  • Dedicated to a sweet little girl from Texas, who came into my life one night and forever changed me. Thank you doll!

  • Priceless<3

  • i still miss duane but greg rox on fabulous.

  • Awesome song. Always loved this one.. I thought I recognised Gregg Allman from a movie. He plays Gaines in the movie RUSH. Great actor as well as song artist....

  • Best song ever!!!!

  • Brilliant guitar playing by Dickey Betts!

  • Some of their songs are mainstream rock n roll & blues crap, but then again there are masterpieces like Melissa, Blue Sky etc.

  • what can i say they say it all..

  • I named my now 31 year old daughter because of Greg's song. She has been missing since 11/25/11 from her Oak Harbor Washington home. If anyone finds her please help her find her way home to her 3 wonderful children & her family.

  • @Raven101able sorry to hear that my friend. i hope she turns up. my fiance was named after this song. i think of her every time i hear this song.

  • @Raven101able I am so sorry

  • Such a beautiful melodic song. one of my all time favorites!

  • Why don't we make music like this anymore.

  • AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWesome!!!

  • Beautiful song!

  • 4:39 EARGASMIC!

  • Love them

  • America.

  • @PlymouthVT I know what you mean. So much has changed but this is so American.

  • Anyone have the mid 1990's version of this song performed live in a radio studio. Greg looked sunburned and tired. The performance was the best I'd ever seen or heard. Please post if you have it.

  • 3 Acoustics and words with meaning,3 beautiful sisters like you,and me.I'll never stop loving you My Melissa.I can admit the mistakes I have made.I hope you can find yourself.

  • Every time this song comes across the radio, it just stops me cold and I have to listen to the whole thing. It's so beautiful. Hauntingly so. I love the "Almond Brothers," as my mom used to call them. Well, she tried, huh? ;-)

  • love this! so beautiful!

  • Middle dude pickin' those fill in's......goosebumps, man, goosebumps!

  • @jeddyhi That middle dude is none other than Dicky Betts.Wrote many of the original Allman Bros songs. Fantastic guitarist, considered one of the best. To think the Allman Bros had him AND Duane Allman.

There is something raw and deep about their music that you don't see in the over-produced music of today. Sigh, maybe its gone forever...

  • I heard that this is the first song Greg Allman ever wrote. Wow.

  • Beautiful song.

  • beautiful...

  • All GA fans need to check out the new album,Low country blues... AWESOME.

  • God, I could listen to this the whole day and not get bored....

  • Been listenin to this since I was a tween! As I grow older the memories from an old friend that parted to soon always come back. Always see the face, the smell, hear the voice. The tone of the tune brings a tear,But I always smile for the blessing & the memory it keeps alive for me. Thanks "Melissa" ! Rick

  • It's legend time!

  • I lived this , I aAm from Macon Ga. The town cryed when Dwayne Dyed ,

  • the perfect combination of sounds and words!!!!!! you can't beat this. This is REAL music.

  • Gotta join you guys. If there has been a better recording of a live presentation, I don't remember it. God bless the Allman Brothers.

  • 4:36 starts my favorite riff of all time!!! Richard Betts is the man!!!

  • For my sweetest, dearest friend... 'Sweet Melissa'

  • This song should be done with just the lead and bass guitars, get rid of the two rhythm idiots playing chords, strumming away like they were Gene Autry, it just noiseys up an otherwise good tune, and does nothing to enhance the song. And if you're going to play a 12 string, then PLAY IT LIKE A 12 string, jeeze!

Lets keep Phil Spector and his "wall of noise" in prison where he belongs!

  • @radzewicz Like you know better than these guy's !

  • Vincentvuoto You are so right. This is an antidote to American Karaoke.

  • I love the Brothers and watching this makes me realize how much of todays music sucks

  • For my Friend Melissa... I miss you Hon

  • So grateful that you posted this. My daughter's middle name is Melissa because of this song!

  • The reason I picked up a guitar.

  • damn im 15 and i absolutly love 70-early 80s music, what the hell is up with the stuf today... no one sings now-a-days its just a comupter making noise while some "hoodie" grunts and swears... i hope this music cycles back arround!!!!!

  • There will never be anything to come close to this trio or song .....ever

  • woow! mi cancionn !! jsjs..

  • You don't need a twelve string, you just need friends

  • He must be catholic...knowing so many loving nuns.

