  • 19 years? damn,,,

  • My grandpa is the one carrying the flag in the opening sequence. :)

  • A true American Hero !!!

  • God Bless Audie Murphy!!

  • This is guy is one hell of a bad ass!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Based on the article from Cracked, this guy was like a real life Steve Rogers (Captain America), except... minus the super soldier serum. 5'5, 110 lbs, yet insanely brave and ultimately effective in battle. 'Balls of steel' and 'fiery heart' don't even begin to properly describe this man.

He serves as an inspiration to us all.

  • Audie Murphy is a great American hero.

  • he shuold've been promoted to major or general . no one else was ever as decorated as Audie Murphy. not even macarther

  • A 19-yo young man.....I woul dLOVE to see the 19-yo teenager's do what this brave man did --- at 19! Geez --

  • this guys chest was covered with madals.

  • @thomas93498 madals?

  • This guy had a set like brass church bells. Much respect......

  • 19 years old, was about 5 foot nothing 100 lbs nothing. 3 tries to join the army. And so modest about his service. God Don't Make Them Any Better!

  • Dude! I always wanted to be a war strategist/commander and men like this make me proud.

This kind of warriors are an inspiration.

  • thumb up if cracked.com sent you here

  • iam readin his book bout this now

  • my version is in color! xD lov this movie

  • When i become a Marine n 5 years when im 18 and i go off to war, im going to be just like Audie Murphy!

  • @Ihavemilk4u itll take u a shit load of time he is the most decorated solider of all time

  • @1mexican1000

I know. Im going to try as hard as i can!

  • Audie Murphy did some amazing things, but that probably was because he was psychotic. He had no regard for his own life and luck was on his side. His 1955 biographical movie (where the footage for this video obviously comes from), was just 10 years after the war; but I suppose he forgot what a German uniform is supposed to look like. The movie was so cheesey; they used the WW1 steel helmets for the Germans and practically no field gear. The famous battle at the end was supposed to be in winter.

  • @M35kriegsmarine You are such a homo. Did you go to all the videos with Audie Murphy in it and paste your retarded, ignorant paragraph on all of the comments? Be more original than that!

  • @beaman1981 To begin with; just because you don't agree with my assessment doesn't mean that you should lower yourself to name calling. I'll bet you wouldn't do that in front of my face. You're probably just some wimp sitting in front of a computer. The women in your family know I'm not a "homo". As for being "original"....it is MY statement! Perhaps you could be more original than calling people "homo".

  • @M35kriegsmarine i know some of his family and he was from from sick, he was a real solider he saved alot of other people lives by what he did, he took a few hits but gave back dath and what they use in the movie was not all up to him they used what they had u obviouly dont know any thing about makeing a film or what goes into one

  • @TheDadrobb Okay; I may not have any experience in making a movie (do you?), but I sure know how to spell better than you do. Furthermore; at no point in my previous statement did I say that what they used in the movie was up to Audie Murphy.

  • @M35kriegsmarine ok wrong person and yes i do, the statement was for the other guy, and if your ever in florida ill give you a cookie on the spelling

  • @TheDadrobb Thank you. Cookies are good. :o)

  • @M35kriegsmarine look at your comments 3 weeks ago, and yes i know what gos into make a film, and its a good thing im no english teacher,

  • @TheDadrobb I did look at my comment from 3 weeks ago. I still know about what goes into a movie...budgets, etc. and I still stand by my statement that Hollywood should have done a more accurate depiction with that particular movie. Mr. Murphy should have insisted upon it.

  • Audie Murphy should be on a postage stamp.

  • @glw23 i agree! :D

  • Audie Murphy is such a bad ass he was the only one that could play himself in a movie about what he did. There are very very few men I consider true examples of what a man should be and he definitely is on that list.

  • Audy was a humble person as proven by his willingness to be in the movie which was mostly a musical comedy in my estimation. I wish someone like Ron Howard would get the rights to his story and do it the way it should have been done in the first place.

  • @travellinman321 I think your analysis is spot on.

    I am awed by him.

  • Hollywood throws millions of dollars into making remakes of movies or tv shows that really do no better than the first film. I really can't think of any film that is in desperate need of a modern adaptation than this one. To Hell and Back, I think with filming technology today, new generations could appreciate Audie Murphy and his courage. And as violent and bloody as it may be, I will take my 10 yearold daughter and explain this was all done for us. Never forget.

