Actually with some more drive it would sound pretty close. Angus's sound has always been a bit twangy by Gibson standards. Just throw a tube screamer or maybe a boss infront of the amp.....
Actually the circuit is a pretty straight Marshall ripoff. The Jensen speaker gives the amp a certain Fender raggediness though. I think the song sounds great through this amp. It's what it would sound like if AC/DC had been from Texas.
How would it handle delay and heavier distortion? I'm asking because Jonny Greenwood used one of these beauties in Manchester with Radiohead. I'm looking at one for live and recording. How does it take to Mics?
That depends on alot of things. I have one and because i use a vintage strat with low output pickups i get very little drive. However when i use my les paul the humbuckers drive the tubes to give a bit more distortion. You can with this amp adjust both the PRE and POWER amp tubes via the "Volume" and "Master volume" contols and when cranked it's quite balsy and the tone is amazing but don't be fooled. This thing gets super loud! Ask me if you want more info!
Pedals are kind of a necessity with this if your playing live, because it does only have one channel and no effects aside from reverb...you can still get great tone but you have move around the knobs each time u want to change that tone
depends on how loud you need to go. The Deluxes are 40 watts, which should cover most needs. If you're playing small gigs, the blues junior should cover it.
the reason it does is because it breaks up way earlier due to less wattage which clips the signal sooner.. hense the gain come sin earlier and easier to dial in. its not that the amp was voiced to have higher gain levels. anyway.. great amp no doubt. They discontinued the damm thing.. it figures.
the nos yeas, but the only thing that i can see thats different is that (besides the tweed) they put jensen speakers in it. and although this is a wicked amp, im thinking of going straight for a mesa lonestar =)
I have a Hot Rod and this. On its own it can't really compete with a loud drummer, but it sounds MUCH better. The drive channel on the Hot Rod is garbage, its clean good for bright clean chording. The NOS Blues JR can do this, but can also produce fat, warm, lead tone suitable to clean electric jazz and blues all the way up through saturated blues drive to a rock (NOT METAL) lead.
I'd get the Blues Deluxe. Loud and bassy enough, but warm and full. All 3 take distortion pedals very well.
hehe nice man, i just picked up my Blues Jr (Charlie) today man and its as sweet as cherry pie, has simple setup and soft feathery spring reverb. My pooch even loves it. When i play he waddles into my room and plops down right next to it =)
jajajaja good good. you have said that you have changed the original ampli speaker and you have put a jensen c12 speaker??? tell me please. i´m very interested in the blkues junior. thanks a lot!
no matter. just buy a cab. the only dif. in between the tweed and regular is the speaker, and that can be replaced easy. i have a blues junior. its my starting amp! its also very loud. nice tone dude!
Yeah my friend has the tweed one. Jensen is the name of the speaker brand I think, the stock one comes with Eminence speakers, I just like how tweed looks.
no, it's stock. Thing is with the tweed version, it has a Jensen c12 speaker as opposed to the eminence legend which can sound a bit more lifeless in the topend. I'm playing a strat with texas specials. I'm looking forward to changing the tubes to JJ/Tesla because apparently it puts more gain on tap.
What would it sound like if Lynyrd Skynyrd played "You Shook Me All Night Long?" Now you know.

the one and only thing keeping me away from getting this amp is the lack of a drive channel. Like, can this amp get a Marshall like gain?

If you have to ask that you shouldn't be considering this amp.
"...lack of a drive channel." That's funny dude!

it will be nice if had some humbucker

Ohh man... AC/DC really sounds like shit on this amp

I agree
speedwagon1213 3 years ago
I'm sure if you plugged in a humbucker guitar you'd be able to get some pretty decent AC/DC tones. This tone is great, just not right for the riff.

is that the most distorted it can get?
Lazyboy5298 3 years ago
think about it this way: what easier, adding distortion, or taking it off. just kick an OD pedal infront of it.

Angus only "effect" is the guitar cable...

I can buy this one brand new or second hand Hot Rod Deluxe or Blues Deluxe. Which one should I pick?

depends on how loud you need to go. The Deluxes are 40 watts, which should cover most needs. If you're playing small gigs, the blues junior should cover it.
DoctorNumber46 3 years ago
the blues jr has more preamp distortion than hot rod and blues deluxe. and you can always mic it to a PA if it isn't loud enough.