  • @musicbykevinahern you must write scripts for SNL

  • I wanna buy a 12 string just to play this song...

  • this song is fucking amazing

  • Imagine How Much Better Gregg Would Have Been Without The Booze And Heroin ...

  • people don't understand what real music is this is real and it is a shame people don't recreate music like this anymore

  • Simply awesome so much better than the album. Its music in its purest form!

  • An amazing acoustic performance...Gregg's soulfoul offering...Dickie's and Warren's licks just dance together...couldn't be better.

  • My parents named me Melissa and I'm 13 I love this song with all my heart but it makes me cry

  • sorry my bad on the posting, first time

  • My absolute all time FAVORITE Ballard...EVA!!! Feel good everytime I hear it!

Saw these guys at a free festival in Milwaukee...one of the greatest nights of my life! dick just got out of Rehab after they tracked him down in the swamp, head a mess and chiggers bites from head to toe! good story

  • My absolute all time FAVORITE Ballard...EVA!!! Feel good everytime I hear it!

  • This song is so familar with fairport's conventions who knows where the time goes its beautiful!

  • Wow, teen years, .. this song is part of the landscape of my insane life. i saw them LIVE, in fact I hitch hiked there with my ever lovin' sister, may she and duane unite up above and sing to all of us in the dream time. Blessings friends.. Be kind, be kind.....

  • Omg my instrumental teacher every time me makes me learn a song its terrible classical shit like this

  • song gets to me every time so pure so soothing

  • Hmm, I learned this one on 12 string also, ironically.

  • What word can accurately describe this..

  • Tears to my eyes,,,

  • Gave me goosebumps. Perfect! Just perfect!

  • Nothing is perfect..But this is as close as your going to see!

  • Named my daughter Melissa because of this song. And she's 30!

  • @Irdaboss still listen the vinyl, with the crackling of course ..cant help it after 39 years,awesome..and best wishes for Melissa..one of the nicest name

  • omg!! this song is too much..... back home i'll always run to sweet Melisa. Love you.

love the song and the guitar is amazing!!!

  • Passion and Emotion!! Roll on Greg with this beautiful song and tribute to your bro and unforgettable Melissa

  • can u bend them strings make em scream

  • I think Dickey played better in the other unplugged version I've seen on youtube, I think it's MTV unplugged. But I like the sound from the 12 string, and Dickey & Warren had the harmonizing lead down better in this version. In the other one, Haynes looks he just decides to jump in the middle of the outro solo unrehearsed

  • i love this song cause it's named after the person i care about, and the song is amazing and NICE SOLO

  • C'mon guys. Bury the hatchet and bring Dickie back for a few shows!

  • Wow!!!!

  • These guys are why we named our daughter Melissa. Incredible.

  • ABB forever...

  • You guys will rock forever!

  • incredible...can't say much more

  • Make me cry, ABB. Go ahead. You always do.

  • Oh ad by the way Melissa you know why I love this song

  • I love this song... One one my cousins sit in on drums with Greg and Duane before they made it big when they played in Decatur, Al. His name is Roger Cottingham.

  • I LOVE how many time WOW is used :)))))))

  • wow....fabulous. thank you!

  • i agree i've seen the allman bros since 1981. this is truly a great video!!!

  • IF YOU DON,T LIKE THIS THERE IS SOMETHING X/X/X/XX..,./ZXZXZ

  • they played blue sky that day too. Anyone have a link to a vid of it?

  • Wow! Its hard to keep from tearing up from the amazing playing cause guitar greats Dickey Betts, and Warren Haynes realize that this performance is a once in a lifetime occurance at 4:47 and 4:51 and they play their hearts and souls out in perfect harmony.

  • There is really nothing in this world that is perfect..But this comes as close as u can get!

  • I agree. WOW

  • I agree. WOW

  • If you don't like this, you just don't like music..simple brilliance!

  • WOW, just f'n WOW!!!!!!!

  • the duo at 4:30 sends chills.

  • I had the pleasure of seeing the Allman Brothers in concert at Riverfront stadium. I think it was in the mid 1970s. They played with the Nitty-Gritty Dirt band, Johnny Winter, and I can't remember who else at the moment. It was an all-day concert. Perfect weather and a great show. Please post if you were there and remember who else played. . . . .

  • This is their best tune.