  • @mindeloman I agree.

During the filming of To Hell and Back Audie Murphy insisted on diminishing his heroism.

He was a hell of a man.

  • @mindeloman I agree. And this time don't make it a silly farce like the origional. This man deserved better.

  • 1959 went home , Brrrr,

  • love this man get teary just watdhing anything about him what a noble soul

  • Read the book Wild Bill Donovan He fought in ww1 and was the creator of OSS during ww2 which after war became the CIA Look at his awards from ww1 impressive

  • born in 1926 major by 25 In 27 months of combat action, Murphy became the most highly decorated United States soldier of World War II. ] He received the Medal of Honor, the U.S. military's highest award for valor, along with 32 additional U.S. and foreign medals and citations,[2][3][4] including five from France and one from Belgium.

  • Bad ass. This guy actually watered this story down because the true story was so awesome that people would think it was fake.

  • Dad left when he was young. Mom died when he was 15. He tried to enlist to earn money for his younger siblings. Marines wouldn't take him... too small. He passed out in bootcamp. He company cmdr said he was the weakest soldier he'd ever seen. Rcvd every award for valor the US had as well as 3 battlefield promotions. After the war he struggled to earn a living. James Cagney contacted him, invited him to Hollywood. Audie went on to make over 40 films. Died in a plane crash Memorial Day weekend.

  • @danrieke Apparently there are more who know about him than I thought.

    That's very good to know.

  • duty, integrity, honor,perseverance,,,,,,,what a man,,,,,

  • The end of To Hell and Back is my favorite part of the movie. I love hearing the list of honors awarded throughout Lt. Murphys service career. And to think they only listed a fraction of them. Thank God for his life.

  • i'm a marine but i will always honor Lt. Audie Murphy for his duties during ww2 this man should have his own dam holiday!!! and to any of his family that see this i also honor YOU

  • @maverick5211975 I second that!

  • @maverick5211975 Truer words were never spoken

  • @maverick5211975 he does have his own holiday in texas

  • @maverick5211975 great comment, Maverick!! We need a few more men like Murphy today!

  • I've been a huge fan of Audie Murphy for the past 15 years, and I have 29 of his movies so far, including this one. I wrote to his son about 10 years ago, and he sent me a picture of his dad, which I still have. One of the nicest compliments I ever received was when my wife once told me that I resembled Audie Murphy. He was truly a great hero.

  • can I watch this fully online? Where?

  • You should be able to rent a DVD and watch it

  • ...and the german war flag is raised over the Acropolis, and Greece fell.

  • As a german descendant, and knowing of so many brave men on both sides who sacrificed themselfs for their country(politics aside),I honor with great respect an outstanding,

    valiant soldier.

    Rudolf Schneider

    Rio de Janeiro-Brazil

  • I saw the movie in 1958. It's an excellent war movie. Gerardo Acosta

  • my father love this movie.

  • Hey, are you always so funny and respectful? Or are you just angry because America kicked the crap out of Hitler, Goering, Himmler, Goebbles, and all their nasty nazi band? And Audie Murphy was one of the braves who brought the fight right on German soil and took out several nazis on his own? And he didn't die as a suicide coward like many of the nazi leaders did? Your words sound like you ain't accepted that historical fact yet.

  • ColonelHurley, I believe you will make a great American.....GOOD LUCK

  • Thanks, that's all I wish for =)

  • Davehvl was right u kno. :O

  • somone has to post the part where Audi taked the MG42 and blasts the germans HAHA!

  • Thank you for posting this. I'll give you one guess who my hero is. ;)

  • Uhm, let's see...lol =)

  • You guessed it Colonel!! :)

  • Colonel. Thank you for your words of encouragement. This is a tribute to one of the greatest fighting men in history. He is the most decorated man in WW2. I understand Charles Upham got 2 VCs, but the VC is ranked second below the MOH.

  • Odd isn't it?

John Wayne who called Vietnam era conscientious objectors cowards, yet had himself asked for and received a deferment during WWII when so many other entertainers enlisted, is considered to be a great American hero while Audie Murphy, a true hero, is known by so few.

  • I'll second that

  • @montrealflickers James Stewart, on the other hand. was Da Bomb...

  • @virago1776

Wayne,it's been reported ,had a knee injury from playing football at USC.

That is why he was ineligible for the service to his country!

  • @MrA1941 Not correct.

