Here's the true analysis of the bands. Cynder was the overall best band. People like Manntis and A Dozen Furies is because they style was trendy at the time and they eventually lost in shuffle of the metalcore bands that over-saturated the metal scene. Cynder at least stood out from both of those bands and you can acutally understand what the singer was saying.

Cynder was a little behind the times, they would've fit in better at Ozzfest 2000-2002, Mannntis and Dozen Furies are both good bands, too bad they aren't as sucessful as they deserve to be. It's still a mystery to me why Manntis is unsigned and Dozen Furies is broken up

Hell yeah, man. I mean your best best is to check out the Southern Lord and Rise Above records roster first (the latter is Lee Dorian from Cathedral/Napalm Death's doom/stoner laber). Um, Bill from Carcass has a band called Firebird which is really mid-70's FM rock sounding, Pentagram are still around, some people like the Sword, but I think they kind of suck. Let's see...Annihilation Time is a punk band that's basically 70's rock+Black Flag riffs. There's a lot.

I mean, also, there's the obvious more recent sludge bands like Mastodon and Baroness. if you go to the metal-archives or smnnews forums and post this question they could definitely give you a more in depth list, because I personally just like Electric Wizard and a handful of doom/stoner bands, so my suggestions are limited.

2. C tunning

3. open string riffs

The thing that is suffering is metal and core is the cancer. Metalcore is a trendy cancer I guess. If I'm the only real metal fan that will stand up and say something about it, I'm not afraid to.
