Not to take anything away from sweet Iris, but this vocalization's a little less piercing than Iris' though Iris' sound has the plaintiveness appropriate to the last scene of "Northern Exposure." Nice work. Ever the critic, I feel compelled to suggest you might want to watch your volume levels. It sounded a bit distorted.

I LOVED it!! Very respectful of the original song and melody. I just loved it. I am a beginner and did my own version and did my best to give the sng all respect it deserves. There are just some songs that shouldnt be made into another version by someone. Just my opinion.

By the way, John Prine had nothing to do with writing the song: it was only Iris Dement. Of course, John Prine is the one who "discovered" Iris and helped her get started, and then this song was played on the final episode of "Northern Exposure" and then she was set. But mainstream radio still won't play her songs.

Great song! Great vocals! I never thought I'd hear a version of this song that I like better than Iris Dement's. Sorry Iris. The only thing missing is Emmy Lou's harmonies.
This is my favourite Iris Dement song and I must say that you perform it beautifully. Lovely arrangement - I particularly like the little instrumental breaks - and a very fine, melodious voice. First rate.
No disrespect intended to the Lady singing who did great.....but it really demonstrates that something extra that sets Iris Dement apart from anyone else.

Take your point about the titile, Originally when we first posted this we did excactly as you said, and then some people conplained that they thought it was James Taylors Song "Our Town" Which is a whole different song! So ID JP and ELH were added so folks knew which song it was...... guess you can't please everyone.....Lol!

Sarah I listened to the Lily Rosemary mp3 on your web site but at 6.25 it just ends?
Sounds great what's there though. I'd love to see you do it with all three singing a la the Tom Russell - Eliza Gilkyson - Joe Ely version, don't know if you've heard that one. Nice vocal Sarah, as is your great version of Our Town,

Your so sweet for listening, to Lily Rosmary, thank you.... yes i think your right it does finish around the 6 and half minute mark, we only did some of the verses, as we thought people might lose the will to live listening to it!!
I havent heard the one your talking about, i like the idea of 3 of them singing, it would definatley make it more interesting to listen to the full version, i am gonna check it out now!!

Great song! Great vocals! I never thought I'd hear a version of this song that I like better than Iris Dement's. Sorry Iris. The only thing missing is Emmy Lou's harmonies.

This is my favourite Iris Dement song and I must say that you perform it beautifully. Lovely arrangement - I particularly like the little instrumental breaks - and a very fine, melodious voice. First rate.