  • sounds corney as hell, but im a conducter for the railroad, nothing like being on a train with this song going thru ur ear pieces and looking at the view from the front window....its something you cant explain

  • @txrr100 Not corney at all. It's nice you have a job that you enjoy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  • EVERY time I listen to this I get goosebumps when Dickie and Warren start playing together. Maybe the best acoustic performance on YouTube. Thanks for posting!

  • one of most beautiful songs ever written!!!

  • How can 3 people dislike this?

  • I have to learn this one! Truly one of the greatest songs by one of the greatest bands EVER!

  • Utterly amazing!!! Truly never gets old.

  • The single greatest live acoustic performance I have ever seen - I saw this live on the Dennis Miller show many years ago and was just overwhelmed when I found it on YouTube so that I could enjoy it once more. The Allman Brothers were, quite simply, the best band of that generation (and in my opinion, the best ever). There were others louder, more theatrical, more explosive, but NONE more talented. Just listen and you will hear what I mean - simple brilliance.

  • @sevets2000 hav u watched clapton unplugged

  • @thedoc56

I haven't, but I will - thanks for the recommendation.

  • @sevets2000 Yeah, these guys are just amazing. That this is how they play on a simple television talk show (and not even a big one) that most musicians would dial-in is, alone, a testament to their artistry.

  • @sevets2000 And they still rock.

  • @sevets2000 Cause there Southern...Rebels

  • @sevets2000 I agree with you. Live performances that transcend the original recorded version are few and far between; we were lucky to be blessed with this one.

  • I was named after this song. No song could ever be more special to me.

  • Thanks. Sincerly, Melissa.

  • Warren Haynes is amazing and Derek Trucks is awesome, but it is a DAMN CRIME that Dickey Betts is no longer part of the allman brothers band.

  • @bughead3 I agree......I won't take anything away from Derek Truck's abilities or talent, because that young man has'em both to spare.....but Dickey and Warren had a really good feel for each other's playing, as did he and Duane. Not to mention the fact that Dickey is a great songwriter and vocalist....can't go back I reckon.

  • @bughead3 FUCKING AAAAAA. I'LL NEVER FORGIVE HYPOCRITE GREG AND DOUCHE BAG BUTCH FOR KICKING DICKEY OUT. NEVER

  • Check out Hainsey, rockin the stache. Pre Gov't, Saweeet.

  • ThanX Guys, been there done that, God Bless!

  • seen that band so many times, cant get enough

  • duane allman once said dont come to one of our concerts and expect some big show or explosions, just sit back and enjoy the music. such a great song

  • This is their best tune!!

  • @BigLaxFan94 .U DNT LISTEN TO THEM THAT OFTEN THEN

  • a great song from a great band of the 70's.....

  • All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!

  • I remember this great performance clear as day, it was the penultimate episode of Dennis Miller's 1992 syndicated talk show. Fine version of this song...

  • Thank you for posting this... it means a lot

  • Going to see the Allmans at D A R next fri the 12th.

    Hope Greg lives that long.

    Not looking so good lately,

  • Watch carefully at about 4:50 dickie and warren playin runs 5 notes apart.....classic allman trick...adds so much sounthern flavor, makes me wanna go out and eat b - beque!!

  • pure gorgeous

  • Wow... im 15 and i know no one in this generation will ever perform with this kind of soul or authenticity

  • Comment removed

  • Dickey is a genius!

  • Melissa, unplugged...ohh the heavens are rockin with this one...

  • and this would be my contribution Wayne and Chris......

  • i'm sweet melissa, but my boyfriend of 6 yrs still does not want to marry me. i give him all my love, but i guess that just isn't enough. he will never find another woman loves him like me. he is breaking my heart

  • @mamber70 that sounds a little harsh. hope everything is better now.

  • @mamber70 I'm her too. But don't worry about that boyfriend of yours. This song is a song of innocence not romance! so no matter what, this song should always be yours!!!

    (and mine too!) Melissa

  • Dicky Betts plays REAL GOOD.

  • greg is all southern...

  • As much of shredder as Duane was, his spirit was with them that night. Best performance of Melissa ever!!!

  • Has anyone ever asked Gregg Allman directly how much he misses his brother, Duane, and how he thinks the band will progress /has progressed wthout Duane?

  • it never gets old

  • Outlaws...