  • @virago1776 Audie Murphy is well known. Wayne did not ask for a deferment. He was too old.

  • @chekist1917 No, he wasn't.

He claimed he needed to be there for his children whom he seldom had any contact with.

He was no kind of hero except fo the image that he and his studio created for him.

  • @virago1776 he tried repeatedly to join he didnt ask for adeferment. they simply woudnt let him. john ford held him back also makeing sure he wasnt accepted yet john wayne wentto see soldiers ofton and sendt them money food smokes etc. still heros like audie murphy glenn ford james stewart henry fonda etc all were holly wood leading men and all fought well

  • @virago1776 As a USMC Viet Nam vet I also say the conscientious objectors AND protesters were cowards...and that's all there is too it !

  • @NamVetBuck By my going to Canada, you came home sooner!

  • @virago1776 If only more people knew this. John Wayne just pretended to be a hero, when in reality he was a coward. Another Hollywood phony.

  • @virago1776 You're right. John Wayne could not carry Murphy's shit.

  • @virago1776 I served in the 3rd Infantry Division at Aschaffenburg, W. Germany from 1985-1987 we had to watch to hell and back when we arrived in Wurzburg to be processed in. ROCK OF THE MARNE. NOUS RESTERONS LA.

  • @virago1776 Actually, that is not true. Wayne tried numerous times to join the army, but was rejected because of his age and he was a family man. The army told him that he could better serve his country by starring in war movies. He did more to lift the morale during the war by his movies that he could have by actually serving. Obviously, you did not check the facts before you posted your statement.

  • @virago1776 Dude,... get your history straight, John Wayne never requested any deferments.. Two were issued at the request of Wayne's studio as a third party,.. they were making a lot of money off him, and since he was 34 with 4 children, back injuries, and a recujrring inner ear problem from doing his own stunts, he was considered a poor candidate for soldier. Wayne himself as documented by two biographers, was bitter about being locked out.. and wrote letters,.. Held in the university of Ind.

  • @virago1776 The letter were pleas for John Ford to get him into the Army at any position, any rank.. He felt shamed by being forced to sit on the sidelines, and even offered to Join Ford's Army film unit just to carry bags.. and clean up.

Does that sound like a daft dodger to you?

For the record, I was too young for Vietnam, by 5 years, I did however enlist after the war when I was old enough, and the opinion in the services was they were cowards,.. and we hated Carter for pardoning them..

  • @virago1776 No,... John Wayne said guys who ran to Canada were cowards.. CO's were subject to legal protections. and not at all controversial. What the Duke was refering to was the cowardly way so many draft age men ran,, RAN to Canada.. if they really believed the nonsense they spouted off on, they should have stayed, and done the jail time...

But they weren't about taking a moral stand, they were about their comfort, when better, far better men suffered.

They should have stayed in Canada.

  • @mark81150 I went to canada, not because I was a coward, far from it, I wanted to show my strong protest to an illegal war. When Carter let me come home, I did and am now a life long delicate and i live in so cal! GO USC!

  • @BoyJewish

As mark said, your protest would've looked better if you did the jail time. Running to Canada and slinking back makes it look less like you protested a war and more like you you just cared about your own comfort.

  • @mark81150 The Duke lived in Newport Harbor and was no war hero....that coward made movies in the war...plus Canada is COLD! We suffered too up there...at least teh women were hot!

  • Respond to this video... I was in the US Air Force in 1980, and the opinion among enlisted about the pardon by Carter of the Canadian runners... and allowing them to slink home... to often better, much better welcomes than combat soldiers did.. My uncle was an E-5, career Army, and when he was coming home from his second tour, was spit at by protesters at the California airport. "baby killer",... "war criminal"....

They should not have come back, unless it was to be shot.

  • @mark81150 i would not spit on a brave soldier who fought in Viet nam...I see them to be heroes....I just didn't want to get shot.

  • @BoyJewish None of us wanted to get shot. Your just a COWARD. In everyway. You ran from the fighting and you ran from your convictions. Your a shammer.

  • @jarheadzader I am a coward...I bet getting shot sucks! The AK-47 packed a punch. I did once get punched out in Canada, so I think I did my part.

  • This is one of my favorite movies, and Audie Murphy is a real good man and a legend.

  • yes, I enjoyed his movies-Saw most of them when i was a kid in the 50's-early 60's. He was really a great war hero-God Bless him

  • @VisionscapeFilms he is dead.
