  • I'm having ChromeHounds flashbacks.... noooo not the menu music again!

  • so you spend class playing MechWarrior 2?

  • Looks like something from mechwarrior :D

  • those look a lot like the sand mech in zone 4 from omega boost

  • so i liked this trailer very much. i will be expecting a full movie some time soon?

  • Hey you need to make like a war of the robots! Erm I sound so noobish right now ._.

  • Looks like a film from Command&Conquer Kane's Wrath

  • ? whaaaa

  • Remind me, what was the motivation?

  • BAD ASS

    !!!

  • cool animation, teach me senseii:D

  • Cool, this very good video, anyone can teach me to use the Autodesk Combustion 2008?, please, I would greatly appreciate.

  • cool!

not bad for the first time, it inspire me to make my own video and to take that class!

  • dude i could amagine this as a hit toy it had to be cheap cause it was eventually gonna get destroyed.

  • great video, but i would like to know how you did that text at the start and what the song it. I have just started using 3D studio max and i hope i can do something like this soon

  • Well let me say that you have made a very promising film here; obviously you are very talented and experience you will get along the way. I enjoyed your film. Sorry for the mix up with Combustion. Stay on course, you will reach far.

  • @haroldsworld Thank you! No worries on the mixup.

  • This is not Combustion - it's 3D Studio Max or a similar program. I have been working with Combustion since 2003.

  • @haroldsworld Combustion is the name of the video, not the software I used. I listed the software I used in the description.

  • it's pretty good!

the animations of the leg are not too beautifoul... you should add some pistons too...

but i really like the engine exhaust, nozzle effect and bullets.

  • that was freakin cool fantastic work you must have put some decent time into it!

  • this is a great first robot animation and i like it. further more one can see that you know how to tell a story visually. never mind those sour lamers who like criticize others in order to feel good with themselves.

from a brother animator (3rd year student)

  • The stepping sound effects seemed not be fully synchronised to the motion...but other else is perfect..great job

  • FINISH THE CLIP DUDE

  • Looks really great for first animation... :)

  • there are some animation issues with the legs at the begining but its a fucking awesome job. its your first 3d class but i figure you worked in 3d before that?

  • @Ikimono Well if you knew how to read, you might have noticed the illusive Video Description that clearly explains this is a short project for my very first 3D animation class. You might have also noticed that I uploaded this video in 2006, and you could probably assume that being only my first class for animation, I might actually be better now that I've graduated and work in the field. Should I jot down some notes for self improvement from your supreme skill at animating turntables oh wise one?

  • @TheOnlyKingArthur

good job for your first class

  • lol i love it how when you win in in verbal fights the other guy has nothing to say back.

  • @Ikimono youre a douche

  • Nice!

  • its pretty good. i certainly couldn't do any better

  • What IS a 'Miniclip' anyways? A very small clip? (rimshot) :D No, but what is it?

  • nice n

    awesome

  • this is actually awsome, have you got a mark for it

  • lol he was insulted with the miniclip comment

  • wooooooow 5 stars :o

  • awesome

  • 56 seconds of awesomeness 5/5

  • how long does it take to do this?

  • O.O

  • the sounds are from canyon defense!!!! its a game on miniclip!!

  • Not sure what Canyon Defense or Miniclip is, but I edited the sounds from the Hollywood Edge Sound Effects library, which can be purchased from Hollywood Edge. It is very likely that the game company purchased the same sounds and used them also.

  • probably

  • very nice work!

  • Whoa man

  • Really cool

  • Thats an sketch not a short.

  • Nicely done!

  • awesome

  • Nice work. The opening shot reminded me of an old computer animation titled "Chromosaurus."

  • that was kool..

  • awseome!

  • your credits need to be readible. they are not in this scene.

  • Oddly enough, the law of three's does not work in your opening shot, something wonky about the sound... hmph, weird -- sorry, I'm a sound designer -- that said I guess sound really wasn't your focus, great work, I'm sure you've only gotten better since putting this up...

  • AWESOME

  • Which programm do you used?

  • Hey where did you get the sound effects of the walking? I'm looking for walking sounds for mechs :0

  • Nice

  • this is just so cool..should have been an intro for a game:D

  • Was, I just graduated in December.

  • what is the music name?

  • Diary of Jane

  • amazing!

  • dont listen to him its cool...just not long enough !!

  • What makes it bad?

  • i think he means it was way to short

  • Estoy seguro que tienes gafas!

  • that was well done dude!

  • you know what would be sweet, if you put out a simple tutorial on how to connect the legs and cockpit so they can move seperatly, i've treied everything but the dam book doesn't tell me, and know one on youtube has a tutorial on it, which is wiered. so could you please, or if you know of a good tutorial website, i really want to make my own games, but just can't 3ds max in my head. or maya

  • You just have to know what to search for. Look for Inverse Kinematics, Bones and Biped Rigging tutorials. I may do some tutorials in the future but unfortunately I am very busy most of the time.

  • nice dude...is it all combustion?

  • Hey how did you make the animation stop, yet you panned around with the camera? I have 3ds max 2009 as well, please share your knowledge

  • Almost stopped, just slowed down a whole lot. You can actually access subframes, called 'ticks' in Max. Click on the time configuration button, bottom right of your screen, looks like a stopwatch. Under time display select either bottom two options with TICKS. You have to render with Video Post to be able to see the subframes.

  • whats the name of the song used in the film :) ?

  • Diary of Jane, by Breaking Benjamins.

  • wow dude you are amazing

  • Thank you.

  • Haha! Nope.

  • Sent you a pm.

  • MOST AWSOME MECH ANIMATION EVA!

  • Hahaha! Thank you.

  • they kinda look like there from that movie atlantis,if it was about a desert XD

  • I will have to go watch that now :-)

  • kewl

  • the mechs cockpits...yeah :P they do look a lot like that...

  • or lego submarines.

  • Hahaha :-)

  • nice song?

  • Diary of Jane by Breaking Benjamins

  • heh...mechs baby

  • good vid bro! sound effects usually pull a 3d artist's work in a negative direction, but you pulled it off well. i like the minigun effect!

  • Thanks. I love to play with sound :-)

  • How did you stop the particles for bullet time effect?

  • I didn't stop the particles. I just rendered in-between frames, which are called 'ticks' in 3ds Max. If you go to the Time Configuration, you can select the Time Display to show FRAME:TICKS. Now you can have 160 subframes in-between each frame. When played back at 30 fps it appears to 'almost' freeze. It is really just moving very very slow.

  • Thanks

  • thats some cool tip there, cheers man.

  • Thanks.

  • mmm a single word

Nice soundfx too. Without sound effects any CG is nothing.

  • Thanks. I agree, sound makes a big difference.

  • Now that I think about it, it does sound almost the same! Haha that was such a cool game. I got the effect from Hollywood Edge Sound Effects Library

  • Hu?

  • nice, everything fits in perfectly! once again, what programs did u use?

  • This was animated and rendered in 3ds Max, composited in After Effects.

  • Good job.

  • good job. I know matrix move was something you wanna put it in. but it look kind of jump from other shot. work on editing. other than that great job keep it up :)
