The blockade and closing of Raffah, took effect as soon as Hamas took power. The cease fire never worked because the cease fire's guidelines were that Israel had to open Raffah, and they never did. Israel offered to reopen the borders as long as they agreed to a ceasefire and to have EU monitors at the border crossing to make sure no weapons were being smuggled. Actually the reason why Japan attacked the US was because it was preemptive measure against the US to neutralize the US pacific fleet from interferring with Japans plans to attack UK south asia colonies. The japanese believed that when they attacked these colonies the US would enter the war over the planned attacks against UK colonies and so decided to preempt this. They had already got around the US oil embargo by invading dutch east indies and taking over the oil wells prior to pearl harbor.

If you look at sderot you would know that during the 1950's the majority of its population was either persian, kurdish, or morocan. It was built on parts of arab land. No arab was forced from that land due to the fact that the land that sderot was built on had no buildings or any type of structure. So there was no ethnically cleansing going on since no one was living there to begin with. An arab village held land rights but no development on the land sdertot settled.

Then you have to look at the fact that no arabs in that village were even living in those few acres sderot built on to begin with. So sderot didn't ethnically cleanse anyone since no one was living there. So prove to me how that arab village was forced to move because of sderot? Sderot is still within 1948 borders.

Most of what people refer to is land that Israel took after it was attacked by surrounding countries. Because they were attacked, Israel was certainly entitled to do this as a protective measure. That their new territory was settled upon was an eventual historical consequence.
Israel has given much of this land back in exchange for 'Peace' but now has neither. Israel has kicked their own people out of these settlements.

Hamas are terrorists. They started it by firing 300 rockets into Israel. Now if they fired into the US, your cluster bomb would be there in seconds. No one is going to help, because Hamas has no equity. Egypt closed its borders to Palestinian refugees already, saying they do not want terrorist coming into Egypt as well. The true enemy of Palestinians is Hamas and their hearts filled with hate for Jews. Once they release their hatred and get rid of Hamas, maybe they will have a chance of peace.

Let's just step away -for a moment- from the whole history of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and let's look at the immediate cause of the current Israeli operation. If Hamas was not so hell bent on destroying Israel and ceased its barrage of rocket fire into Israel, then this operation against them would have never happened.
Apply this same logic to your own country (wherever you are from). If a neighboring country launched missiles into yours, would you really expect your govt to not act?

I am familiar with the Hamas agenda.
The people of Gaza will have to get "real" and seriously examine their decision to place Hamas in power. They will have to get over the fantasy that Israel will some day just disappear or that they will conquer Israel and expel or "cleans" all the Jews from the land. In other words, they will have to come up with a more pragmatic and realistic solution to the underlying problems here. But as long as Hamas is in power, this will not happen.

Just putting that out there because it seems like everyone with an axe to grind against Israel is condemning their actions, which are actually a reaction to Hamas's aggressions in the first place. Hamas played the game and now find themselves on the losing end.
I think it is better for both sides to seek a peaceful political solution to this problem. Fighting is definitely not anyone's interest, especially of the Palestinians in Gaza.

Your defense of Hamas has two huge problems. Fist, as YHChckita points out, Hamas is dedicated to the destruction of Israel. From a negotiation stand point, and from any sensible or pragmatic standpoint, that stance is a non-starter. Why should anyone want to sit down and seriously work out problems when one party is committed and dedicated to the destruction of the other party.

hamas did stop its rocket attacks during the cease fire, it was israel that violated the cease fire by bombing gaza and hamas places. even the UN confirm that. also israel never lifted the blockade which was part of the cease fire agreement.
