500 cubic inch top fuel motors are about 8 liters, and are almost twice as fast as what they claim this 4 cylinder will do in a funny car body.     oh and btw in most places that cars not even legal. it doesnt even have reverse lights let alone an extra 500-1000 lbs of safety equipment like air bags, correct bumpers etc. that you need to legalize it in the states.

    does the car even have air conditioning, radio, comfortable seats, etc like our cars do? i bet not.

    this car is just a race car made to be legal in EU. the zr1, ssc, and acr are street cars that can go fast.

  • add all of that stuff to the GTR720 and theres no way that it could get anywhere near the zr1 and the acr let alone the ssc and s7. an average person would never want to drive the gtr720 because it would just get fairly uncomfortable and boring during a cruise unlike the american cars.

  • @stlchucko Yes I know they both have a Chevy engine, but they're not standard engines by far. The reason they both use a Chevy engine is because both companies are very small and cannot afford to develop their own engine. And both of these small companies can make that engine go round a corner faster than Chevy themselves, which are part of one of the biggest car producers in the world. How embarrassing...

  • @dan19evans What's embarrassing about a company selling stock 500+hp car that pulls over 1G on a skidpad and has a 100k mile warrantee... not to mention that independent companies use GM's V8 motor to power their $100k+ supercars. They could have used any motor, but they went with the GM.

    Besides, the Ultima doesn't pass any of the government mandated crash tests the Corvette is required to pass since it's pretty much a kit car that can be bought just like any Factory Five car; sans drivetrain.

  • @Warblade118 I'm not (sorry, wasn't - that reply was from nearly a year ago..) being 'brand loyal', just correcting people who wrongly think that the american cars that mentioned in my previous comment are the fastest thing out there, because they're clearly not.

    Obviously if you had enough money, like you said, you could make something like an F150 ridiculously fast. But you would have to replace so many parts that it couldn't be classed as an F150 anymore...

The Ultima is a great car, no doubt. But I'm sure there is another car out there a little faster, a little quicker in the corners, etc. The FFR GTR for example btw,I just checked their site, isn't the Ultima normally Chevy powered anyways? So it seems the Ultima owes a fair chunk of its performance to a Chevy? Strange.

  • @Warblade118 Yes but the engine is far from standard. The main reason why Ultima mostly use Chevy engines is because they are a small company who canot afford to develop an engine. Also, the Chevy engine is very tuneable making it an obvious choice. Besides, whats the point in having the power if you can't make it go roud corners?

    My point was mostly based on cornering abilities anyway. Also, I don't see why you're reviving somethig from a year ago..

    Fact: of the top ten Nurburgring times, only 1 American car places. Of the top 25 its only 2. The one car in the top ten, the Viper ACR, was modified extensively for the event, and was running competition, not DOT tires.

    Look at Top Gear times, first American car is 18th! ZR1 is slower then the GTR is most testing. HOW CAN THAT BE???????

    fact-the ACR Viper was ran with stock tires and ALL stock equipment just as it comes from the dealership including DOT approved tires-NO MODS.

    Fact-the ZR1 is in sixth place ahead of the gtr-(the gtr is the one that needed mods to turn a quick time).

  • Not only that, but if the BMW E46 CSL Loaded wasn't such a scary-ass car, and deemed "unsafe" in the USA, it'd be the fastest, since it's road-legal everywhere else but here. it clocked 7:22:09, 532hp; ACR clocked 7:22:1! A 550hp GTR Spec-V clocked 3 seconds less, beating your lovely 638hp C6 ZR1 and the Enzo, merely to display that IF they wanted to, they could assrape Chevy, but chose not to. You'll never learn: It aint about the horses.
