  • I can't helping thinking that all these other tracks on "A Factory Sample" were only included to make Joy Division sound better by comparison. Joy Division didn't need any help in that regard. I certainly wouldn't have been tempted to buy more Factory records as a result of hearing it.

  • On dirait Howard Devoto (!)

  • Its like this song is describing people using the internet today. No communication.face to face with the human race.

  • so this is rainford on vocals and not Colin Sharp??

  • @glitchesandglitter according the book 'who killed martin hannett'... colin also sang on this song. but i'm unsure unless someone can tell me otherwise...

  • Love this. Haven't heard this since I was in sixth form in school [when dinosaurs still trod this earth]... Great to hear it again, brings back happy memories of when I was young [sigh]. 8-)

  • Sadly this this line-up didn't seem happy at the time of the release of that EP. What a loss, but it was probably one of the reasons of the discovering of the styles of Vini Reilly.

  • Yes, the is DC...very early DC when they were a 'band' rather than just Vini and Bruce, etc..

  • Colin Sharp also sang this song, he was the lead vocalist of Durutti Column at the time. Sadly he passed away in September 2009 and he was forgotten and wasn't included in an in Memoriam 2009 or a list of 2009 dead celebrities. RIP Colin

  • Similar in sound to GangOfFour&Wire-bloody good stuff!!

    Thx for posting-much appreciated!!!

  • And even more to some early Magazine material ; the way the guy sings really remind me of the way Howard Devoto sings.

  • I think The Durutti Column went on to better things after this.... interesting to hear though

  • If only Durutti Column had gotten the attention that thier peers got.. But they didn't break up over a dispute with just Wilson persay. They didn't care for Martin Hannett, and with Tony and Alan pushing for their full release to be produced by Hannett, they chose to quit instead. Then onto the Mothmen, Joyce and Bowers eventually joining the remnants of Frantic Elevator to form Simply Red. Dave living on in a Happy Mondays song.

If only they'd popped when the time was right.

  • colin sharp, vocalist here, was quite fond on hannet. even going on to write a biography on him titled "Who Killed Martin Hannet". maybe the others disliked said partys.

  • I have this one packed nicely away also along with Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds 7". Who knew?

  • I'm shocked! I have this record in a box somewhere...I completely forgot about it!

    Thanks!

  • then you have a collectors piece sir. worth its weight in gold.

  • I don't think this is the Durutti Column

  • This is the Durutti Column, read the video details please!
