I saw the Penn Central as a kid. Was saddening that it was such a corporate disaster with the corruption and economic chaos affecting it. For a railfan, however, it was a neat time to see an incredible variety of equipment from the ex-NYC, Pennsy, and New Haven railroads. Conrail did make a change for the better.
