"if you look here...RIGHT...and then this thing..RIGHT" The impressive thing about this video is a little kid KNOWING all that info and being into the type of music he's into. \m/ This video is old and I know he's not a kid anymore.
you sir are a dumbass. almost no guitar has a REAL floyd rose. unless you buy the $2000-$3000 strat, ibanez, b.c. rich, ect. a original floyd rose cost about $300 and you ether have the licenced one (piece o' shit) or the floyd rose special (decient) and just cuz it has a locking nut does'nt make it a real F.R. you can get a locking nut for like $8.50. learn your shit.
@TheManAndTheMetal its the same way as on a normal guitar, just a liltal more complex (I recommend you go to a guitar expert for more advice but here is mine.) You will need to make sure all the fine tuners on the bridge are all flat in the midle (I turn one up so it is up as far as it will go and then center the others then that one.) Then you will need to undo the locking nuts and tune like normal repeating a few times till it is perfect (also you will need to make sure it stays flat.)
If you set up vintage style trems properly, you can dive to your hearts content. Pulling up however may cause problems (and they have barely any range upwards).
@guitaristshobi When you pull off the strings the springs will pull the Floyd Bridge back, but when you put the strings back on it will go back to it's place : )
Thanks for these vids man. I'm going to replace my Floyd Rose Special with a Floyd Rose Original soon in my ESP LTD. Now I know that I'll be able to do it.
hey how do you like the scalloped finger board on ur frankenstrat? (nice replica btw )(if u were to glue a red covered single coil unwirred into the neck pickup route it would be perfect)
even tho this is old, it has helped me heaps loads. ive been looking for videos of floyd roses without the pocket at the back. so Thanks a bunch for posting this, When my parts come in (for the EVH guitar) ill use this video as refrence !
It could be a number of things but start with the most obvious first. Are your locking nuts locked? Are you using the proper number of springs in the correct figuration? Does the string tension equal the spring tension (that's the most common problem)?
@MasterCamz you got to mess the springs on the inside. After you whammy see if it went flat or sharp. If it went flat tighten the springs slightly. If it goes sharp lossen the springs slightly. Keep whamming and checking the tuning till it stays in tune after hard whammy use.
i have a question. is it necessary to cut the extra space where the string locks in place at the end of the bridge? some ppl do it and some don't. or would it depend on the guitar?
@SynysterXMindfreak really depends on you man. If you are the type of person that has a lot of time and use the tremelo bar, then, that's a YES in you case. Most people don't do it because they fear they could mess up their guitars. It's not necessary in most cases.
Oh ya, you got the explorer type headstock there. You must like rosewood? Ebony would be cool. I had one of the floyd rose setups in black, back in the early to mid 80s when i was a big VH fan. I got tired of the indulgent hair band sound of the 80s. I guess you would have had to be there to know what i mean. But i still listen to Led Zepp , Rush and Pink Floyd ect Oh ya i do like grunge. Grunge was the expression of tiredness from the 80s hair bands. And what the 80s stood for. Look at me!!
can tis be installed on a guitar with a non string thru bridge, similar to a les paul, im thinkin about gettng a project guitar and installing a floyd rose
@jetlag51 probably not, unless you want to cut through your guitar. If you want a trem on a guitar with a stop tailpiece, you could get a bigsby for it which is pretty good but not quite for the same purpose of a floyd rose. You can't really get those really low notes like EVH does
@robertbeto93 probably not, but the edge III is a high quality tremolo so unless you're having a lot of problems with it you needn't worry about switching it out.
@SHSRogue not true, as long as its not that zero point shit (the tremolo they have that uses ball bearings rather then a knife edge) you can drop a floyd in and itll fit, when their contract with floyd rose bridges ran out ibanez made it so that you can pop in a real floyd with no mods at all, odly tho, you cant swap in an edge on a guitar that was routed for a floyd (ive had 6 ibbys that i ripped the edge off and popped a floyd on with no mods, and ive done it to about 30 of my friends ibbys
yeah dude i think there about the same size if there not youll have to route out paarts of the guitar, go to your local guitar store and ask, yeah i they should my mate put a lic. floyd in his ibanez and it fit so it should, im not the dud in the video
@xxxSchwartzyxxx Hi, I am about to install a Floyd into a strat where I already had the pickup routed for humbucker, check to see if your tele has a similar rout under the tele bridge (i wouldn't think so but maybe). Now there is no law that says that you must have a humbucker at the bridge with a Floyd but it is usual as this is the preference of the player that uses a Floyd. What I am trying to say in a really long way is just buy an axe with a Floyd as the tele is not really built for it!
Thanks for the information. You've told me more than any employee at Guitar Center! could. Got an Ibanez w/wammy, but don't like retuning all the time. Time to get a Floyed Rose installed!
Really good video helped me know a lot more bout my floyd rose tem system n u actually showed how everything works thnx again I'm gona get started btw sweet guitar I like how u don't have any pickups in ur Kramer sick ass shit!
When I was at GIBSON it always made my ass pucker to take a 3.5 hpwr router to a $3000 guitar with the finish on it. I never slipped nor did I ever see anyone do it, but we all knew it was an imminent possibility and it was out ass if it happened. Once you get past the routing though, the installation is a piece o cake!
