vancouver is expensive, it rains all the time 3/4 times out of the year. Theres not much to do except ski, or go see a movie. Im born here. Most people I know complain of boredom. The people are mean as hell. Most of em are. Average house price now is 500,000 dollars. No joke, this place is reallyyyy expensive. Shit education, and expensive to shop, rent, and make a meager 8/hour, if your not educated, gets you nowhere. Only thing going for this place is free healthcare.

I think they missed the boat on what the 'free hugs campaign' really means. They scare people in their costumes instead of trying to show people that we are all the same....human beings.

Actually we didn't even know there was a boat when we did this. It was back in '02 and free hugs were just a part of it. We had signs encouraging people to "Call Your Mother" and "Commit Random Acts of Kindness" we were just trying to get people to engage in kindness and smile and laugh a little. It was pretty fun and we generally got positive responses. It was pretty awesome. Thanks for the thoughts.

The reality is that - especially without the costumes on - if you try and hug strangers on the street in Vancouver it's considered assault; this is the sketchiest, most paranoid and fear-ridden city on the continent.
