  • Today when I learned that every school in the CBE (Calgary), won't be getting options next year. I immediately thought of this song. :(

  • @halflinks What you say is especially true of charter schools. A big business.

  • depressing...

  • the fields in which these unwarrented tests are truly needed for, is anything but English, if the only purpose behind the English classes are to make a child literate, then I should of been able to drop out of the English classes after fourth grade.

  • Finally a song that is not just a kiss up to the test and test makers.

  • Testing is pure authoritarianism.

  • I'm a ninth grader in Pennsylvania and I can tell you personally that THE PSSA'S SUCK DONKEY BONERS!

"Remember children, we stick to the book ONLY because that's what's on the test!"

    What a joke!

  • haha god this is so true

  • lol this is so true! our school hardly funds music, art, social studies, second language or, come to think of it, anything! The music department has to hold there own fundraiser so they can buy instruments books etc. Most teachers have to buy some of there supplies.

meanwhile, teachers are talking about the flat screen tv that

our school just bought. no one uses it, anyways...

  • "Students don't learn what you teach them. They learn what you're excited about." - Mr. Foley

  • 1:32 my high school's logo was displayed.. altoona area high school. Behind the PSSA logo. The test was complete bull when i took it in 11h grade 2 years ago. the pass to fail ratio on the math section was 60:40. Over half of the students failed. I hardly squeeked by on the test and it is completety worthless becasue now i am in college and doing very well. The test is just used as a big threat over money control.

  • This video makes a great point. Teachers should have the freedom to teach what they feel is important; not a bunch of poleticians who have not been in the education system since they were kids.

  • amazing point!

in my home province of New Brunswick, the only official bilingual province, and the education minister wants to ELIMINATE early french immersion, offering instead a half year long "Intensive French" that's mandatory... and no french after that....

  • Sometimes I wonder why I suck at math, turns out my teachers are lazy.

  • "The truth is that schools don't really teach anything except how to obey orders."

    John Taylor Gatto

    and my qoute

  • o baby!

  • Lol we watched this at a assembly.

  • Hahahah

You crack me up. I'm no grammatical savy person, but I take it youre still in school and this stresses English and Math, yet you write "we watched this at A assembly," not "at AN assembly." Lol. Sorry I just thought that was funny. Take care.

  • ? lol?

  • It is grammatically incorrect to use the indefinite article 'a' in front of a word that begins with a vowel. The indefinite article 'an' is to be used in front of nouns that begin with a,i,e,o or u.

  • ... Yes, I knew this. But, this is the internet. And I really didn't care how I typed that sentence. Thank you for correcting me though. The fact that you took the time to do so really shows how much you care. IN faCT' feel fre3 to c0'rect this sen10ce.

  • PURE GREATNESS! I'm still smiling! Thanks for posting this vid. It appears that some good material is finally penetrating the traditional rhetoric. I have some vids on education on my page and I'd be honored if you take a look. Bravo!

  • It is not "No Child Left Behind", it is "No Teacher Left Standing"!!! Where is the student and parent accountability piece??? I have been teaching in poverty for 4 years and I am totally burned out!!!!

  • I've been at this since 1985. I do get very frustrated at times, it is the smile on the students' faces that let me know I am making a difference.

  • A pleasant melodic reminder of the state of education that has been legislated by political jargon and a language that has its root in talking tough, faux accountability for the teaching profession and endless rule-making in the states that is solely focused up the results they can publish to "make the grade." Pass the test. What a nurturing statement for everyone who has to participate in this mess we call the educational system.

  • PSSAs stink on ice

  • As I teacher, I don't like them either. I'd rather teach the students than test them for days!

  • If it was not thanks to NCLB we would not have this testing. My aunt and one of my cousins has to go over the "GPS" standards in Georgia, and in every month of April my 2 family members have to administer the "Criterion Refrenced Comptency Test". It is not fair to teachers and to my beloved family members and I wish we could tell the new secretary of education and ur state superintendent that we petition this "testing"

  • I wish there was some way to ensure competent teaching, but if state tests are the best they've got, it's pretty hopeless.

  • This is a great video. Too bad it is so true. This song applies to the WASL in the State of Washington as well as the test in PA.

  • more like just about every school, some of my teachers (elective teachers where there aren't standardized tests) are completely against them because they destroy creativity. Now the school is getting rid of the activity bus, so school is about to hit the point where it's only study all year then take a test that has completely nothing to do with you passing or not, I was kicked out of my normal math class because I refused to take notes (9th grade and they were teaching 3rd grade material)

  • the teacher was afraid I'd fail and she'd lose her job. Now I'm in a slower math class when my highest skills are in math. I just sit in there fill out to worksheets then sleep. I got 500's on all my tests (except math because I was in a half clas where I spend the entire year going over half of the normal class's work) I didn't like the teachers so I purposely did awful in their classes so they'd get fired, a standardized test, and it doesn't count for or against me.

  • I completely agree with your thoughts, although not with your methods. I am lucky enough to be in a school system with a hierarchical class structure, so that teachers of advanced (AP) classes only have advanced students in their classes, and so they dont have to worry about teaching down to the students. However, in lower level courses, that is a problem. Seeing as youre in high school, however, id advise against doing bad in a class, as colleges will look at your HS grades to decide admission.

  • makes two videos i can comment on now

  • its so true i realy hate the education system in america where the whole ciriculum is based around what is on the state starderdized test

  • No Child Left Behind???? Yeah Right - Thanks GW for screwing another part of the US

  • so true, the satuts of education today is ridiculous

  • We used this in our seminar on the use of data in schools - in Australia! It worked a treat - thanks :)

  • that was great. sadly true, and perfect explination to help make my research easier for me to understand.

  • Hope this gets as much play as a"Flowers are Red and Green". The comment underscored in the song is exceptionally valid...as was the one made in Harry's song. Still miss him a lot. *sob*

  • LOL

    i hate the pssa

  • good job it helped me on the test (pssa)

  • Wow. So mellow, but so sad at the same time. I just might send this to some student types I know, and to my sister, and to my girlfriend, and to my brudder-in-law, and...

  • fantastic. True too XD