The GIBSON Axcess is a good idea for the simple reason that I hated to see people hacking up their Pauls and putting Floyds in them. I always said they should offer it as a factory option because we did it for artists all the time...the Brad Gillis from Night Ranger, Neil Schon from Journey, they had pretty much all of their road Les Pauls outfitted with 'em at the factory. What makes this even cooler is the sculpted out heel, making a seemless slide up to the higher redgister.
legacykev, a roller nut is a bad move in my experience. Leave your original nut and put graphite dust in the string slots or use a pencil lead if you need to (Same thing). Reducing friction that way is more effective than a roller nut because it's relying on a mechanical action to take place by relying on the action of the individual rollers. If any debris or gunk gets in there they don't roll so good.
Yeah GphoenixD, it has 2 screws and attaches right to the peghead face or headstock as some call it. It's easy Bro. I'm telling ya, start doing some of your own repairs and installs! You can do it.
What kind of floyde rose is that, cause i want one on my stratocaster but i thought most require you to do a cutaway into the body (in addition to the hole for the standard trem)
Floyd Rose units were originally designed to retrofit Fender Strat style trem routes with very little routing. The little bit you need to expand the route on the face of a Strat you could do with a dremel tool. A 3rd grader can do it man, give it a try! Just take your time and use the template...you can do it Bro.
they already made one. the Les Paul Axcess. dont bother trying to put one in. just buy the Axcess. if you want to put the floyd into your LP, you will need to basically cut out the back panel of the guitar, and cut a hole through it so that the trem will fit. then you have to screw holes into the back panel so the springs will keep the trem level. you also have to buy a custom cut neck for the locking nut. do not waste the money.
I worked for GIBSON for 11 years and we put em on Pauls all the time. It's not a big deal as long as you have the right tools for the job...but that's true for most anything I guess! LOL!
i know that ibanez started to use edge bridges after their floyd lisence expired, but are edge bridges good cause im thinking about ibanez and im kinda unsure
Edge (great, but mostly on older models), Edge pro and lo-pro Edge are good. But you should stay away from Edge III (on cheap models), because a lot of guys say that it's bad. I had no problems with it and it stayed in tune for ages, but it depends on every bridge itself. Some can be good and some can not.
If you are looking at Ibanez S series - they have ZR tremolo system - it is the greatest tremolo I have ever played. It's so much better then the original floyd rose...
i personally think of it as same and same.they r always staying n tune.
example: i have a schecter synyster custom w/ floyd rose. when i dealt w/ string changing, body parraleling, intonations (which i hated lol) but it was all ok labor time.
then the zr is ok also, i just had to understand it myself, and for what i can say, is that they're both evenly matched.
im not saying zrs bad theyr Very GOOD. its just im more accomanied w/ origs. more often.
how about is it possible for floyd rose trem install to strat type body with locking nut to? will it break or out tune? i want to install it to my strat.. any advice tnx...
You are using the licensed floyd rose right? Not the original? What is your opinion on the licensed version? I don't have enough money right now to spend on an original so I just want an opinion on the licensed one. If I get negative comments about it, then I'll will probably save up for the original :P
...lickitup02, you should take it back and demand your money back. That should not happen if it is set up properly. Dont take any shit from the salesman fella!! be strong!!
go to floydrose-dot-com and download the schematics of the floydrose system you gonna install. when you buy the floyd rose please 1- dont buy an non original floyd rose trademark one they screw up very quick 2- see if the measurements accord with your guitar (the widht of the of the tremolo). just for you to know the floyd roses this guy is using are not fully functional because of the guitar.they need a hole in the back of the tremolo. if you have any question ill be glad of helping you out :)
Most licensed Floyd Rose systems besides the Schaller and Edge Pro bridges usually suck massive cock due to poor parts and poor installation. My OLP guitar had one and I ended up blocking it and made it a fixed bridge because it was so terrible.
hey i was wondering i have an sx standard elecric guitra and i wanted to know would it be possible to install a floyd rose?. Excpet it dosnt hav the post to sit on woulda i need to get them put on and would guitar shops be able to install these posts and put new pickups in thanx.
so i have an Ibanez SA model with an SAT pro bridge. i want to replace it with a schaller floyd rose or an Ibanez Edge trem. Do i HAVE to have a huge hole past the bridge for the trem to sink into, and would it be a good idea to make one? also, how would i take out and replace the inlayed nut with the locking nut? should i just have someone do everything for me?
no, you would have to fit the pivet posts which is risky and if you like this instrument then dnt try it. buy a super v strat one it just drops in without mods an you can do yourself risk free its reasonably cheap aswell
nope, well you cold but it would be so risky as the gitar would probably play awful and not stay in tune at all. buy a stetsbar for lespauls, it requires no mods it justs pops on, its not locking but it holds tuning well, much better than standard strat stle ones, you shouldnt, the reason you cant is cos the guitars not flat on the top of body unlike a strat
is it like rediculously hard to instal a FR system in a guitar with a regular floating bridge tremelo system? Like i bought an ibanez grg170dx and it has a trem system that goes out of tune pretty fast. How hard and expensive is it to switch systems?
Yes these vids were a big help to me. Seeing you actually take the bridge out and stuff took some of the intimidation factor out of it for me. Too bad you don't go into adjusting the action on the posts and stuff. I think I can figure it out now tho
did you re wire that guitar because that doesnt look original to the guitar, if u did it sounds great

