@annevellamo In fact the idea that China is only nominally communist is a delusional. Nominally is just a value judgment that can't be proven or disproven. All we need is a single instance of private property ownership and we can use the world "nominal" because it has no strict definition.

China is the same old authoritarian freedom despising dictatorship it always was but had to permit a modicum of freedom in order to survive economically. To call this a switch from left to right is idiotic.

Wait - he's talking revolution, and there have never been so many revolutionary struggles going on simultaniously - Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain and so on. There are even more now than there were in 1989-1991, when the iron curtain and Soviet Union fell. And there are almost certainly more revolutions to come in the Middle East and beyond as the oil price and food price inflations get out of control.

He then goes on to typical leftist claptrap about ecological disasters, and we don't have more time blah blah blah. From there he swings into the laughable position that Red China switched its principles from a left wing dictatorship to a right wing and so on. He's just playing with words. Oh and check out the Revolutions of 1848 if you think there was nothing like this before. Thanks for writing.

Using the terms of the Assemblée Nationale of revolutionary France where the concept of left-wing and right-wing began, left-wing China would mean the sequential advancement of communist revolutions until we have one world communist government - the original communist revolutionary position. By a 'right-wing' Chinese administration he is referring to a conservative position of simply maintaining the status quo ante without continuing the revolution.

He said left wing dictatorship evolved to right wing dictatorship and nothing of the kind happened no matter how you define left and right, and I think the idea of right wing and status quo isn't true. Ronald Reagan was right wing and not part of the status quo of either Carter or Nixon-Ford. Joe Stalin trying to maintain Lenin's revolution in the USSR was not a right winger. Those definitions are inaccurate. If that is what Hand meant, he made my point.

@TXC58 In fact, China is only nominally communist. The flag may still be red, but the government is only interested in shrewdly making money in a typically capitalistic manner. Try setting up a trade union in China and we'll see how long you live. With a bit of luck you might get away with a 15 year sentence and some torture. Stalin was interested in himself exclusively, like any psycho. Lenin's revolution was the first thing he sold out, including all its heros, whom he systematically murdered.