You are using the licensed floyd rose right? Not the original? What is your opinion on the licensed version? I don't have enough money right now to spend on an original so I just want an opinion on the licensed one. If I get negative comments about it, then I'll will probably save up for the original :P
Thanks alot!
asnguitarfrk93 3 years ago
i would personnely save for the original

...lickitup02, you should take it back and demand your money back. That should not happen if it is set up properly. Dont take any shit from the salesman fella!! be strong!!

how do you install the posts
gitariff 3 years ago
go to floydrose-dot-com and download the schematics of the floydrose system you gonna install. when you buy the floyd rose please 1- dont buy an non original floyd rose trademark one they screw up very quick 2- see if the measurements accord with your guitar (the widht of the of the tremolo). just for you to know the floyd roses this guy is using are not fully functional because of the guitar.they need a hole in the back of the tremolo. if you have any question ill be glad of helping you out :)

can a original floyd rose be istalled on a squier strat without out modification? i know it sounds like an tdiot question but i am wondering
milfordboy88 3 years ago
midfrodboy88,
Nah, you'll need to do some cutting if you wanna fit an OFR in your squier

Most licensed Floyd Rose systems besides the Schaller and Edge Pro bridges usually suck massive cock due to poor parts and poor installation. My OLP guitar had one and I ended up blocking it and made it a fixed bridge because it was so terrible.

edge trems are another brill make by ibanez.

so i have an Ibanez SA model with an SAT pro bridge. i want to replace it with a schaller floyd rose or an Ibanez Edge trem. Do i HAVE to have a huge hole past the bridge for the trem to sink into, and would it be a good idea to make one? also, how would i take out and replace the inlayed nut with the locking nut? should i just have someone do everything for me?
ryushiRj38 3 years ago
Thanks, your video really helped me. I'm gonna make a custom guitar with the Floyd Rose system.
ClayKlot1 3 years ago
if you had a strat with a strat tremolo,, would you have to make the whole where the bridge goes bigger to put in the floyd?
ThatsHellacool 3 years ago
no, you would have to fit the pivet posts which is risky and if you like this instrument then dnt try it. buy a super v strat one it just drops in without mods an you can do yourself risk free its reasonably cheap aswell

next week im gettin a dean razorback without the Floyd rose how hard will it be to install one on it if possible
awall93 3 years ago
easier than on most guitars without systems already. if i were you tho id get the routing and pivet posts done by a pro

Can i put a floyd rose on a gibson les paul studio? Please help
JustLiamM 3 years ago
customly yeah.
KayC2SLO 3 years ago
nope, well you cold but it would be so risky as the gitar would probably play awful and not stay in tune at all. buy a stetsbar for lespauls, it requires no mods it justs pops on, its not locking but it holds tuning well, much better than standard strat stle ones, you shouldnt, the reason you cant is cos the guitars not flat on the top of body unlike a strat

can i put a rose on a custom g400
ThisIsCastro 3 years ago
you could via heavy customization but its not reccommended if you have doubts about doing it

is it like rediculously hard to instal a FR system in a guitar with a regular floating bridge tremelo system? Like i bought an ibanez grg170dx and it has a trem system that goes out of tune pretty fast. How hard and expensive is it to switch systems?
livoniaeagle83 3 years ago
Did he put the grip on the lower horn by himself?
If not, what guitar model is that?
Nice video by the way. My FR was messed up but I was able to fix it with this video series (especially the 2nd one).
Asgard222 3 years ago
some guitars come like that. theres some $1400 ibanez that come with it

Please do a video of how to adjust the height of the tremolo and also the right height for the pickups.

EVH has it flush mounted...
Peraphina 3 years ago
no offence but it does look gay without the single coils sure is more like eddies but now u got two holes in there.....checkout how i did mine!!!!!

Massivecarcrash 3 years ago
thats paint not duck tape, and its eddie van halens custom paint job dumbass
contraBOT1337 3 years ago
dude, why did you take out the two single coils? They give the guitar a better versatility.

i notice how you bridge hits the bottom of the guitar if you pull the bar to far back, does that not bother you/cause damage to the guitar?
imtylerson 3 years ago
Yes these vids were a big help to me. Seeing you actually take the bridge out and stuff took some of the intimidation factor out of it for me. Too bad you don't go into adjusting the action on the posts and stuff. I think I can figure it out now tho
Nixlplix 3 years ago
